If this movie can't break the record held by The Force Awakens, the question is, what movie can? Coming off the huge success of Black Panther, who was heavily advertised for this movie, this movie would have been it. I dont think Avengers 4 will do it.
But the weekend is not over. Estimates can change. It is sitting at around 230 now, so will it have the gas to hit the 247 mark?

If it gets close enough, Disney will nudge the numbers over. Disney never does that. They've left several of their movies just short of milestones.

"Industry estimates have Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War at $104M today (including that $39M Thursday night) and $237M over three days, which would put the pic second behind Star Wars: Force Awakens record opening of $247.9M. Some even believe that Infinity War could beat Force Awakens ($247.9M) but a lot of that will depend on tomorrow’s momentum." The opening day record looks to be out of the question but there's still a chance for the opening weekend. It needs to do 5% better. If this movie can't break the record held by The Force Awakens, the question is, what movie can? Coming off the huge success of Black Panther, who was heavily advertised for this movie, this movie would have been it. I dont think Avengers 4 will do it. I don't think it would either. I could see Avengers 4 doing a bit less just as Avengers 2 did. Star Wars Episode IX would have been a possibility if The Last Jedi hadn't been so controversial. Aside from those two...I have no idea.

"Industry estimates have Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War at $106.7M (including that $39M Thursday night) and $245.6M over three days, which would put the pic second behind Star Wars: Force Awakens record opening of $247.9M.
It's gone up even more. It's gonna do it I think. They'll make sure to push it over if it's that close, they'll find the money somewhere to give it the record.

If it's a million or two away, they'll nudge it over so they can say the movie broke a significant record. It's just what studios do.
I honestly would he surprised if Jurassic World didn't actually beat Avengers opening.

Avengers opened 12:01am Friday Jurassic World opened 7pm Thursday 5 extra hours

On Friday IW was number 1 at the BO and Black Panther was number 5. 2 movies from one franchise in the top 5 at the same time. Incredible.

More on kids not liking the movie. This is worth watching for box office. Kids begging to go see a movie over and over is a real thing. I don't think that's going to happen with this one. Go to 5:11 or so:

I honestly would he surprised if Jurassic World didn't actually beat Avengers opening. They did this for Transformers 3 I believe it was. The studio said it made over 100 million opening weekend, they kept insisting on it, but in reality it only made 97 million. I see no reason why Disney would stoop to that level.

The estimates have jumped up about 15 to 20 million in the last 24 hours or so. If it sees another increase of any kind tomorrow on the estimates, 250 million plus is a lock.

It only needs $60 million today to break TFA's $247 million all time 3 day record--In contrast BP had a three day total of $202 million

"With an estimated $247.1M, Avengers: Infinity War is quite close to smoking Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.96M) for the best domestic opening of all-time, but even rivals prefer to wait until morning before they call it a record.
Today, Infinity War scored the record for the best Saturday ever with $80.9M, which is 16% ahead of the previous Saturday record owned by Universal’s Jurassic World ($69.6M, June 13, 2015)."
It's a miniscule amount away from making the record.

I remember 2012. At least this time they are better prepared. Back then theaters were adding showings, desperate to meet demand. I had a co-worker unable to walk in to buy a ticket. He had to buy for the next week. I saw it twice because I pre-bought my ticket when they were first offered (& the co-worker thought I was crazy) & since it was early, I scored Sunday tickets.
But this is still pushing the limit it seems

It's gone up again.
"Disney has yet to call it, however, rivals are showing Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War with an opening between $248M-$250M"
It looks like it's a shoe in to do it now.

It deserves it. As the epic culmination of 18 other films coming together, It’s the rightful king of Asgard, I mean, the box office. At least, until we see what’s in store for #22.
