Ted Dibiase and Mr. Olympia taking home the gold! jayhn, you seem like a 'freebird' fan. what are your thoughts on terry 'bam bam' gordy. i think he was underutilized. sure he was the muscle of the trio. but can you imagine if he knocked off Von Erich or Flair for a title and Michael PS Hayes became a little jealous - the storylines and wars that would ensue...... they could have made him a 'transitional champ' so to speak - he drops it back to Von Erich or Flair or even P.S. - think they gave him some main events in UWF and Japan - but IMO - throw the guy the strap even if you're going to take it off him to push somebody else. i know a lot of people have a problem with a 'transitional champ' - to me it's all about how you build the character and storyline. gordy winning gold and having to deal with P.S. seems like gold to me

I am a big fan of Terry Gordy as well as the Freebirds. THat's an interesting question you pose. Gordy did feud with Hayes once in 1981 and again in 1988 and they were really epic feuds that came off really well. Just the fact that they were partners and really super over, in the territories they did it in they may have felt it wasn't necessary to have it revolve around a title. Because it really did draw. THe first one did. But by '88 the texas territory wasn't gonna draw no matter what. But I think you're right about transitional champions. I really don't have a problem with it. If it's the NWA world title that's one thing. But a regional title from a major territory I don't see a problem with it. But the 2 times they did the feud, Gordy was the heel and Hayes was the face. It worked great like that. I just think even though Hayes was the talker and really cocky, he was the one that was able to be a sympathetic face where as Gordy maybe wouldn't be able to pull that off as well as Hayes. But I still think he was good enough to pull it off. But man that Gordy could go. He was a believable badass and could cut a really good promo in my opinion. But you are 100% right about it being all about building character. That's what it's all about and that's why things like this worked so well. I appreciate you posing questions like this that really make me think and see things from another point of view. It's always cool to have somebody else besides myself that's interested in these things. This is the stuff I love.

A very entertaining but ridiculous angle. Who the hell walks around with a pair of scissors in their pocket LOL

lol ok true. But I think the fact that he just happened to have a pair of scissors in his pocket kind of took away a little something from this particular attack.

One thing about those japanese matches is that they team up some pretty odd pairs on those.
