I know Danny Lloyd has said he'd be willing to do a cameo for this film if it was made.

Not the biggest fan of the Shining- I prefer the book - but still looking forward to this. A lot of other SK works are being adapted including the Tommyknockers, the sequel to It, the Pet Sematary remake, the Long Walk and the Castle Rock tv show. I hope the Shining sequel is good because really, King adaptations are a mixed bag.
The Shining sequence in Ready Player One was really cool by the way.

Will it actually have the subtitle THE SHINING SEQUEL by chance?

I thought the novel was quite good. It sure was great to see King writing straight-up horror again. I'm curious to see how the movie version turns out.

I wasn't a huge fan of the movie with Jack Nicholsan either but I loved the original novel by Stephen King and I thought 'The Shining' miniseries they made back in 1994 with Stephen King involved was better. We actually re-watched that around Christmas and I am not sure if it is going to have any ties to that or the Jack Nicholsan movie but I think it is more likely to be a standalone movie that will tie on to the novel and not the previous on screen adaptions. There are a lot of Stephen King adaptions coming and apart from the ones that you mentioned there is a 'Firestarter' and 'Graveyard Shift' remakes in development and Stephen King recently took some of the film studios to court and in October the movie rights for 'Children of the Corn', 'Carrie', 'Cujo', 'The Dead Zone' and others will revert back to him so he can adapt them himself. I have heard he has plans to fix the 'Children of the Corn' franchise and look forward to seeing what he does with it.

Doctor Sleep was the book that made me give up on being a loyal King reader. This may be a case where the movie could be better than the book.

I didn't know they're remaking Firestarter that's good to hear. I didn't even know they had turned Graveyard Shift into a movie. Was it faithful to the short story? Did it have the giant blind rat? Good to hear about Children of the Corn. I've seen the 2009(?) reboot and thought it was ok. But it still felt like a so bad it's good film. After It I think King adaptations need to up their standards. I heard the film adaption of Gerald's Game was good though I haven't seen it yet. Still holding out for a Langoliers remake and the short story Jerusalem's Lot from Night Shift.

I loved Sleepwalkers. Disappointed there wasn't a sequel. IMO the best King movie adaptations are Misery and the Running Man (very loose adaptation), though many will probably go with the Shawshank Redemption. I like the idea of a Shining prequel. One of the most enjoiyable parts of the book was Jack going through the scrapbook. Would love to see that on the big screen.

LOL yeah I watched the miniseries on VHS too. It's been ages since I've seen that but I recall liking it more. One of the problems I had with the film was Jack's decent to madness happened quickly and it didn't feel like there was much of a struggle on his part. I don't know, maybe I should watch both again. Regarding Duvall's portrayal, it didn't help she and Kubrick didn't have a good relationship

Regarding Duvall's portrayal, it didn't help she and Kubrick didn't have a good relationship she attention sought on the set. a lot. she was trying to get herself noticed because jack nickelson was 'such a big star'. kind of understandable but c'mon! well, Kubrick was cantankerous to begin with... at one point the 70 year old guy who played Halloran screamed 'mr Kubrick! tell me what you want!' and the scene with the heeere's johnny! took three days to film and they went through sixty doors. should have taken at the most 20 minutes and one door. every time they wanted to try shooting that blood pouring scene it took 9 days to set up and a year to get the look of blood right. i do appreciate how Kubrick treated the boy. this was his first acting gig and he was really young. they kept him sheltered of the scariness of this movie. as an educator and child advocate, i appreciate that.

I loved the novel and liked the Drew Barrymore movie too but I found the sequel they made to be really disappointing and I don't know if you ever saw 'Firestarter 2' but it was one of the worst adaptions of Stephen King I have seen and it was said in the novel and the first movie as an adult Charlie would be really powerful and could cause nuclear explosions but in 'Firestarter 2' we didn't get anything like that and it was poorly written. I would like Stephen King to make a sequel to it himself and I heard he is working on some more sequels to his older novels now and 'Doctor Sleep' was only one of them and there were another 3 he was coming up with all these ideas for. If the 'Firestarter' remake is successful they should make a movie of Charlie grownup but make it good this time. I haven't seen the 'Graveyard Shift' movie. It came out in 1990 and is one of the very Stephen King movies I have never seen. From what I heard it wasn't very popular and fans of the novel are happy they are making a remake of it. Some of Stephen King's movie adaptions have been awful and 'Needful Things' is a good example of that and Stephen King has even called it the worst adaption of one of his novels and wants to make a movie of it himself to make it the way he intended it to be but some adaptions haven't been that bad and are quite enjoyable.
I might be one of the few but I liked 'Salem's Lot' with David Soul and the remake with Rob Lowe and Samantha Mathis along with 'The Dead Zone' (The movie and TV show), 'Firestarter', 'Cujo', 'Christine', 'Pet Semetary', 'The Running Man', 'Riding the Bullet', 'The Dark Half', 'It' (The original), 'Misery', 'Sometimes They Come Back', 'Sometimes They Come Back Again', 'The Golden Years', 'Sleepwalkers', 'The Langoliers', 'The Night Flyer', 'Thinner', 'The Stand', 'Creepshow', ' Dolores Claiborne', ' Secret Window', '1408', 'The Mist', ' The Tommyknockers' and 'Rose Red' among others and I like the first 6 'Children of the Corn' movies especially 2, 3 and 4 but I haven't liked any since 'Children of the Corn 7' so I am glad it will be rebooted.

are you serious? i couldn't get through the book. Each their own. I liked it but I like the majority of Stephen King's novels and own all of them. It is some of the movie adaptions I have had problems with and I actually loved the 'Cell' novel but hated the movie adaptions 'cause I felt they cut it down too much and took out too many scenes that took away from the characters.

'Sleepwalkers' was a good movie but the whole Mother/Son incest thing was kinda creepy and definitely not what I was expecting to see when I watched that movie the first time. You could tell there was something between them from the start though and I think that made the movie even creepier in a way. I liked 'The Running Man' with Arnold and some people didn't like it 'cause it is different than the novel but I thought it was okay and have watched it a few times. A prequel of 'The Shining' could be good and they actually did that for 'Rose Red' with 'The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer' so if 'Doctor Sleep' is successful it might be done.

I watched Firestarter and enjoyed it, though I prefer the book. I had no idea there was a sequel, and if it is one of the worst adaptations then that's really saying something because there have been some really awful SK films. Agree with Needful Things. It isn't one of my favorite King novels but the movie was even worse. I agree King should get more creative control and involvement in the adaptations of his workss. I have seen both versions of Salem's Lot and like both, though I do have a slight preference for the Rob Lowe version. I have never seen the Dead Zone TV show and thought the movie was just ok. I like the book except the ending because it was SO SAD. I really felt emotionally drained afterwards. I only read it once and never picked up the book again. Cujo was the very first King novel I read, and I was disappointed because it wasn't supernatural (I thought back then King only wrote supernatural horror stories). I almost didn't buy another King except the back cover for Pet Sematary said 'THE MOST FRIGHTENING BOOK STEPHEN KING HAS EVER WRITTEN" all caps. I took a chance and wasn't disappointed. It's still my fave King book along with Salem's Lot. Running Man - cool movie Riding the Bullet - haven't seen it yet Dark Half - I actually prefer the film over the book It - I watched this with my sis and mom on VHS and it was awesome. The 2017 is also good. Sometimes They Come Back - I liked the short story more but the movie was okay. I can't remember if I've seen the sequel or not lol. The Night Flyer is great, and Miguel Ferrer was terrific, just exactly how I imagined Rick Dees woud be like. Rose Red, Tommyknockers, the Stand, Thinner, 1408, the Mist, Secret Window and Dolores Claiborne I all like. Secret Window and DC are better than the books they're based on IMO. I haven't read the Cell yet but have seen the film, wasn't that good. Samuel L Jackson and John Cusack were better in 1408. As for the Mist, I know how polarizing the ending is, but overall the movie was good. There was also a TV show but it was cancelled after one season. I will check out Children of the Corn, Golden Years and Creepshow. Have you seen Dreamcatcher the film and the Dark Tower? What about Storm of the Century and Desperation? About that incest thing in Sleepwalkers yeah, it was disturbing, but since they were I believe the last of their kind, it's the only way to continue their species. I can go on and on about King, but I'll just stop here. Happy to know you're a fan of his also.

I can go on and on about King, but I'll just stop here. Happy to know you're a fan of his also. The 'Firestarter' sequel was called 'Firestarter: Rekindled' and it came out in 2002 and had Marguerite Moreau playing Charlie 'cause Drew Barrymore was believed to refuse to return for it after seeing how bad the script was. One of the main problems with 'Firestarter 2' is it has a LOT of continuity errors and it is almost like the writers only watched 'Firestarter' once or read the book years ago and didn't freshen up their knowledge on the story before they wrote it 'cause there are too many errors for it to lineup as a proper sequel. They changed large parts of the first story in the flashbacks and had John Rainbird as the villain again with Malcolm McDowell playing him. In the sequel John has been experimenting on a group of young boys with special abilities like Charlie and he uses them to do illegal things for him like rob banks and steal weapons and then he gets them to try and kill Charlie. It is a very disappointing movie and I didn't find out about it until a few years after the movie had aired in America and I bought it on DVD thinking it was going to be good and it awful. I would have liked a proper sequel with Drew Barrymore playing an adult Charlie.
'The Dead Zone' TV show went for 6 seasons and it aired here in Australia on the Syfy Channel and I liked the show and own all of the seasons on DVD but it wasn't given a proper ending 'cause of the high production costs and ratings dropping off near the end. Another show I loved was 'Haven' and if you haven't watched that one you should check it out. It is based on Stephen King's 'The Colorado Kid' and it is very different than the novel but was a good show and it had a lot of references to other Stephen King novels and Troubles that were loosely based on them. I have seen 'Dreamcatcher', 'Desperation' and 'The Dark Tower' but I don't think I have seen 'Storm of the Century.' I have seen a lot of Stephen King movies and TV shows though and own a lot of them on DVD and I got box sets of Stephen King movies on Amazon like one that has 'It', 'The Shinning (1994)', 'Rose Red', 'Diary of Ellen Rimbauer', 'The Tommyknockers', 'Salem's Lot' and the 'Salem's Lot' remake and another with 'The Dead Zone', 'Pet Semetary', 'Silver Bullet' and 'Graveyard Shift.' Did you see ' Nightmares & Dreamscapes' and 'Kingdom Hospital?'
