Over halfway through the month and how is everyone travelling? 20 total with 9 new views. On pace I suppose. Had a marathon Saturday and was busy Sunday and Monday so it balanced out nicely to keep me on track.

Over halfway through the month and how is everyone travelling? Can't complain. I've seen some real good and enjoyable ones, some pleasant surprise and had only one or two of the below average/poor films, but I am thinking on saving some of the best until the last day of month, and then keep on trying to see a few more of the first-time views.

Over halfway through the month and how is everyone travelling? I've been managing to see one movie a night, sometimes two on a good night. The first-time viewings have been a mixture of good and bad.

Over halfway through the month and how is everyone travelling? Been seeing plenty of episodes from horror TV shows but haven't yet gotten into any movie-watching. Was sick for a while, so that kind of messed things up from the outset. Hope to finally watch a full movie tonight.

Geralds Game was great. Very faithful adaptation from the book from what I remember. I read it about 10 yrs ago. I was very pleased they didn't cut much of anything out that I could remember. And was very happy they threw the nod at Dolores Claiborne. Which if you didn't know, both novels tied together spiritually through Jessie and Dolores going through life changing events during the same eclipse. In the books they see each other in a kind of vision. When Jessie mentions the woman standing atop a well in a red dress...that's Dolores.

Over halfway through the month and how is everyone travelling? I've been enjoying myself this year. I tend to watch my movies in order of release, and this year that has put me mostly in the '70s and '80s which were very good decades for horror. I've mostly been watching one movie a night, but I've also spent quite a bit of time watching special features. I've actually been wanting to ask: What do the rest of you do about special features in this month? I always try to watch everything on the discs that I've got, but it sometimes seems like a shame to, for example, watch four audio commentaries on one movie (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) instead of watching four more movies (although I do tend to do other things than watch the movie while listening to the commentary). However, the first year I did the challenge I ended up with a huge backlog of special features to watch in November, and I don't want that to happen again. So do you guys try to keep up on special features, do you save them for later, or do you just ignore them? On another note, I just noticed that we're supposed to keep our posts small in the Progress Thread, and I haven't been doing that very well. I decided to fix that by deleting all but my last few reviews, leaving the list of what I watched intact. I'll continue writing my thoughts on each movie as I go, but now they'll be deleted after a few days. I do have everything saved on my computer, so I can repost it if anyone is interested, but I've always assumed that I'm writing mostly for myself. One thing I've started doing at the start of each October Challenge is to look back at what I watched the previous year and what I thought of it. This is particularly valuable in the case of something like Cry of the Banshee, where I watched one version last year with the intention of watching the other version this year.

I participated in this several times on the old site. I wish I had signed up on here this year since I've watched a lot of new horror and old favorites this month. Oh well maybe next year.

I didn't watch a lot of horror yesterday, only one. I had to finish watching the last 2 epodes of Critical Role(its D&D show on Geek and Sundry) and then it was time for some Champions League. But, I will get to my yearly goal of a 100 horror films.

This is particularly valuable in the case of something like Cry of the Banshee, where I watched one version last year with the intention of watching the other version this year. In regards to extra features, if it's something quick and minor (e.g featurette or deleted scenes) I'll try to squeeze it in. As for documentaries or commentaries, i usually leave them to after the month is over, or the next time I rewatch the film. Really it all depends how invested I was in the film. I find in recent times the extras aren't as important to me, unless it's one of my favourites or a film I'm curious about. So there are numerous copies I'm sitting on that I haven't even bothered and probably never will. Nah that's fine, you could've kept your reviews on your progress list. The limit was more along the lines of not knowing the number of participants, but since it wasn't a massive turn out it doesn't bother me. Should be easy to tally up at the end no matter. I got a bit sloppy myself after kicking off with my thoughts. But it's cool if you want to add them back on there.

I just watched Possession (1981). It’s definitely a creative way to show a failing marriage.

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread until now. I would have loved to join in, I do horror marathons every October.
Unfortunately, this year I've been binging on horror shows (iZombie, Z Nation) this month, and have only watched one horror(ible) film: A*P*E (1976).
I'll definitely be here for 2018!

Does watching the TV cut for the first time of a movie you've seen before count as a first time view?

Does watching the TV cut for the first time of a movie you've seen before count as a first time view? Different cuts are tricky. I would say no, but I guess it depends on how much of a difference that extra footage makes in shaping the film?

Watching "The Ring Virus (1999)" last night, and I didn't realise that it was the Korean adaptation (almost scene by scene) of the Ring story. Kind of inferior to the Japanese version, especially the muted execution of the frights. While longer, I found the story to flow better, but it really did miss the dread inducing atmosphere and tension.

I've got "Child Eater" (2016) lined up this week. Has anyone seen this one, or even the short film that inspired it? Does look interesting, and the creature design looks creepily good, but I've heard/read very little about it.

I finished the minimum requirements last week. I should hopefully finish with 50 viewings, 30 of them FTVs.
