In addition to ones already mentioned
TRIPLE CROSS -- cute scene with a guard playing with a kitten.
The scene stealing cat in THE GODFATHER
TRUCK TURNER -Isaac Hayes with cat/kitten
ROAR -1981 The Tippi Hendren cat movie. Everyone needs to see it at least once to watch the guy letting lions chew his bloody hand-no wonder he got gangrene.

Crna mačka, beli mačor , Black Cat, White Cat (1998) This manic Serbian comedy from Emir Kusturica. is set in a ramshackle Gypsy community on the banks of the Danube. A recurring motif is the appearance of a black and white cat. The two cats are the only witnesses to the young lovers wedding aboard the small riverboat on its way to Bulgaria.

Ahh, I see petrolino has already thrown in Cat People, my first thought for this thread... May I also mention both of Universal's Black Cats ('34 and '41), both of which were discussed recently on this board? I tend to lean more towards dogs than cats, but with that said I had a beautiful Maine Coon, whom I loved dearly, for many years; she passed away in 2009, and I haven't had a pet since. I miss her a great deal. I recently wrote a poem--well, more a piece of light verse--about cats at the request of one of this board's cat-fanciers, Catman:

NalkarjNice poem. I'm not good at that at all. Maybe the occasional limerick. Here is my favorite cat quote: – short story, The Cats of Ulthar by H.P. Lovecraft

I have to agree with manfromplanetx, spiderwort – those were indeed some lovely shots (especially the ones from Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and The Adventures of Milo and Otis). That^ last one with the cheetah, though? That really got to me.

That^ last one with the cheetah, though? That really got to me. Thank you, Chalice. Much appreciated. As for Duma - well, it was a film made by Carroll Ballard, possibly the champion film director of all things to do with animals. And I, too, think that shot is truly beautiful, and deeply moving, highlighting the universal connection from species to species that I fear we too often forget these days. The film is not as good as some of Ballard's others, but it's still lovely, and very much worth seeing, if you haven't already. Here's another shot that I also love:

Le Chat (1971) This is beautiful, Julie. Now I must find some way to see this film. It's available on youtube, but only in French. As there is very little dialogue, it might work even if you don't speak French (?). Be prepared for watching a very depressing (though mesmerizing) film despite this lovely image.

I've noticed they quite often appear in Jacques Rivette films. I can definitely recall them from Merry-go-round, The Story of Marie and Julien and of course the final enigmatic shot from Celine and Julie Go Boating.

How could I forget Ffolkes aka North Sea Hijack?
Roger Moore is a commando who hates women but loves cats. When he is being briefed on an assignment by James Mason and there is a cat nearby he warns him: "I like cats. And I don't like people who don't." When he is inbetween missions he sews a cat-themed quilt.
