A flawless grace, its ability to bewitch humans, the mysterious self-sufficient air that a cat possess has long been a subject of folklore, legends, and supernatural writings, entertaining our fascination and fears of the unknown “I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat.” ... Edgar Allan Poe
Mythology in part can be attributed to many of the characteristics that a cat possesses, a gentleness that conceals their wild nature, the sharpness of their claws and teeth, the way their irises change shape depending on the time of day, a fondness for licking blood, walking without making a sound, their nocturnal habits, speed and agility For centuries in Japan the supernatural cat creature bakeneko has inspired countless classic ghost stories, filmmakers of the 20 century adapted old legends and folktales, producing many horror/supernatural themed films centred on a mysterious revengeful feline. With varying abilities an unnerving trait of the bakeneko is its ability to shapeshift into human form and its cursing and possession of humans. But not all cat themed classic films are supernatural. The lovable pets, hard to control and a challenge on any film set, feature in many classic films, highlighting their endearing qualities, the manipulative power they have over us... Neko to Shôzô to futari no onna , A Cat, Two Women, and One Man (1956) Shirô Toyoda is a marvellous comedy that features a cat which has more importance, priority in the life and home of Shozo, than his mother his first wife and his second wife ... Hiroku kaibyô-den , Chronicle of the Ghost Cat AKA The Haunted Castle (1969) Tokuzô Tanaka . One of over a dozen horror themed cat films from Japan during the 50/60s. This tale is outstanding, loosely based on a 17th century legend it is an eerie dark tale of revenge, bakeneko style . Do you have any favourite Cat themed Classics films or notable guest appearances ?... “I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.” Jean Cocteau Where is My Boy ? ...

Having lived with two little cats for nearly 16 years, I donät regret the day I saved them from a waste paper dumster,, we might not always have agreed all the time about house rules, and one can't yell at cats, they don't give a shit what you say, they look at the hands waving around..
She was the brainy cat since she could figure things out, he was just lazy (once he knew he was a cat), laying around just waiting for her to figure or solve a Problem.
Oh how I miss little Palette, she always searched for solutions, sometimes she did fix things, and sometimes her solutions was a mess, I don't care,
Sorry for getting to personal here!

No reason to be sorry. I loved my cats so much that I'll never own one EVER again. Movies. Cat People, the later version. Listening to both versions of David Bowie's 'Cat People' now.

Felidae is an animated film based on a book. I liked the book and quite enjoyed the film. It’s a pretty good cat movie, I think (though it’s not a children’s film, that’s for sure. There’s blood/guts and other not-very-nice things). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felidae_(film)Felidae Part 1.

In a fleeting but significant & suggestive Cecil B. De Mille pre-code moment from the remarkable epic The Sign Of The Cross (1932). Empress Poppaea immersed in her asses milk bath has just ordered her attractive attendant to join her, as Dacia steps out of her garments the camera pans to... then leaves.

Does anyone remember GAY PURR-EE? Coming eight years before THE ARISTOCATS, it was another animated cat movie set in France. It featured the voices of Judy Garland, Robert Goulet and Red Buttons.

I understand completely, teleadm, having had two soulmate cats for 16 years that I rescued, loved, and lost. And yet they are with me still today in so many ways. And I will treasure them always until we meet again. Thank you for your beautiful post.
