It's been a while so I don't remember the specifics.
I have read some scholars say it was more of a story against the Roman rule at the time.

Basically, that part of humanity which remains faithful to the Lord is finally redeemed from this corrupted state, and the rest of them get their just desserts too, in hell.

I've never read it.
What happens in it? Jesus Christ returns and defeats Satan? The Book of Revelation (aka the Apocalypse) was written by St. John the Apostle, while he was imprisoned on the island of Patmos. It is written with a lot of symbolism, as he was writing to the early Christians, who were undergoing persecution by the Roman Empire at the time. This Book was written to give them strength and support. Eg.Babylon was a coded name for Rome. The Beast was also a reference for Rome. The Whore was a coded name for Jerusalem.

There is no credible evidence that St. John the Apostle is the same "John" who authored the Book of Revelation. I've always found it interesting that a certain group of people can recognize that Babylon was symbolic for Rome in Revelation while not being able to grasp that Egypt was symbolic for Babylon in Exodus. Then there are those who want to see a book written about then current events, Revelation, as a book of prophecy while viewing a book of prophecy, Exodus, as a tale of current or past events.

It is written from a decidedly Catholic perspective, and although I didn't agree with all of their interpretations, I got a sense that the Catholic Church regards it as having value for later generations as well. Don't you think it was written for people today as well as the early Christians who lived at the same time as John?

I am actually doing a Bible study at my Church on Revelation (we did it before, & we are doing it again). I visited Patmos back in 2009.

There's a bunch of giant monsters running around... and they destroy Tokyo.
I might be confusing it with Godzilla.

I remember reading on the Internet that the Seventh Day Adventists believe they are representations of the Old and New Testaments which were killed in the French Revolution. This seems a little strange to me, as Paris is located a good distance geographically from Jerusalem.

It's a very cryptic book full of symbolism and imagery and yet it's still more interesting and manages to make more sense than abiogenesis and any of the scientific theories on the origin of life.

The Woman clothed in the sun I believe is the Blessed Virgin Mary.
