Edit: And I'll add to that...I expect we'll get an Ice Dragon/White Walker Dragon before it's finished too.

Hopefully Dany comes to her senses (at least temporarily-- I fully expect her full arc to lead to a Mad King type of meltdown that gets her killed) and agrees to work with Jon now that she knows she can't win with brute force alone. I've never been a fan of her character, but damn it the realm needs her dragons to have any shot at winning the war against the dead.

If she eventually really becomes the Mad Queen in season 8 that would be quite a story arc from the shy and moral person she was back in season 1. They've been laying bread crumbs all along. You really see it on the show, perhaps more so than the books. That look on her face whenever she sicks her dragons on someone, whether they deserve it or not. She revels in that power too much, it's only going to get worse now that she's destroying armies in the field. Her refusal to help Jon is understandable, but her attitude is even more disconcerting. She isn't acting like the benevolent leader her armies began following years ago. Daenerys has always been about blanket judgement and murderous coercion. It started when she sentenced the witch to burn and told the rest of her khalasar their enemies would die screaming. When she took Meereen, she had masters crucified without investigation or trial and called it justice. There is no excuse for the scum that kept liking her all along. |

Well, they didn't spend all that money making the Eastwatch animation for the opening credits just for 1-2 episodes, that's for sure. |

It was great. My only complaint is that a couple of the scenes felt a teeny bit rushed and we didn't get a good tyrion/Bronn reunion. So many great moments though. Dany actually going mad queen and murdering people, gilly confirming jon's parentage, and the forming of the fellowship seven samurai of westeros. The dialogue was fantastic, and the music was superb. The scene with Jon and drogon was great. Dany saying bye to Jon was very well acted and her face expression was gold (not to mention the music playing might be the best GOT has had). I'm so hyped for next weeks showdown. Third best episode this season behind 'The Queen's Justice' and 'The Spoils of War'

One of the best set-up episodes of the series. It's not as good as Kissed by Fire or Mockingbird, which are the two of best set-up episodes of the show I can think of right now and 10/10's (even though Mockingbird had that big ending), but it was still great. The last two episodes could be amazing. I don't know if it will top the Battle of the Bastards/The Winds of Winter combo, but we'll see. At least the episodes are more than long enough (71 & 81 minutes). I gave this one a 9/10.

It was OK.
The dialogue was superb as usual.
The first scene almost ruins the episode. About as worse as the Highgarden.
To me it would have been better to have Jaime captured, told the information, and released to tell Cersei.
They have also completely left the notion that it takes time to travel places or are simply skipping through months at a time and we can assume that Jon has been away for several months.
I also don't quite get why Jon isn't allowed to send a raven updating the North to things like he got a buttload of dragonglass.

What did you think of Game of Thrones' 5th episode of the season? I'm curious as to what Littlefinger's play is now. Whatever it is, I hope it blows up in his face, we don't have time for this anymore. Also curious as to how Sam will feel about his father and brother being roasted. He didn't have a great relationship with them to say the least, but I can't imagine he'll be enamored with Dany at this point. It was awesome to see the Westerosi Avengers going north of the wall, but frightening at the same time. They can't all come back, can they? It's GOT so anyone can die at any time; but I feel like too many of those particular characters still have plot armor. It wouldn't make sense for Jon, the Hound, or Jorah to be killed here. I also think Tormund's crush on Brienne is enough to keep him around. I could see Lord Beric or Thoros being killed. It would be lame but very GRRM to reintroduce Gendry only to kill him off in the next episode. I feel like it'll be a disappointment no matter what happens, as I enjoy all of these characters but it would seem incredibly unrealistic if they all survive this side quest. Two episodes left! Less than ten left in the entire saga! |

Why isn't he constantly updating the North on his current situation? I mean besides the fact that it alleviates the tension the writers are trying to build at Winterfell? Also agree on the opening scene, it was pretty lame. I'll believe in dragons and walking dead before I believe Bronn can pull Jaime miles downstream and yank him out of the water in all that armor. Other than that I enjoyed the episode a great deal. I forgot to mention the reveal that Jon is legitimate. Or at least, the reveal to the audience if not the characters. It almost seems irrelevant at this point. |

Great episode that set up the final two. That is all this was. People are getting so used to crazy crap every episode, that they forget that most of Game of Thrones to this point has been build ups and dialogue. The final two episodes are much longer and are probably nuts. When I go back to watch the season, I have a feeling this episode will be a breath of fresh air.

A good progression of storyline episode. I kind of rolled my eyes that Bronn and Jaime got away but it's not that big a deal. They were either gonna get away or get captured and as interesting as a capture scene would've been, I'm glad they aren't burnt alive. The Winterfell stuff I think is a setup for Littlefingers death. I think Arya knows Littlefinger was watching and they'll make a ploy like she and Sansa are at odds. Otherwise I got real annoyed with Arya in the episode.
I expect we'll lose Thoros and Beric beyond the Wall. Maybe the willing guy too...can't remember his name at the moment. It'd be a waste if we lost anyone else tho.

The sheer irony of watching the Knights bend the knee after seeing the Tarlys burned is that they're doing it out of fear, which is the exact opposite of Tyrion's voice over speech during the Highgarden battle just two (was it just two?) episodes ago. It's a not-so-subtle shift in Dany's whole reason for fighting for the iron throne. |
