What are your thoughts on the series as a whole?
I've only seen the original, which I liked, the second which I also liked and the one set on the cruise ship, which I hated.

I have a big soft spot for this franchise and I think they're generally fun movies despite the repetitiveness. My favourites are 3, 4 and 6.

I’ve seen 1, 2, part of 5, 6, and (for some reason) 9. Of those the only one I liked even a little was 6. So, yeah, not a fan, though I like the premise.

I didn't hate it like most people did. I thought the cruise ship setting was okay though I would have preferred if it was set more in Manhattan like it promised.

I think some of them are alright. Though when people talk about they much they hate slasher films, I think they're mostly refering to the F13th series, maybe to a lesser extent Halloween.

Teenagers about to have sex. Jason suddenly appears and impales them. Rinse, repeat. Thumbs down.

I have a soft spot for them, too; but no single one is particularly a great movie.

I’ve only seen I, II, and III. I can take them or leave them. Like people are saying, they’re fun but repetitive.

They should have stopped at six.

The main issue is that they aren't scary, they aren't particularly suspenseful, the characters are usually boring (3 and 4 have the best characters imo),they aren't even that funny and Jason Vorhees isn't an interesting villain. Some of them are mildly entertaining, but most of them are just dull and violent for the sake of being violent. It often comes across like the killing is suppose to be funny. There is no actual drama in these movies, they give me very little reason to be invested in the outcome.

I don't hate the genre, but it is one of the most repetitive of all movie genres imo. There are definitely good slasher movies and those movies are good because the rely on some sense of a feeling of realism (even A Nightmare on Elm Street) where you are give characters to sympathize with. Halloween relies entirely on suspense and atmosphere as well as a very likable protagonist. The good slasher movies are the ones that are visceral and or clever and not silly fluff. Friday the 13th franchise is silly fluff where it feels the only purpose the violence serves is for fun. The violence in good slasher movies is there to be scary and disturbing. Very few slasher movies pull that criteria off, because most in the '80s were just made to capitalize off the success of Halloween and then later off the success of Scream. They are cheap to produce, so it is easy to make money off of them without needing to put in much effort. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Black Christmas Halloween A Nightmare on Elm Street Scream Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon Those are the slasher movies that hit all the marks for me. There are a handful of others that are decent though. The majority are just lazy murder porn. I am separating American slasher movies from Giallo movies, those tend to be more inventive.

I’m a fan of the slasher sub genre so even the worst Friday the 13th films are usually entertaining to me.

The first film -- which I'd rate 5/10, and is the best of the franchise -- came out the year I graduated from high school.
The series is crap.

It's a fun series that I indulge in at least once a year, though most of the time only 1-8 (The Paramount Years). Here's my ranking, though I'd suggest just watching the first four in order, and if you're into it keep going.
1. Friday the 13th Pt IV: The Final Chapter 2. Friday the 13th Pt. VI: Jason Lives 3. Friday the 13th Pt. II 4. Friday the 13th 5. Friday the 13th Pt. III 6. Friday the 13th Pt. VII: New Blood 7. Jason X 8. Friday the 13th '09 9. Friday the 13th Pt. V: New Beginning 10. Friday the 13th Pt. VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan 11. Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday
I do not include Freddy Vs Jason in my rankings because I consider it part of the Nightmare On Elm Street series.
