Jerry O'Connell singing on top of a table in Scream 2.
Or the scene in Beauty and the Beast in which a French peasant gets swallowed by an anthropomorphic trunk and is then spit out dressed in a bikini, a tutu and a red wig. Not funny, just awkward.

Russ Tamblyn's unnecessary solo dance scene in THE FASTEST GUN ALIVE.

Name otherwise great films that have random, awkward, weird or just plain strange stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb type scenes. Post pics or vids if you can. I'll start. This scene from The Shining. It adds nothing to the story, and if taken out, wouldn't harm the film at all. It sure is odd! Here's a video discussing that scene. It contains some context from the novel for the scene and discusses some theories of what Kubrick was trying to do. It's pretty wild speculation, and I do agree it's very weird. This scene is in the novel, I believe. And it's obvious the gent on the bed is getting a bow-wow job from the doggy. It's designed to show the decadence of the Overlook.

The fucking five minute long scene in recently Focus where we follow the henchman as he prepares to capture Smith and Robbie, so did the director have fun with that scene?.

Not funny, just awkward. Nah his dance is character development, either its very elaborate and fake or perhaps he really does have a heart of gold actually.

My choice, at least what immediately came to mind, would be less a scene than a whole sequence, but here goes... The flashback with Marlene Dietrich's singing in Berlin, in Witness for the Prosecution. Not only is it pointless (apparently, the whole reason for its existence was so that audiences could see Dietrich's legs--which is fine and all, but messes up the whole flow of the movie), but it ruins our understanding the character interactions that paved the way for the plot. In other words, it makes no sense story- or character-wise. I don't know who ultimately decided to film this scene--I can't believe that Billy Wilder wanted to, even if he did direct it (producer's orders?)--but it always annoys me every time I see the (otherwise first-rate) movie. as an aside did you find Power miscast at all? I know many found his acting hammy. I personally would've loved Holden perhaps, maybe Clift as well.

1. The boat ride scene from Willy Wonka. 2. "If I Were King of the Forest" from The Wizard of Oz. 3. "Let's Go to the Movies" from the 1982 version of Annie. 4. The entire "Flint Marko was the guy who killed Uncle Ben" subplot from Spider-Man 3. 5. The Tauriel and Kili romance from The Hobbit trilogy. 6. The Dwarves being chased around by Smaug for twenty to thirty minutes in The Hobbit trilogy. 7. The heads screaming at Dorothy in Return to Oz (I didn't mind the dark tone and frightening moments, but this scene took it a step too far. It's an Oz film, not a horror movie). 8. Not a scene, but I'd have to say that the few uses of profanity in Stuart Little were out of place and unnecessary. They were only there so that the film would receive a PG rating, and if you know me, I'm never one for deliberately shooting for a higher rating just to draw in more audience members. There are plenty of G-rated films that are loved by many. Whoa, I sure don't agree about Willy Wonka.

It's just a cringeworthy and misplaced reference to Top Gun to me. And the reaction of the other students makes me throw up a little in my mouth. I would've verbally abused the guy, especially if I was Sidney.

Its not a great movie (not bad though), but in A Cure for Wellness there's a scene toward the end where a guy sniffs his finger after he fingers a girl. You know what I mean. Something about it was just... stupid. I cant find a pic for it either. lol

Beauty and the Beast... I had no problem with the sidekick being a little 'gay' for Gaston [in fact, I saw that in the cartoon version of the movie back in '91], but there were a couple of scenes where Gaston himself seems to allow the line to be blurred. one that thankfully never made it to the final cut but was even thought of is bizarre... there was a monsieur toilette. a human turned into a toilet. what the hell? ~~~ disclaimer... I AM NOT RACIST AT ALL, JUST A HISTORIAN. the remake of Annie with Kathy bates... still takes place in the 30's but Oliver Warbucks has employed a black woman as his head administrative assistant. The actress who performed the role was amazing and I would have no problem if this was done in a more modern setting but this took place in the 1930's. sorry. historically that wouldn't have flown back then. nope. not a movie but I always had a problem with all these television shows that showed a married [or not] couple who were having a baby [either by accident like ross and Rachel or trying so hard year after year like Jamie and Paul] just to have the kid be at a babysitter's or at their grandparents or a neighbor for a majority of the rest of the series. even I love lucy did this! srsly, Rachel hardly raised emma and Jamie tried so hard to have a kid and we never freaking see her. what is the point of writing the kid in the show?

I wonder of the bear scene in The Shining inspired the Coens to have a little fun in True Grit.

Return of the Jedi - Jabba's Palace song & dance. Even the original cut was too lightweight for me. Now it's 100% unwatchable.
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I liked the movie enough. Take out the diner/cafe scene with most of Shia's combing obsession bs & omit the exaggerated vine swinging & its vocals.
For Your Eyes Only - the young figure skater having a crush on Bond. Yes, I know she's not supposed to be a love interest, which makes it all the more wasted filler. The more I re-watch it, the more it feels token youth stunt casting to appeal to wider audiences like every f'n movie of the 21st century.

2. "If I Were King of the Forest" from The Wizard of Oz. Not that it was totally unenjoyable, but "King of the Forest" does look like it should be a deleted scene, now that you mention it. It's like an extra vanity scene for Bert Lahr and he gets way too hammy. "the few uses of profanity in Stuart Little were out of place and unnecessary. " Did you ever ever see "Mousehunt" with Nathan Lane? It has the look of a kid's fairy tale movie, but when the mouse eludes and humiliates him multiple times Lane screams that he's going to get "That rat bastard!" , ha ha. Never been sure what kind of movie it really is.

I'll second the Scream 2 thing and I even mentioned that on the boards back on IMDb, your friends are being killed left and right, your life is in danger, and this %&$# thinks this is an appropriate time to break into a musical number?

The O.P. asks for out of place scenes in otherwise Great Films. A big discussion then erupts over Scream 2. Does anybody else notice a disconnect there?

Uncle Buck has a scene I didn't know was even in it until I saw it on DVD. I felt it wasnt needed and it would run smoothly without it. The teacher scene where he says blasphemor God damn washing machine.
