Euh isnt it so that T'Challa hasnt even been crowned king at the point the Black Panther movie starts? So he cannot be a dictator because he hasnt had the chance to be one yet.
So this whole discusion is a bit strange to me. Especially since the MCU often has made changes from the comics. So people beed to wait till february to find out how good or evil King T'Challa will be.

You're not entirely wrong, my combative friend. T'Challa rules with an iron hand. His mandate demands that he keep Wakanda safe and pure - a homogenous culture free from all external influences. He can and does resort to murder to enforce this edict. Whoa! Murder? So all those claims by MCU fans that T'Challa is a good guy and a benevolent King is really just BS? Sounds like under T'Challa, Wakanda is like a prison state, with restrictions on personal freedoms. And this "good guy" King is willing to resort to murdering his own citizens to keep everyone in line. It's no wonder the people want to revolt against T'Challa! DC-fan, please stop being so much more intelligent than the rest of us. It's soul-crushing. It makes me want to curl up into the fetal position and allow myself to be swallowed back into my mother's womb. As for death man. I dig your style hahahahaha

That's like saying Superman is a Dictator because of his power and influence. Watch the movie before you say stuff like this.

According to 1 user above, T'Challa rules Wakanda with an iron hand and favors keeping Wakanda isolated from the rest of the world (like Cuba under Fidel Castro). So what happens if citizens of Wakanda try to leave the country? Would T'Challa have them arrested and imprisoned or even executed?

That's because it's one of the richest countries in the world. Wakanda is the main source of vibranium, which is the same stuff that made Cap's shield and the Black Panther suit. If it's not isolated from the world, other countries would want to harness vibranium. Like in the scene in the trailer where he's taking down the pirates.

No, but Wakanda isn't a Prison State...it's actually better off than most countries. And Superman does frequently thumb his nose at the US Army and US Laws.
And we don't know what happens...we will have to WATCH THE MOVIE to find out.

If it's not isolated from the world, other countries would want to harness vibranium. That sounds contradictory. You're saying that Wakanda is 1 of the richest countries in the world but you're suggesting that T'Challa is keeping all the vibranium to Wakanda and not selling to other countries. If Wakanda isn't selling their most valuable natural resource to other countries, then how did Wakanda become 1 of the richest countries in the world?
If T'Challa isn't selling the vibranium to other countries, then what is T'Challa doing with all that vibranium that is being harnessed? Is T'Challa using all that vibranium to develop weapons that Wakanda can use to go to war against other countries?
Also, who is working the mines to harness all that vibranium? If T'Challa isn't selling that vibranium to other countries and keeping all that vibranium for Wakanda, then the workers working the mines to harness all that vibranium aren't working for private companies? So are they being forced by the government of Wakanda to work as slaves in the mines to harness all that vibranium for Wakanda?

If citizens of Wakanda who try to leave the country are arrested and imprisoned or even executed, then I would say that qualifies as a Prison State. Basically, like East Berlin, when the Berlin Wall was still up and anyone trying to escape over, through, or under the wall was arrested or shot.

We don't know why Wakanda is isolated, so we have to wait and watch the movie. What happens to those who leave? We don't know so we have to wait and watch the movie. So...wait and watch the movie before you show, once again, you are a presumptuous fool.

My understanding is that the country protected itself since the colonization of Africa. The citizens of wakanda don't trust the outside world that much and I doubt they would want their king to even deal with the politics of the outside world.

We can only assume that they have no need and or desire to mix with the outside world (which includes their neighboring African countries). You can probably leave Wakanda, you just can't say anything about what you saw. I don't know what the consequence is if you deviate; it appears to range from being discredited to more extreme sanctions.

Are citizens of Wakanda allowed to freely travel in and out of the country? Or would any citizens of Wakanda trying to leave the country be arrest and imprisoned or even executed?

So...wait and watch the movie before you show, once again, you are a presumptuous fool. It doesn't matter why Wakanda is isolated. All that matters is that they are. Agreed. It doesn't matter why T'Challa chose to keep Wakanda isolated from the rest of the world. What's important is if citizens of Wakanda are allowed to travel freely in and out of the country whenever they want or if they would be arrested and imprisoned or even executed for trying to leave the country. You can probably leave Wakanda, you just can't say anything about what you saw. So there's no free speech in Wakanda? What about the press? Is there a free press in Wakanda? Or is the press in Wakanda controlled by the government and nothing more than a propaganda tool for the government? And if a citizen of Wakanda leaves the country and defects, how does T'Challa stop them from saying anything about their living conditions in Wakanda? Does T'Challa threatened to imprison or execute any family members they still have in Wakanda if they say anything about their living conditions in Wakanda?

Well, lucky for us, there's a Wikipedia article on the subject. This should answer some of your questions.

So I looked into this matter, because fuck it, why not? And I found out that in the comics the nation of wakanda does allow people in and out and is part of the United Nations.
As far as the film goes, we'll have to wait and see how they handle it. Should be interesting!
WAKANDA FOREVER!

If Wakanda was really THAT isolated, they wouldn't bother going to UN meetings or having missions to the rest of the world. The key isn't that they're isolated, it's keeping the rest of the world from knowing HOW advanced they really are.

So much so that they've concocted an elaborate cover - "Shepards and cool textiles" - to hide the true state of the country's technology and wealth. Attending UN functions is just a part of that cover.
