The infected are barely in this show. This is a problem.
Joel finally acted like Joel, but it's a little too late imo. Joel is a very hardened survivor of this world. It's a huge part of who he is, but we have seen very little of it.
David was appropriately creepy. The actor did a good job of portraying that character, but like everything else is just so......rushed. This story moves too fast, which leads to a lack of emotional impact at times. David goes from wanting to save Ellie to wanting to kill her in like 15 minutes.

Thought it was strange how the guys who were willing to kill Ellie on sight, and were tasked with hunting down an injured Joel and killing him, seemed surprised he was so ruthless with them. Joel stabs that guy and the other dude is like, "What the hell, man!" Again, these are the guys who were about to shoot an unconscious Ellie. I'm not familiar with the games, so I don't know how much they changed the story. I was very much looking forward to Joel killing a whole bunch of people, but was disappointed Ellie turned the tables on David, burned down the mess hall and literally nobody else in town was anywhere to be found. With one episode left, I'm basically watching this show for the sake of watching it at this point. I don't dislike it, but it isn't really doing anything interesting.

I saw someone point that out last night. Yeah, the entire town just peaced out. His journey to get to and save her from David was a lot harder in the game. The little bit we saw him in action is how he is, which was great to see, but only took 8 episodes to give me something that actually felt like Joel. Overall, I find Pedro's Joel quite dull.
Same. It's ok at best, but it doesn't have me on the edge of my seat. Weird to see people on social media talk about how "amazing" this show is. It's not.

And of course Druckman made the cannibals Christian (which they weren't in the game). Very on-brand for him. Love some of his games, but God I hate that guy.

Obviously this thread is about the show, but I hope no one minds me ranting about the second game…
I’m really ready for it to be done. The Seattle story went nowhere and now I’ve got to play as both characters in California for some reason? It’s just a mess of ideas.
I was also thinking how easy it would’ve been to bring back both Ellie and Joel: Ellie finds out what happened, runs off to find more fireflies. Joel pursues. Eventually she forgives him but still decides to sacrifice herself. Joel accepts her decision this time. And all sorts of stuff involving the “WLFs” or “Scars” can take place in between. Predictable maybe, but an obvious story would’ve been better than this slog.

Honestly as someone who has played both games, I feel like they're better off as a series then they are as a game. The second game is really starting to drag. I’m getting tired of the Abby sections. ^^^^^ Anti Abby Pandering!

But god damn the gameplay got old real quick.

Not a bad episode but with one episode left i can't but feel like this should have been more than 9 episodes.

Finished the second game. Ultimately it just made me feel crappy. Was that the point? Revenge is bad. Violence is bad. Let’s make the player feel bad to make that point? Gonna finish a few trophies and then sell it on eBay.

I’ve got a handful of reasons why this show is vastly overrated, but I’m not going to get into it.
To me, this show signifies everything wrong with mainstream TV/movies now: arrogant, misled, and nihilistic to a fault.

Finished the second game. Ultimately it just made me feel crappy. Was that the point? Revenge is bad. Violence is bad. Let’s make the player feel bad to make that point? Gonna finish a few trophies and then sell it on eBay. It's a strange game that makes you feel strange when you finish. Definitely not accomplished. It's horror, so it's ok to feel depressed when playing or watching something in the genre. That isn't it. This game just leaves you incredibly unsatisfied.
I genuinely enjoy the gameplay. It's excellent. I think the only complaint I had about it is Ellie ain't John Wick. Abby is. She's built like a brickhouse and a trained soldier. It's more believable she can mow through people than Ellie. It's a great looking game too. Hell, it's still very well-acted and presented. As good as the first. Better in moments. You really feel the anger of Abby and later Ellie for what Abby did.
But this isn't a story you want to see. I bought this game because of Joel (and Ellie). I wanted to see more of him. Their relationship. How it progressed. And play as him too. The man is a badass. A fucking terminator. But nada. Not a second of doing anything with him (riding a horse doesn't count). You can't give me half a game with Joel? You can make almost the same exact story with playing a half a game as him, Abby kills him, then you pick up as Ellie. Fuck playing as Abby. You don't let me play as Joel and make me play as his killer?
I think that or your suggestion is a much better story.
A few things that annoyed the shit out of me.
Ellie. She's very unlikable. She hates Joel for....saving her life? No one is that upset about not dying, especially when the Fireflies didn't give her a choice. Ellie was knocked out. They were just going to keep her unconscious, kill her, and not even let him say goodbye. She's mad at him for that?! You sorta forgive her because she wants to avenge his death. They were on bad terms, but see she cared. Ok, fine. Then she let's Abby walk? It's so incredibly unsatisfying.

I agree with all of that. The story is disappointing and incredibly thin. I’ll also add that I didn’t even really buy Ellie’s revenge angle. I liked the first third of the game, but then she becomes a psycho killer which was just weird, especially considering she also disliked Joel’s decision. It’s also incredibly gratuitous. Characters are killed left and right for nothing more than shock value.

It felt too extreme in the mid to later parts of the game. I know she’s killed people but she is now all of a sudden a rogue rampaging killer consumed with vengeance. Didn’t fit the character in my opinion and kind of ruined everything I liked about her previously. I could have seen this story work for Joel, but not for Ellie.

I didn't mind that she wanted to, and would try to, but her being a killing machine was too much. She have been more stealth. She's not Bryan Mills, she's a 5'5 rail thin 19 year old girl.

Meh. A giant nothing burger. Not terrible, but just there. It's very boring and anticlimactic; both the finale and show, I mean. Very average. I don't get all the "amazing" talk or awards chatter. That's incomprehensible to me.
And I just can't get past Bellas Ramsey's face. It's distracting. She simply doesn't look like Ellie and reminds me of Steve Morrison, a radio host in Philly:

Even though I didn't care for the show, I have always loved the debate over Joel's actions. Its something that has been going on since fans finished the game.
The Fireflies are scumbags. They expected this dude, who walked across the fucking country, to just let them kill a kid? After all that? They didn't even ask her if they could kill her, they were just gonna do it, and expected him to roll over and accept it? And Marlene and her sheep have the balls to call FEDRA fascists? After making that decision for her?! Fuuuuuuuuuuck them.

I haven't watched the episode yet but I an curious to see how the people who never played the games feel about Joel's actions.
To this day I see fans of the game debate that ending.
