I hate the other fanbases because of the way they treat us MCU fans. And I don't believe for a minute that charzhino has actually seen the film. He hates the MCU way too much to bother actually sitting down and watching it. The "other fanbase" simply call you out on the flaws in the MCU that you and your fellow fans (people like ArchAStanton) are too stubborn to acknowledge. But your kind get so annoyed they go and attack other brands as a default defence mechanism. This thread alone is an example, Im simply posting my thoughts on the film (and yes I have seen it) in a non aggresive manner yet I get attacked and then told DC/X-Men are garbage films with no provocation. There are more DC and Fox's X-Men fans on this board, including me, that enjoy comic films regardless of studio than MCU militants who insist if you're non-MCU then you're a worthless piece of dirt.

Yeah, love triangles are always popular. This one went only for 2 movies anyway, and it's Shakespeare compared to squishy MCU raccoon turd like You really need to grow a thicker skin... Her saying she felt like a monster was due to her being brainwashed into being a killer by the Red Room. Anyone not requiring to be spoonfed could see that. And anyways, the FoX-Men love triangle falls apart considering how Jean and Logan barely knew one another.

Yeah, they'd probably have the balls to blow up the Mansion for good, kill off Xavier and Magneto and move beyond the "Poor oppressed mutants" plot. And FoX-Men fans just can't stomach that. Maybe so but I wouldn't trade that because of the dumbing down of the property that Marvel would inevitably do. If you insist on that line of thinking: You don't get dumber than Holocaust exploitation.

- Since UNCANNY X-MEN#150 (1981) where we see the post-Silver Age Magneto (starting under the pen of Chris Claremont) who was the holocaust-surviving version.
- By having laser battles for magic items in the time of the Holocaust (Cap1)
You really cannot spell dumber more clearly than that. Good thing that Fox redeemed them.

[/p] [/quote] Claremont's a hack, been one for over 25 years. Probably why Singer loved his stuff. Basically Indiana Jones, so cool. Inventive, giving a well-deserved finger to those "grounded" sell-outs. There was more to WWII than the Holocaust, and Cap's first movie actually bothered having someone say that not ever German was a rabid Nazi which is more than X-Men is capable of doing. FOX lacks balls, always has always will. Their movies appeal to the people who have no courage. And seriously man, grow a thicker skin. Why you're so repulsed by the people in these superhero worlds not being afraid to actually do cool stuff like "What if the Nazis succeeded in getting their hands on alien tech and using it?" I'll never know.

My unbiased review from last nights screening. Overrated film. The critics calling it the best MCU movie is again the kind of hyperbole that happens every time a new MCU movie comes out. I went into the film having quite enjoyed GotG 2.0 and mildly liking Homecoming. And these 2 entries are better than Ragnarok. Its a shame because there's a lot of cool stuff in the film. The positives (spoilers): CGI looks great The fight choreography is probably the best I've ever seen in the MCU (correct use of slow mo, no shaky cam) Hulk v Thor scene is worth the admission price alone Grandmaster played by Jeff Goldblum was genuinely hilarious Its world building is very believable and faithful to source material But other than all these stylistic fanfares, unfortunately theres not much substance to the film. Towards the final fight Im thinking, whats the actual plot? Its bare thin. Thor gets stranded on a planet that he has to escape to return to Asguard and defeat supervillain. Thats it, no intricacy, no subtext no themes. Thor 2 TDW is a better film because its script is much better and developed. TDW also uses Loki a lot more effectively and is still Tom Hiddlestones best performance in the MCU. And now the jokes (MCU snowflakes can stop reading now). There are too many jokes in this film. Its like they couldnt go 10 minutes without throwing in some kind of humor and majority of these gags fell flat and were cringey. How many comic relief characters does a film need? Its probably on par with GotG 1 comedic levels. The worst part is, once again with Marvel, the jokes were coming in during serious scenes. Examples, Thor trying to convince Valkriy to join him and fight for Asguard. Then throws the ball against window which bounces back and knocks him over. Really? Another during the final fight, Banner jumps out the ship in whats supposed to be a intense revelatory moment to turn into the Hulk and fight the intimidating wolf. But nope, he falls onto the bridge in a silly effort to suck more laughs from the audience and ruining the momentum (this part didnt get many laughs). Valkiry falling off her spaceship during her introduction because she was drunk - and this side story goes nowhere. And theres many other examples throughout the runtime of Ragnarok. Towards the end they try to fit in some emotional uprising scene between Thor and Odin but it just fails because they haven't earnt it. And why doesnt Thor mourn for his Warriors 3 friends who were slayed by Hella? In the first 2 films they are seen to be very close. As for Hella, shes basically a clone of Malketh but with more lines. Final rating is 5/10. Homecoming is better. Gotg 2.0 is much better. Thor 2 TDW is still the best Thor movie. Logan will remain easily the best FILM in the comic book genre this year as Justice League looks it could be hit and miss. Thor was way better than TDW.

Illustrating Magnetos psychological damage and confliction of whats moral/immoral as a result of traumatic childhood experiences in concentration camps in the X-Men films is far for interesting and ballsy than simpleton childs play like giving Nazis lasers and hunting a MacGuffin inifinity gem. The MCU can only dream of having a portrayal of a character so well fleshed out that he transcends the comic book version of himself.

Thor was way better than TDW. Personal taste. I liked the Loki-Thor dynamic a lot more in TDW and Odins involvement too. The exposition about the Ether was also very classy and of course Friggas death gave the story a lot of weight. The musical score was also amongst the best in the MCU. And the after credit scene where they take the Aether to the Collector and they name drop the infinity stone term for the first time is my fav after credit scene.

Illustrating Magnetos psychological damage and confliction of whats moral/immoral as a result of traumatic childhood experiences in concentration camps in the X-Men films is Exploitative, everyone knows that if you bring up the Nazis and stuff it's because no one would go against it since the Nazis are seen as the epitome of Modern Evil and anything a person does in reaction to that is wholly justified. It's laziness. Wouldn't stoop so low as to use "I was a victim of Nazis!" as motivation for someone. They did something most WWII movies never dared do and pointed out not every since German in WWII was a deranged madman. You'd never see X-Men bother with that. Hell, Bucky suffered worse and you don't see him using it to justify anything he does. He even owns up and admits maybe he should be put down for being a danger. Magneto is too self-righteous and flat to consider that. Fox Magneto doesn't transcend anything. In fact, this whole "transcend the genre" thing is stuff for people ashamed of the genre in the first place.

Exploitative, everyone knows that if you bring up the Nazis and stuff it's because no one would go against it since the Nazis are seen as the epitome of Modern Evil and anything a person does in reaction to that is wholly justified. It's laziness. Its a part of his character, deal with it. And you're only looking at it superficially. The Nazis could be any dictatorship group, fictional or non-fictional be it Hydra or the Russians. The point in the films is that Eric feels vengeful against a faceless enemy. Magneto never met Hitler or his top sub-leaders, who were ultimately the masterminds behind every massacre. Eric feels he is justified in killing the foot soldiers because they were just men following orders. He tries killing the fleet of Russian and US navy soldiers who attempted to nuke them in First Class, but Charles wants to reason with him exactly the point you keep bringing up - that there are innocent men on those boats who are not all bad, they've just been ordered as a part of their job. But of course Eric is deeply driven by vengeance ingrained from his childhood trauma and his thinking isnt easy to change, especially in his eyes by Xavier whose lived a comfortably luxurious life as a child growing up with a silver spoon. This is the subtle, deeper themes the MCU will not touch.

Right from the get-go this is a fallacy. Everyone is biased. You would have more credibility without mentioning this. Well Im going to get accused of being biased so I might as well get it out of the way. Nope, thats all there is. If you want to expand on my plot summary then by all means.. He was better in TDW imo. He had a lot of range and was key in the plot. His scene were he finds out about his mothers death is better than everything he did in Ragnarok. It felt like no more than 10 minutes passed until another joke happened. It honestly felt like I was watching GotG1.0 again. As for Hella, she is basically Malketh. Super villain awakens from a long slumber and wants to rule/destroy the universe/Asguard. Shes slightly better than Malketh though because of the cool scene she kills all the soldiers. The plot of the movie was this, from memory: -Surtur tells Thor about Ragnarok. He defeats him and takes his headpiece. -Thor returns to Asgard. Loki is ruling the place in the disguise of Odin. Thor unmasks him. -They go on a short journey with Thor making Loki reveal Odin's location. The location is destroyed. -An interaction with Doctor Strange and he delivers them to Odin's location. -Loki and Thor approach Odin. The All-father says he is dying and tells them about their older sister, Hela. Odin dies and Hela appears -Hela confronts both Loki and Thor. Thor's hammer is shattered. They try to escape through the Asgard wormhole. Inside, Hela chases them and knocks them out of it. -etc (There's a lot more obviously) Look at this small description of bvs on imdb. "Fearing that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs." Although we all know there is more to it than that. Actually you're right, Loki in the Dark World had a pretty sweet story arc. However Ragnarok showed his eventual change to the 'good side' while still being Loki-esque. Hela fought differently. Shattered Thor's hammer. She was the older sister albeit punished because of her excessive ambition. She has a wolf. She was the weapon that placed Asgard on top. Had a fight with Surtur

No, her saying she felt like a monster is MCU saying that women who can't bear children are basically monsters. It had nothing to do with her sterilization, and everything to do with her being trained to kill by the Red Room. If Superman was brainwashed by Darkseid, somehow become sterile in the process and said he was a monster, would you think it's because he's sterile or because he was brainwashed?

All MCU is guilty of is variety. As for hide the zucchini, it's called naturalistic dialog. It's nice how you bring that up but forget about stuff like Prima Noctae.

In fact, this whole "transcend the genre" thing is stuff for people ashamed of the genre in the first place. I forgot to address this. Bucky and Magneto is non-comparison. Firstly Magneto has suffered a lot more, hes lost everyone he cares about after witnessing it first hand in brutal ways. Bucky was simply revived from a failed war mission and experimented on, unconsciously. Secondly, Bucky has no control over his brain if captured. He can be manipulated to becoming a weapon for someone else without his consent, just like Banner with Hulk. And both characters have implied considering suicide because of it. Magneto is in full control of his actions. Its not about being self-righteous or flat. Hes mentally stronger than Bucky and Banner even though hed suffered a lot more than them. And Magneto transcends his comic source because theyve taken that character and made him better than the comics ever could.

Bucky was simply revived from a failed war mission and experimented on, unconsciously. Having your free will stripped away from you, being used as a living weapon while everyone you care about ages and dies and you can't do anything, being forced to kill thousands of people, being deliberately brain damaged...oh yeah, Bucky had a grand old time. The same thing happened to Nebula and Gamora, you don't see them let it define them. Magneto didn't have body violated and wasn't forced to kill anyone. Which is pretty damn awful. At least Magneto has control over himself. Believable and almost responsible reactions. He just lacks self-awareness and is too fanatical to consider anything else. It's one-note. Of course, Mystique and Xavier are lacking this area too. No, I don't think Erik has suffered more than Bucky. Erik doesn't have to worry that at any moment he'll lose control of himself start killing people. Of course, this is another "bad taste" defense. If you invoke the Holocaust for a character you're guaranteeing nearly no one would EVER consider disagreeing with them because apparently it's a carte blanche to do whatever you want and the story will make you out to be right. In the eyes of people ashamed of comics, because at least there Erik had periods of time where he showed self-awareness. Not in the movies. What movie Erik needs is a visit from Zarathos.
