They’ll all be heading here come December. Do they know about this board? I've only read a couple of pages of that 23 page thread I hope in this thread we can discuss both the TCM board shutting down and the broader issues facing the TCM channel.

TCM declining is part of the larger trend in cord cutting that is endangering all cable channels. The younger generations are consuming media in mobile fashion and want their programs anywhere and anytime.
I used to lament that few watched silent films anymore, then I began to realize that classic movies are going the way of silent film.
Now I am of the opinion that all film will be quickly abandoned and forgotten- that are not just a few years old. There is so much content coming out that it overwhelms the old stuff. Plus, more are turning to non-fictional fun such as Tik Tok, You Tube influencers, video games, etc. I teach teens and hardly any of them have watched E.T., Titanic, or even Iron Man.
"The times they are a changin'" (and my kids don't know where that line comes from either!)

I hope people posted this link at the site... It's too bad when message boards die out for horrible interface, user-unfriendly, conversation-unfriendly reddit and fakebook.
I just hope they keep their Underground series. I wish they'd stop playing the same movies. I like some older independent movies, and they never show enough of them, but when they do, they're always great. Especially with everything restored, no streaming issues (even 2-3 seconds can screw up a great moment/scene)

There is one group I visit, for pics. There is a classic film group on Reddit I occasionally visit (when I remember it exists) though the Reddit format is not really conducive to long, worthwhile conversations extended over time.

The cabler’s primetime host Ben Mankiewicz, who has been in that job for two decades, tells EW that they’re safe: “When [Zaslav] says that they value what we do and that we’re going to be continuing what we do in the foreseeable future, I believe him. And he’s ready. He is connected in this town, and he’s prepared to use that muscle to make sure this town turns out to support us.
Zaslav [has] talked about the value of curation. He gets what we do. He’s not a guy who thinks, ‘Let’s just show the movies.’ He gets what TCM does and why it’s important…There’s such a logical connection between this defining studio in the history of Hollywood and the classic channel to tell that story. This is a promising point in TCM’s development and not a cause for alarm.”

Sadly, TCM will go the way of the dinosaur.

I hope he's correct as well.

I just went over there to save the 20+ pages of my months-long email chat w/the late, lamented poster Clore.
Apparently all emails have been erased :-(
Too bad.
Lost forever are his insights into classic films, his well-informed love of Universal Horror, and his encyclopedic memories of NYC TV in the '50s and '60s. I mean "encyclopedic" literally -- Clore had the ability to remember the exact day he was watching a certain TV program. Nov 17, 1962? "Five Came Back on Million Dollar Movie". Interestingly, he claimed this was more of a curse than a blessing (I have trouble remembering the decade I saw some movies).
Oh well.
Thanks for the memories...
