I pray to God he's joking.
If he's not, then fuck him. Never let him touch this franchise again.

Not every movie needs a genderbent character. We already have the Lara Croft movies for a female Indy.

The line about changing the name from Jones to Joan makes no sense, Jones is a surname that wouldn't change depending on gender. I certain hope this doesn't occur

Not every movie needs a genderbent character. We already have the Lara Croft movies for a female Indy. Exactly, and the newest one broke even and turned a profit so we might get a sequel. That's your lady Jones right there.

A female? "Indiana Jones"?
Hell No.
"Indiana Jones" passing "the torch" to a brand new female Archaeologist character?
I can live with that.

I really don’t understand this—not just as something I don’t like, but I mean that the actual words Spielberg used don’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. azzajones already made the point that the “Joan-Jones” bit is inexplicable. I can’t imagine a native English-speaker making such a mistake even when trying to talk quickly. “We’d have to change the name”—yes, that’d be true, obviously—“from Jones to Joan.” That’s such a non-sequitur as to bring the whole statement’s validity into question. Unless it’s a joke?—but what a weird joke to make! Or could the point be what MCDemuth wrote, that there would be a whole new Indy-like female character? Then the statement would make a little more sense, as it wouldn’t be “Jones” at all. “Joan,” then, is less a character name and more a humorous metonym for any hypothetical female character. That doesn’t comport with the Sun article, though. It also doesn’t align with Spielberg’s previous insistence that no one but Ford can play the role—unless we ended up with Steven Spielberg and the Temple of the Amazing Money-Making Jones/Joan Franchise? (I know that’s a horrible joke— mea culpa.) I dunno, the whole thing just seems off to me. Again, does anyone actually know when this interview happened? The Sun article is dated Apr. 4, but despite all the references to “the interview,” I can’t find a transcript anywhere. Or you may ignore this. Toasted Cheese will probably say that I’m overanalyzing it, that my points are “moot and perhaps not even that relevant.”

Tomb Raider should have been that. Oh well. Next time, don't give it to the writer of both Huntsman movies, Divergent and TMNT (2014).

It's a damn shame because Tomb Raider would have been the perfect franchise to revive the Indiana Jones type of adventure films. But for whatever reason they can't get it right.

I know right, it's a simpler task than adapting say Warcraft or Assassin's Creed. The ingredients for success have been laid out by both Indiana Jones and its imitators like The Mummy or National Treasure. Hell, they should have gotten Stephen Sommers as the director! At least we'd know it'd have been fun to watch!

Instead of trying so fucking hard to virtue signal all the time why didn't ANYONE in Hollywood try and stop the countless assaults on women and children from all their scumbag pals? Spielberg must be afraid some of his victims are thinking of coming forward so he's showing he supports women just in case.
