A Cold Night's Death Alien Black Christmas Burnt Offerings Carrie Dawn of the Dead Dracula (Frank Langella version) Halloween Invasion of the Body Snatchers Jaws Nosferatu the Vampyre Phantasm Picnic at Hanging Rock Salem's lot Sisters The Exorcist (greatest horror movie of all-time IMO) The Fury (not really horror, but a good De Palma film) The Haunting of Julia (underrated) The House That Dripped Blood The Night Stalker The Night Strangler The Omen The Other The Texas Chain Saw Massacre The Wicker Man Vampire Circus
Also, throughout the 70's the BBC had a series of short TV movies called A Ghost Story For Christmas, which were mostly adaptions of M. R. James stories, and one by Charles Dickens. My three favorite films from that series are:
A Warning to the Curious (James) Lost Hearts (James) The Signalman (Dickens)

Most of my favorites have been mentioned already, such as The Exorcist, Alice Sweet Alice, The Brood, Dawn of the Dead, Phantasm, and The Sentinel. So I'll mention Trilogy of Terror (1975), which is of course popular because of this guy:

meandmybigmouth listed Roman Polanski's The Tenant, which I completely forgot about. That's one of my favorite films of the 70's regardless of genre, it's definitely worth a watch for those who have not seen it.

Alot my favourites have already been mentioned, so I'll keep it short and fresh.
Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny & Girly - excellent british horror black comedy The Devils - All you need to know... Ken Russell Rituals - Very effective survival horror Homebodies - Spot on dark horror comedy that will make you look differently at the elderly God Told Me To - Larry Cohen goes completely bizzaro Frightmare - Nasty, diverting Pete Walker you won't forget The Red Queen Kills Seven Times - Now that's a killer costume Spasmo - Not your typical giallo Tower of Terror - Primitive slasher that delivers. Horror Hospital - Oh, this one is demented and crazy What the Peeper Saw - Who knew "Oliver" was perverted And Soon the Darkness - And you thought the countryside was tranquil. Fascination - Jean Rollin provides art, blood and nudity Fear of the Ghost House: Bloodsucking Doll - Japan goes traditional. The Road Builder - love conquers all?

The Omen isn't so perfect a film that it gets automatic placement. Despite its notoriety, a lot of people dislike it. What are your preferred movies of the decade?

Don't bother Flynn, naterdawg is just like Lep was on the old imd board, self righteous and trying to rile people up who disagree with him. It actually started with something very dumb (something OT) and ever since he is trying to discredit me and others. I guess another one who thinks he is some kind of master of these boards because he is so dominantly present and because he has posted so much. But check his posting history and you will see his negativity. He just did the same on my 60s horror topic. He criticizes but hardly contributes himself and not much positive either. I almost feel like calling the usual imdb residence trolls and show how much of a lecturer dawg is. Or he might actually be one of those trolls trying to fit in but showing his true colors now. But I guess it's unavoidable for large boards with many users to attract this kind of people. Fortunately we know what the solution is with such people.

Yeah, I saw his comments on the 1960s thread. In neither thread did he provide a list himself, but he was quick to criticize you for not including his favorites. What's funny is that I partially agree with him. I would include more Hammer films, as those are more my style. But that's me and not you. You tend to prefer a more real-life, grounded, psychologically based horror film than I do, and that's cool. You and I both have come to realize that we have different tastes in films. What I find interesting is that our differences have actually formed the basis of a friendship rather than causing a rift. We respect each other's point of view, even if we don't share it. Of course, except for maybe a few playful quips over Creature from the Black Lagoon, I don't think I ever criticized you for having a different taste in films. Nor you I.
