Name otherwise great films that have random, awkward, weird or just plain strange stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb type scenes. Post pics or vids if you can. I'll start. This scene from The Shining. It adds nothing to the story, and if taken out, wouldn't harm the film at all.

The main titles for Nocturnal Animals. Posting it would violate the terms and services.

Uncle Buck has a scene I didn't know was even in it until I saw it on DVD. I felt it wasnt needed and it would run smoothly without it. The teacher scene where he says blasphemor

It adds nothing to the story, and if taken out, wouldn't harm the film at all. It sure is odd! Here's a video discussing that scene. It contains some context from the novel for the scene and discusses some theories of what Kubrick was trying to do. It's pretty wild speculation, and I do agree it's very weird.

Cambridge Spies (2003) is one of the best Brit TV mini-series ever (4 parter). But one of the parts spends a lot of time on Philby's alleged mission to Spain to assassinate Franco. This event was apocryphal and detracts from the authenticity of the other events depicted.
But the real problem is that these scenes include a depiction of the bombing of Guernica apparently shot on a budget of about 80 dollars. For example, The German bombers, which at the time caused consternation throughout Europe, are depicted using one unarmed Tiger Moth training biplane. The scenes are badly written, mawkish, unconvincing, irrelevant to the main theme, and an insult to a tragic and important historic event.

Thanks for posting that homergreg. That completely explained why that scene is in that movie!

I'm in minority but I think Civil War would be better without the airport scene

The teacher scene where he says blasphemor Its a badly over acted scene for sure. This is why its part of a director's job is to keep the performances consistent. I think the scene works to show how different Uncle Buck is to the very square world he has just entered and his influence on the kids, but it does stick out like a sore thumb.

1. The boat ride scene from Willy Wonka.
2. "If I Were King of the Forest" from The Wizard of Oz.
3. "Let's Go to the Movies" from the 1982 version of Annie.
4. The entire "Flint Marko was the guy who killed Uncle Ben" subplot from Spider-Man 3.
5. The Tauriel and Kili romance from The Hobbit trilogy.
6. The Dwarves being chased around by Smaug for twenty to thirty minutes in The Hobbit trilogy.
7. The heads screaming at Dorothy in Return to Oz (I didn't mind the dark tone and frightening moments, but this scene took it a step too far. It's an Oz film, not a horror movie).
8. Not a scene, but I'd have to say that the few uses of profanity in Stuart Little were out of place and unnecessary. They were only there so that the film would receive a PG rating, and if you know me, I'm never one for deliberately shooting for a higher rating just to draw in more audience members. There are plenty of G-rated films that are loved by many.

I don't know if I'd call it awful but the ghost blow job during the montage in Ghostbusters (1984) lingers on for just a bit too long.

The Death scene involving the spy at the beginning of the original The 39 Steps, while necessary, was probably the worst acted death scene in cinematic history, in an otherwise brilliant film.

Una O'Connor's scenes in "Bride of Frankenstein". It's not her acting. It's that her comic relief character is so un-needed in the movie.
The ending of "A Boy and His Dog". This guy starts out as an asshole and goes through all these experiences and guess what? He's still an asshole.
