Within the rules of the game, Ashwin was allowed to run Buttler out. The issue I have is that he deliberately waited until Buttler was out of his ground before removing the bails. If you have to wait, then the batsman clearly hasn't left his crease too early. I have no issues with the argument that Buttler should be watching Ashwin bowl the ball, but it is a million miles away from sportsmanship and fair play to do what Ashwin did, without a warning either - which has been the protocol for mankadding for years.
I still believe that the easiest way of fixing this is to penalise the batting team five runs if they deliberately and willfully leave their crease early while backing up, and do away with the mankad. A bowler is expected to bowl, not balk. Baseball has done away with balking years ago because of this very reason. Base runners and Batters are expecting a pitcher to pitch. Not fake a pitch and do something else. Mankadding is exactly the same. It truly is easy to police. Bowlers end umpires can easily detect a batsman going early. And if they cant, the third umpire can even easier.....
I don't think ICC will eat up their ego and change the lame existing rules. That's too much to ask of them.

I agree AJ. Unless it’s is so patently obvious that it requires no thinking and even a casual fan can see it’s a good idea, expect nothing from the ICC. If mankadding becomes a issue/problem in the WC, expect the ICC to make up some half arsed rule about it that makes more problems than it solves. The incessant and unnecessary “powerplays” are a perfect example. Even the use of the word powerplay is stupid.

Australia has inflicted more ignominy and shame on Pakistan after previously doing the same to India.
If there is a right time to peak then Australia has found that time. Although some may say English conditions may be vastly different, I still say these victories are boosting their confidence. And more hope lies in the fact that Warner is absolutely rocking in IPL.

Yep, Oz right into form at the right time.

I tell you what, don’t Pakistan know how to lose a game. 60 off 48 at 2/218 with two batsmen set on 100 and 80. And they lose by 6, after hitting 6 off the second last ball. I wouldn’t get too excited by Warner’s form in the IPL - it’s great he’s making runs but openers should make runs in the IPL when batting conditions are at their absolute best.

I agree with you that it is very easy to bat well in IPL for an opener. That said there is a considerable chance that many of the wickets in England could also make life easy for the batsmen.

The wickets will be flat and hard, with the occasional green one. It’s the overhead conditions that will favour the quicks with the new ball.

IPL: Ben Stokes hit for six off last ball as Super Kings beat Royals in controversial match
Indian Premier League, Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals 151-7 (20.0 overs): Stokes 28 Chennai Super Kings 155-6 (20.0 overs): Dhoni 58, Rayudu 57 Chennai Super Kings won by four wickets Scorecard
England's Ben Stokes was hit for six off the last ball as Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by four wickets in the Indian Premier League.
Chasing 152, the Super Kings needed 18 off the final over in Jaipur.
But Ravindra Jadeja hit the first ball for six and Mitchell Santner drove the final delivery back over Stokes' head.
Super Kings captain MS Dhoni walked on to the field earlier in the over to argue with the umpires after a Stokes 'no-ball' was overturned.
Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fee for breaking the IPL code of conduct.
Chennai were struggling at 24-4 in reply to Rajasthan's 151-7.
Ambati Rayudu made 57 off 47 balls and India wicketkeeper Dhoni struck 58 off 43 before he was bowled by Stokes off the third ball of the last over.
The next delivery was a full toss to Santner that looked above waist height.
Although umpire Ulhas Gandhe signalled a no-ball, the decision was overruled by square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford, and an incensed Dhoni returned to the pitch to remonstrate.
All-rounder Stokes also conceded a front-foot no-ball before bowling a wide with the Super Kings needing four from the last ball.
His next delivery was in the slot and New Zealand all-rounder Santner drilled it over long-on to secure a dramatic victory - Dhoni's 100th IPL win as captain.
Stokes was hit for four consecutive sixes in the final over of England's World Twenty20 final defeat by West Indies in 2016.
He took a stunning catch above his head at backward point to remove Kedar Jadhav off Jofra Archer and top-scored with 28 off 26 balls in the Royals' 151-7.
How a dramatic final over unfolded
19.1: Jadeja drives Stokes back over his head for six, with both players falling to the ground
19.2: Stokes over-steps and Jadeja hits the ball through cover for a single
19.2: Dhoni pulls the free hit for two
19.3: Stokes bowls Dhoni with a superb yorker
19.4: Santner picks up two, pulling a high full toss that is initially signalled a no-ball but overturned
19.5: Santner clips towards long-on for two
20.0: Stokes bowls a wide outside off stump
20.0: Santner smashes a full delivery high over long-on to win the match

Yes, he qualifies in time! He looks very sharp. I don't know much about his batting abilities but he can help England's bowling. He is quick!
* Dhoni should have been banned * That funniest over I ever saw.
* The funniest part was both the bowler and batsman falling down * Stokes should not have been bowling 20th over. Archer should have bowled that over.

Yeah, No. 5 is crazy! Shouldn't be legal imo. I initially thought it was a clip from some silent movie. Charlie Chaplin might have had a bowling action like that.
