...is to make her a 'Darth Revan' type of character.
The whole twist being she was once a powerful Sith Lady, and somehow got her memory erased, and dumped on Jakku.
That would explain the whole 'Mary Sue' problem so many people have, and why she developed her powers so quickly.

And it doesn't follow Disney formulas. So it probably won't happen. I'd love to see JJ Abrams prove me wrong. I dare him.

I triple dog dare him to reveal Snoke is alive, that he's Plagueis, that Rey was his apprentice from birth through early childhood because she's either a Palpatine or a Skywalker, that Rey takes over leadership of a FULLY FEATURED Knights of Ren, that Leia's death makes Kylo reconsider things, that an emotional, apologetic moment between Kylo and Force Ghost Luke finally persuades him back to the light and that he goes on to restart the Jedi Order.

I used to disagree with you. I no longer can. You are dead right.

See? that's what i'm talking about... New ideas being thrown around, that makes me wonder what's going to happen next. Unpredictable.

Plagueis would be intersting...but they moved us in such a weird direction and killed off the OT characters...so if he's in it, I'll raise my pre-rating of Episode IX from 0/5 to 1/5.

The Mary Sue problem goes much deeper than just the untrained Force abilities or all her other skills.
The hallmark of a Mary Sue character is that he/she gets unwarranted attention and the in-universe is bent around so to accomodate/glorify the character: Eg "Leia-hugged-first" incident: Leia as Rebel leader ignores all her her surviving pilots and even Chewie (after Han's death) so that she can hug and mourn with Rey for Han (Han/Leia theme swelling), a girl she has not seen before and who potentially killed her son...and many many other scenes like that. You need something bigger than just a memory wipe and a Sith master past (she is 19). Only explanation is that she is an elementary Force Goddess or sth silly like that. Thereby explaining why she gets all the attention, missions, positions she wants and is good and better at everything.
Note that would only explain why she is written as a Mary Sue, but that would not unmake her a Mary Sue. Remeber the old saying: You can take the "Rey" out of "MaRey Sue", but you can never take the Mary Sue out of Rey.

Not in TLJ. She dosen't know what a jedi is, she dosen't know what to do with luke, she makes errors etc... There's still the force abilities thing though

And Padme and Obi Wan and Yoda and Palpatine.

So you didn't know anakin would become Darth Vader. or Yoda survived and obi wan survived and would be exiled and luke and leia divided. You didn't know what ultimately was going to happen? I guess your prediction capabilities are way overestimated LOL
