Estimates have shot up.
"Disney is now reporting that the all-time record opening weekend for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War stands at $258.2M"
Now it's only a few million away from beating TFA's opening when adjusted for inflation as well.

So almost as many tickets as TFA domestically. But its not even close overseas. It should break fastest to 1 billion also? Right now i see 1.8b-2b worldwide, but it depends if does crazy numbers in China if it comes close to Avatar at all.

I wonder how long if it can stay ahead of The Force Awakens for domestically. Not long I imagine. It might fall behind today or tomorrow.

I'm going to try to predict the box office for Infinity War as I did for Black Panther. These were my results for black panther: Prediction based on first 2 days: 607 domestic / 528 foreign / 1135 total Prediction based on first 18 days: 676 domestic / 539 forein / 1215 total Prediction based on first 23 days: 698 domestic / 642 foreign / 1340 total Actual results: 688 domestic / 643 foreign / 1331 total
So last time the prediction after 23 days was within 1% of the actual box office gross and the first 2 days value was already within 15%. I think most of the uncertainty early on was because I didn't take into account that the movie didn't premiere yet in some countries like China. I haven't had time to adjust this yet, so I expect this first prediction of IW to also be a bit on the lower side.
Based on a few other movies that are similar (I don't have enough time today to look at many movies so expect this to be a bit less accurate) I get a multiplier of 3.2 which would give a domestic gross of 827 million and a foreign gross of 830 million to get a total of 1.657 billion. I especially expect the foreign gross to be higher so expect this number to be at least 100 or 200 million higher due to China and other countries, giving a total of 1.8+ billion. Worst case scenario, the movie experiences divisiveness like TLJ (which doesn't seem to be the case) we still get a gross of 1.451 billion which is probably at least 1.5, maybe 1.6 billion due to China. So 1.5 billion is a lock and 1.7 billion seems fairly certain. Even 1.8 billion seems to be almost certain. In case it has legs like TFA (which tbh I don't think it will have) we're looking at a total of 1.946 billion which could get it to 2.1+ billion with China included. So the only possibility for IW to beat TFA is if its legs are similar. However, I think it legs will be closer to the 3.2 multiplier (like Black Panther) so I think a fair estimation at this point is at least 1.7 billion with 1.9 billion being a real possibility, which is very impressive and would be the 4th highest grossing movie of all-time. This prediction is only based on the similar performance of about 6 other blockbusters. When I have a lot of time, I want to make a database with many movies to make it possible to predict these kind of things a lot more accurately, but atm I'm kinda busy.

Oh that's cool, that's happened a few times now. This was when Jurassic World made the opening weekend record. And this was when Star Wars The Force Awakens made the opening weekend record. When Star Wars outgrossed Jaws. When E.T outgrossed Star Wars. When Star Wars was re-released outgrossed E.T. And when Titanic outgrossed Star Wars.

Interesting that Cameron never returned the favor when Star Wars took back the domestic crown.

Congratulations to the Russo Brothers, Kevin Feige and the entire cast of Avengers: Infinity War!
I wonder if Kathleen Kennedy is pissed at this?

Wonder what its second weekend will look like. It can have a 60% drop and it will still have a $100 million second weekend.

Congratulations to the Russo Brothers, Kevin Feige and the entire cast of Avengers: Infinity War! I wonder if Kathleen Kennedy is pissed at this? Probably more pissed that TLJ isn't in the conversation. And nervous that despite her faith in JJ Abrams, episode IX could trend down (rather than trend up) in box office earnings.

"After landing the best opening ever at the domestic box office with $257.7M, Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War pulled in an estimated $25.2M yesterday, making it the best Monday for a title at the April B.O. beating Universal’s Furious 7 ($14M on April 6, 2015). Disney will report their official figures later this morning."

There are very few people still looking forward to Episode IX. Even those that liked TLJ seem to be pretty disappointed with the fact that JJ is coming back.

Congratulations to the Russo Brothers, Kevin Feige and the entire cast of Avengers: Infinity War! I wonder if Kathleen Kennedy is pissed at this? Why would she be? It's not like Infinity War has a chance at making more total domestically.
