Deicide in 1995. I went for a friend's sake. He was a big fan of the band. Heaven knows why. Bland music, horrible atmosphere, moronic crowd... the opening bands were shit, too.

Lou Reed - mid-80s - I actually fell asleep during the show. That's 100% true. I was constantly nodding off, fighting it, until I just completely fell asleep.

Oasis at Bolton Wanderers ground, with Happy Mondays and The Seahorses, or some generic name like that. All uniformly dreadful, and I'd have thought the happy Mondays would've had a bit of shambolic life about them even though I'm not a fan.

Because they were dull beyond belief...
Rage Against The Machine, Brixton Academy 1993 Midnight Oil, Glastonbury 1993
Because they were dull and I was surrounded by a load of trustafarians pontificating loudly thgroughout the show how totally amaaaazing they were...
Chumbawamba, Glastonbury 1994
Because they were a shambolic drunk mess...
Every Blur show I saw up to The Rollercoaster tour in 1992

I've seen their 2007 show on YouTube and they sound fantastic there, all things considered. Wish I'd been able to go. I have a friend who saw them in the 90s, can't recall if he ever told me what he thought.

I'm not sure if this was worst, but Vic Chesnutt at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, some time in the late 90s. He'd just released The Salesman and Bernadette and must have played every track from it. It's a decidedly average album at best. He only played two tracks from the rest of his catalog, and I think they were Sad Peter Pan and Soft Picasso, which wouldn't crack my top 50 of his songs. Massively disappointing.

Natalie Merchant at Shepherd's Bush Empire. I was in the standing section, which was a mistake. Not even half way through the show, I really, really wished I was sitting down. She also flubbed the intro to a couple of tracks and they had to start over. Then as a sort of encore she played piano, doing some 10,000 Maniacs songs, and again flubbing them, or just playing half the song before going onto the next one.

1996 - The Black Crowes / Gov't Mule It was such a disappointment because I like the Crowes. But Chris Robinson was so fucked up that he kept stumbling around and slurring the lyrics. My friends and I were trying to guess when he was gonna fall down and pass out. I've since read that this is not uncommon for him. At least Gov't Mule was good.

Years ago I went to a Jethro Tull concert, and didn't like it at all. Reason being is that it was mostly unplugged, and therefore it was soooooo boring. Damn near fell asleep in my chair.

Bob Pollard used to like getting hammered on stage, and the results were usually more comical than annoying - see Postal Blowfish on The Electrifying Conclusion DVD, where he drops the mike and for a second or two has no idea that he dropped it.

Haha! Well if it's funny, I can see it being entertaining.
