I don't recall Norman turning into a Hulk like being and killing his wife. They took a different tack with Norman, Then it's not a direct adaptation. Peter in the movie doesn't act anything like the Ultimate version anyways.

I thought Zendaya was their version of Mary Jane in this continuity though? I'm sure it was an idea they thought of early on, but basically kept Zendaya's part small enough to spark some interest and see how people would react to the big "MJ" reveal towards the end.Β I'd say it's more that it's a trend in blockbusters these days to take a character in an adaptation, give them an alias, and then reveal at the end that they were in fact a character from the source material and act like it's some kind of twist. TDKR did this with Talia, Star Trek Into Darkness did this with Khan, and Homecoming did it with MJ. I think anyone saying that she's not standing in for Mary Jane is in serious denial.

They did the same thing with Moneypenny in Skyfall too, I think( Been a while since I saw it).

Then its sequel did the same thing with Blofeld, even though a movie called "Spectre" would obviously have Blofeld in it.
