No. I was bullied incessantly in the 7th grade by some skinny little mean kid. Today, he is a loved and respected college professor. Can't win. I've found males who have greater strength naturally usually bully others. they have high self esteem and do better in life.
I find that remark somewhat disturbing. Might I impose upon you to answer your own OQ?

I came from a very tough neighborhood, and none of the toughest guys were bullies. The guys who desperately wanted to be considered to be tough were the bullies, but the real tough guys didn't let bullying happen too much.

Much (perhaps most) "bullying" has nothing to do with physical strength or size or violence. It's not solely a "male" thing. Some of the most skilled bullies are of the female variety and they tend to travel in packs. Verbal bullying is much more difficult to deal with than physical and leaves much longer lasting scars.

Do you mean an impoverished area? A violent crime ridden area perhaps? What city are you talking about if you don't mind me asking?

East Harlem, NYC 1950-1971 I knew it would be some neighborhood in the northeast. It must be scary to be a catholic in that part of the US. I've known a lot of guys who moved to the South from there and I also worked for several years in different cities in the northeast and every catholic guy said they grew up in a "tough" neighborhood. Any cool gang stories?

Never bullying. But violence has sometimes been played for laughs in some TV show and movies. For example in a movie called THEY LIVE there's a long fight scene between two guys that's hilarious as all get out! In a recent movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson one guy punches the other as the punch line (no pun intended) to a joke. Its even in the trailer.

I was bullied. In grade 7 this big kid always picked on me for no reason and one day he told me to hit him. He dared me to hit him in the nose. And I dont even remember doing it, but according to eyewitnesses I did. He ran out of the room (I remember that part) and after that he was ALWAYS nice to me.
Another time I was in gym class and these idiots blocked the change room doors so no one could get in-so the kids on the other side had to push on the doors to open it. Somehow I ended up near the front, and when the door opened, this big guy grabbed me by the waist and pushed me--which caused me to fly ass over head into a far wall. At that moment I calculated the options. I knew that if I did nothing, I would likely be subjected to disrespect and bullying. I had to do something. Plus I was angry. So I got up and jumped him from behind. We were wrestling about-he tried to get me into a head lock to cut off circulation but as he was doing so a teacher appeared and I looked at him and said: "Oh shit."
The teacher said: "yes, you're in shit-come with me" so we followed him to the office..and as we were heading there I said: "we were just talking." The other kid gave me an annoyed glance but the teacher seemed amused. I think the oxygen cut off had made me a little light headed.
Later I learned the bully had told people that I jumped him from behind and so he threw me against a wall.
A real Leave it to Beaver kind of situation.

i agree with you about violence. there is a movie called buffalo soldiers with joaquin phoenix about US army being stationed in Germany with literally nothing to do. so they get into all sorts of things... and even though half of the things are drug-induced related, they are pretty funny. that's joaquin's car in the movie.

I have noticed that the majority of "comedic" bullying in movies and tv shows these days come from women. Male bullies in comedies almost always get some comeuppance often even dying. Female bullies conversely seldom if ever get any comeuppance. I find this disturbing and think it sets a very bad example. I find the trend in bully mothers particularly disquieting. It seems like every mom in a comedy these days has to be shrewish or smothering or both. Either way she destroys her family's lives usually while the dirt stupid dad bumbles along terrified to question her.
Am I the only one who hates this trend and finds it troubling?

Oh, yeah, I just find it hilarious—a real bucketful of laughs.
Honestly, OP, what kind of question is this? Is there anyone who’s going to answer “yes” to this (re: real life), except in a sarcastic way? C’mon.

I wouldn't say that's natural because only a small percentage do. Also, I've known bullies who lacked physical strength, although they tend to CLAIM to be stronger than they actually are.

I hated the way the character Lynette was treated by her husband on Desperate Housewives. He was a whiney passive aggressive brat who always had to have his way. She couldn't open her mouth without being accused of bullying or emasculating him within 10 seconds of any disagreement. She was supposed to be this terrible control freak who always had to run the show and hubby Tom was supposed to be the poor victim. Not that she wasn't a control freak, but damn Tom could milk it for all it was worth and then some to play the poor put upon victim and guilt her into paying him back/overpaying. It was never acknowledged he was just as much the control freak. I've never seen a supposed shrew of a wife cave as often or the supposed poor hen pecked husband get his way so often.
