And if you listened to the critics all the time you would probably end up seeing artistic movies where nothing happens but have an hidden story line that no one understands with subtle undertones that if you miss you are obviously not educated enough for

Popular does not equal critically acclaimed. Just compare Twilight and Winter's Bone. Twilight is horrible but everyone knows what it is. Thus - popular. Winter's Bone was critically acclaimed, yet almost no one has watched it. Thus - not popular.

It's the laziest script writing I've ever seen. The most ham fisted, hammering in square pegs in round holes story beats possible. It's a chore to watch because it's constantly stupid. They have scenes so bad they have names. Lois constantly showing up just wherever they need her for no reason. Director after director quitting on them. It is embarrassing.

That clearly has not been a benefit to it when BVS came up over $300 million short of Civil War. You can't make the case that it's made DC popular when that kind of poor box office result happens. A great BVS film could have and perhaps should have exceeded Civil War, so you can make a reasonable estimate that the crap quality lost them $400 million. There is no way to call that good. |

Rises was pretty lazy and missed a ton of opportunities.
Regardless, I would argue that Civil War is better than any of those. It is just as well executed, but beyond that it does three major things that TDK had no chance at doing. It successfully weaves in two origins for new major characters. It sets new ground for how to handle a large cast flawlessly where everybody is perfectly utilized, and it expertly capitalizes on the momentum and threads of the entire series while simultaneously laying new ground for everything to come.
It is crossroads film of the MCU. And I don't even think it is a debate that it is the best comic book film there has ever been. I don't see any film that even has a case to make.

Sorry but the The Dark Knight rises is way beyond Civil War, I could watch CW a few time maybe but TDR I could watch over and over again - just a perfect cinematic hero movie - just when you thought it was all over then it just ramps up the action - you leave the movie almost exhausted

But Civil War is the better film for all of the extras it brings to the table. Even if I give you that TDK is the better film if all we do is evaluate each by itself, Civil War still capitalizes on numerous threads that the MCU had been building towards, establishes multiple new characters admirably, weaves together two major plots seamlessly, perfects the use of a massive cast, and leaves a crazy interesting future for the future films to build on. That is on top of Civil War being an excellently executed film in it's own right, and TDK does none of those things. For that reason, Civil War far exceeds the accomplishments of TDK, even though that is a fantastic film. Civil War just goes the extra 10 miles. |

Not trying to trigger anyone, just saying my piece.
I enjoy both the MCU and the DCEU.
After 45+ years, I was totally thrilled to see -- with MAN OF STEEL -- the character and his mythos finally given the "straight" science fiction/action-adventure treatment... with no tongue-in-cheek camp.
I never, ever again want to see a character like "Otis" (from the Christopher Reeve films) in a Superman movie.
And if the Avengers start hanging out with a talking, wise-cracking raccoon, then the MCU could well devolve into nothing more than FLASH GORDON (1980) -- only with better FX.
