We should know for sure by the end of the day exactly what's going on with James Faulkner (I don't particularly care but am intrigued by the bizarre nature of the story). He appeared to have come out of the closet yesterday, but today has walked straight back in.

He appeared to have come out of the closet yesterday, but today has walked straight back in. This highlights the calibre of journalism currently doing the rounds in Australia. A couple of google searches and a max of 2 phone calls and this “story” would be dead in the water. In other news, somehow, someway, Sri Lanka has decided to leave one of their best, most inventive and most dangerous batsmen at home. How Dickwella doesn’t get a jersey in even the squad (remembering he is a keeper too) is beyond me.

I actually made a comment very similar to yours on facebook re: Faulkner. What really pissed me off is SMH running a headline "James Faulkner comes out as gay" in the same story that they revealed both CA and Faulkner had explained the comments were misinterpreted.

The SMH is very very quickly sinking down the standards pole. Especially it’s sports department. I used to be an avid reader of their NRL coverage, but for a few years it was the Tales of Mundine and Sonny Bill, with the odd article from Roy Masters about how great Wests were, how mergers were bad and how the early 80’s had far superior technical football. Now it’s bullshit from Webster, worse shit from Gould and total shit from Wiedler. The cricket coverage is rubbish too, but to be fair, has been since Peter Roebuck and Greg Baum dialled it up to 1000 during the Monkeygate affair. I stopped reading it a long, long time ago.

Did his exclusion pave way for Joff Archer's entry? Anyway, Joff is a massive talent.

And is Archer going to be selected for WC?
Man, England has to improve their bowling. I am going to support them this time to win the WC because I don't see India winning it anyway. So best for home side to win.

hoskotafe3, weststigersbobAny last minute increase in confidence regarding Australia's prospects? I think after England they might have the second best claim. Although I was surprised to see Pakistan score 350+ against England (although England still won).

Australia - I’m more confident now because of the IPL form and return of Smith and Warner. I’m still not overly convinced Khawaja and Marsh can both be in the same side. I originally thought they may finish 5th. I’m now sure that the lowest they will finish.
England - I wouldn’t be too worried about the bowling. They have both Mark Wood and Tom Curran to come back. I thought they would’ve picked Jimmy, but they’ve left him out along with Archer. Stokes and Ali give them such depth it’s scary.
Pakistan - Fakhar and Babar are the team. They are the only players they have on the top rung. The rest are handy. Paired with their famous volatility, they could sneak into 4th or finish 9th.

England are the best team in it. Their biggest threat is a batting collapse in a knockout game.
Australia have found form at the right time it would seem, but I'm not completely confident. One or two early losses and that form and confidence will fade pretty quickly. Should make it to the semis. Beyond that, anyone's guess.

England as deserved heavy favourites. It their WC to lose. That being said, they’d like to avoid Australia in the final I reckon.

That has my eye opened. I thought it was a 10 team WC. Where do these two come from?

You're correct. Maybe they're listed in the off chance that one or more of the ten entrants aren't able to play e.g. because of a ban coming into force before the tourney starts?

That would explain why their odds are so much longer than Afghanistan. If Ireland were actually in the tournament you would expect their odds to be around 100/1 too.

Hang on. I reckon there should be some sort of investigation into this. How can a betting agency take bets in good faith on Ireland and Zimbabwe ? They literally have ZERO CHANCE of winning the WC.
Anyways, NZ and RSA at 10 isn’t a bad bet. India and Australia are a few dollars short IMHO. If England is 5/2, then India should be at shortest 9/2, and Australia 6. I think the bookies are pinching it a bit.
