That's the Superstar. I"m a big fan of the masked superstar especially in that period. I love Georgia championship wrestling also. What area did you grow up in? I didn't remember Mr Wrestling ever wearing a suit and the mask is different too. I thought maybe it was after I stopped watching. Gordon Solie was always a class act though, right? I grew up in the metro Atlanta area and still live in Atlanta. How about yourself?
Nostalgia aside, my favorite promotion of all time was ECW. The pre sell out version of course.

After I posted, I googled Masked Superstar and daily motion had a match with him unmasking Mr W II that I saw back in the day. Totally forgot it until your post roused my curiosity. So many wonderful Saturday and Sunday early evenings watching GCW with my dad. Thanks for the great reminder.

Oh wow Atlanta. I was able to get to watch the georgia territory on tbs but I would've given anything to be able to go to the Omni. That was just killing me seeing them constantly plug the Omni and I couldn't go. I grew up and still live in Long island, NY. I was able to go to the wwf at madison square garden, and the nassau coliseum, but dammit I wanted to go to the Omni. Gordon solie certainly was a class act. I love his announcing. Also in the florida territory too.
I also was an ECW fan. I was lucky enough to go to a show in 1994 and then a bunch of times in the 1995-1996 or '97 period in philly and NY. I'm glad I brought back memories to somebody. Feel free to stop on by this thread periodically. Once a week I'll be posting some of my favorite old school videos that I'd watched during the week.

He sure was. Gordon solie was the ultimate announcer. That is great that you grew up watching Florida wrestling. I'm jealous. I love that territory. I watch as much CWF as I can on dvd and youtube.

Being I'm watching the Memphis set from 1979 I had to post this classic brawl that was revolutionary for it's time in 1979 and still holds up today. Robert Fuller had been the booker and brought in his own crew to Memphis and pushed himself pretty hard. For whatever the reason, it just wasn't working in Memphis like it worked in the Southeastern territory so the crowds were down. Jerry Jarret just fired Fuller and his entire crew and decided to just rebuild the territory from scratch. He ended up pushing a couple of mid card guys at the time. Wayne Ferris (who later became the Honky Tonk man) and Larry Latham (who later became moondog spot) were a hot tag team at the time. Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee were ofcourse the backbone of the company so the feud was with them. They did this huge brawl at one of their weekly shows in Tupelo to spark interest and get more people to come to the shows. Here is that legendary brawl in Tupelo, Mississipi from June 15th, 1979

Been watching a lot of 80s JCP, WWF and World Class stuff on WWE network lately. Probably my favourite time in wrestling.

Been watching a lot of 80s JCP, WWF and World Class stuff on WWE network lately. Probably my favourite time in wrestling. Now you're speaking my language. If you have any thoughts or any insight as to what years you're watching of each territory and what is happening I'd love to hear it. That's what the thread is here for. All us classic wrestling fans.

Just watched this last night. Here it is an Ed Boulder (Brutus Beefcake) beatdown, Ron Bass style from 1979! Gotta love it.
Also just watched this classic match. Tommy Rich who lost a loser leave town match to Ted Dibiase came back under the mask as Mr. R. Well this time Dibiase was in for a little surprise

Piper regains the Mid-atlantic title jayhn, what are your thoughts on Rick Martel. think he was truly underutilized in WWF even though he made a name for himself in 'Strike Force' and then as 'The Model'. unbelievable the fire power WWF had at the time. correct me if i'm wrong. weren't Hogan, Flair, Von Erich, Hennig, Martel all in there at the same time? classic champs from different feds - just seems like such a missed opportunity for some classic wars. i know a lot of fans don't like the belt being a 'hot potato' so to speak and switching hands every couple of months - but just look at what they had on their roster a the time - if there ever was a time to 'hot potato' a belt and build up a round robin of classic feuds - this was it.

I like Martel. He had good matches as AWA champ and was a good tag team wrestler also. With Tony Garea earlier in his career. They were a good team. Strike Force I think was a good team for what they were. But that heel turn was a real surprise. I never thought Martel would turn. But I think they pushed him fairly well though. He became more of a gimmick but the guy could really go. I feel like maybe earlier in his career they may have pushed him more as a face singles guy. You are correct about all those guys being in there at the same time I think. But as always, the problem with the WWF was always that they wanted to pretend like nobody was ever born until the day they walked into the wwf for the first time. So acknowledging any kind of history was out of the question for them. The WWF even ignored their own history of guys that had been there before. I'm with you on their missed opportunities and I think there were a lot of missed opportunities in that period.
