Looks like we got ourselves a Friday the 13th for this October. First time since the 2017 challenge. I guess it’s easy to watch/or throw on something from the Friday the 13th franchise, but is there any other films set on Friday the 13th if you want to change it up? Or possibly horror films which had release dates on Friday the 13th. Eg Evil Dead 2, Halloween 5, Happy Death Day, Cabin in the Woods, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Funhouse… etc. I'd recommend The Burning (1981) personally. It's a Friday the 13th clone, but I am of the view that it's actually a better film than most of the actual Friday the 13th films. Much creepier antagonist, beautiful cinematography and the characters are more fun to observe. I agree. I'm still not a fan, but I prefer it to most of the Friday the 13th movies.

I'm so glad I watched The Swarm. One of the funniest fucking movies I've ever seen. The ghost bee hallucinations, the way they keep referring to the bees as "Africans", screen legend Olivia Havilland's embarrassing final performance. It's amazing. "Bees! Bees! Millions of bees!" I understand why you would find it funny, but I just thought it was really dumb. I don't recall actually laughing out loud at anything about it, but I maybe I am just not remembering. It has been a while since I watched it. You seem to have found it ironically entertaining, whereas I was just bored (and embarrassed for the actors) for the most part.

Got some lousy ones so far. Th worst being Paranormal Sex Tape. I though it would be sexy, scary fun but no. Its a huge load of nothing. Paranormal Sex Tape? Sounds like a parody. Im not sure if it was mean to be because there is no humor in it at all. Its mostly a woman walking around doing nothing then lying on a bed naked.

Rec 2 (Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, 2009)
Not quite as good as the first one, but a solid sequel. Really wish I would have checked out this series sooner as it’s some of the most effective use of found footage in any horror movies I’ve ever seen. In particular the scenes with dark vision are incredible. 7/10
The Chill Factor (Christopher Webster, 1993)
Contains what might be the only demon versus human snowmobile race in cinema history. I wish I could say the movie was amazing the entire time, but it is a SLOW burn with a group of uninteresting characters for a large portion of it which hurts it quite a bit. As a side note, if you look up the movie on IMDb it currently lists it as being from 1989 instead of 1993. Apparently it was filmed then, but every website and info I can find says it wasn’t distributed until 1993 after sitting in a can for years. Weird. 5/10

Had my first FTV with The Toxic Avenger since that new one is coming and I figured may as well watch the whole franchise finally. I think this may also be my first experience with a Troma release.
It was definitely something else. Very ridiculous and over-the-top, hardly ever takes itself seriously and I kinda liked it. I am pretty sure it was all intentional. Curious how crazy the sequels get.

Little Evil…quite entertaining. The comedy style reminded me a lot of Tucker and Dale va Evil. It’s essentially a dark comedic parody of The Omen. It’s got laughs, gore, a pale little boy who was born of a cultish ritual and has a sock puppet that sounds an awful lot like Satan. Pretty much has everything. I liked the stepdad club, especially the lesbian, she was great. Also Evangeline Lilly as the mom was hot. Netflix movie.

The Wasp Woman (1959) A cosmetics executive injects herself with too much enzymes from wasp jelly in order to make herself look younger; she eventually turns into a cheesy-looking "wasp monster" at random times and goes on a killing spree.
Laughably bad Roger Corman cheapie with wooden acting and awful effects. Sorry, Roger.
2/10

Trilogy of Terror - 7/10 A Taste of Evil - 6.5/10 These are 2 1970s made-for-TV movies with average stories but a central performance that elevates those stories greatly. Trilogy of Terror is 3 stories. The first is about a teacher being sexually pursued relentlessly by a student, the second is a woman with a crazy twin sister and the the third is about a women being attacked by a doll in her apartment. What makes this memorable is that Karen Black plays all the female characters and displays an immense amount of range. A Taste of Evil is about a young women who comes home after being in an institution for years after being raped. She begins to see visions and this causes her mother to suspect maybe she isn't fully well yet. A mystery follows. As with Trilogy of Terror, A Taste of Evil has a terrific central performance, this time from the legendary Barbara Stanwyck. Both movies are only 1 hr 13 min. and they are mostly effective B movies. That is what the stories present themselves as and they aren't pretending to be anything more. The main performances just transcend the material.

Talk to Me (Danny and Michael Philippou, 2022)
Likely the big horror movie of the year for a lot of people, this one is genuinely creepy at times and rather devastating from a plot standpoint (something I’ve noticed A24 films consistently try to do). I didn’t ever find it outright scary like some I’ve heard from, but it certainly has a sense of unease and the themes of addiction run strong in it and are used creatively. Overall I really enjoyed it.8/10
I'm probably going to watch Prey later tonight as my husband picked it up in 4K. I won't count it if it's not really a horror, but I'm looking forward to checking it out and at least I still hit one horror movie today even if I don't count it.

I personally find Troma very hit or miss (I usually like the movies they distribute better than the ones they actually make) but I really should check out the other Toxie movies at some point.

I finished Part II and it wasn't really good. That was too far into the bonkers zone for my liking and felt like it was too long. Will still watch the other two tomorrow though.

I think I’ve only seen the first film but I believe there was a cartoon that I watched as a kid. I know I had action figures for the toxic avenger before I had ever seen the first film. Toxic Crusaders it was called.

I went to an arts festival in a local park the other day and the local community theater is performing Toxic Avenger: The Musical! this month. I guess it's stranger to have made a Saturday morning cartoon, but that's pretty weird too. Apparently it ran for a while off-Broadway around the same time that Evil Dead The Musical was a minor success off-broadway.

Not gonna lie, it does sound like something interesting to witness and I'm not even a broadway guy.
