'Children of the Corn 7' did indeed go on to become a ghost story and it killed the franchise for along time 'cause we didn't get the remake until 8 years later and it wasn't until after that we got 'Children of the Corn: Genesis' and 'Children of the Corn: Runaway' and there have been a number of Horror movies that have completely strayed away from what they were originally and 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' went from being a movie about serial killers dressed up as Santa Claus killing people to a movie about demonic cults who were kidnapping and impregnating women with their demon offspring and it makes you really wonder what these companies are thinking when they do it 'cause they shouldn't have the same names at all but I think they do it to cash in on the success of the previous movies and con fans into watching them 'cause they know they are more likely to watch those movies if they are a fan of the franchise than watch them if they gave them new names.
Deb I recall watching Silent Night on VHS. I rented the tape and I think it was part 3 - the one where psycho Santa goes after a blind girl - and I thought it was ok. I rented Silent Night 4 and was surprised that it had no connection to the 3rd but I still liked it. Silent Night 5 Toymaker wasn't good though. Have you seen any of the Witchcraft films? I saw Witchcraft years ago and forgot about it. Then while I was looking up old horror movies on Imdb I was shocked to see there's a Withcraft 16. The 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' movies seemed to be all over the place to me after 'Silent Night, Deadly Night 3' and I didn't think 4 was completely terrible but I just don't think it should have used the 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' name 'cause it was deviated away too much from the original franchise and 'Silent Night, Deadly Night 5' was too and it was like the film company had these scripts for different movies and decided to slap the 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' name on them to get fans of the series to watch them and there has been a few movie franchises that have done that with sequels that have no connection to the original movies or even anything in common with them but the producers have admitted using the names of previous established franchises to get more promotion for their movies and I find it misleading for fans. I haven't seen the 'Witchcraft' movies but I have heard about them and knew there were a lot of them. There are some franchises that go on forever and have heaps of movies and most people think about James Bond but there are franchises under independent companies that have lasted around 20 years and the 'Puppet Master' movies are a good example of that. Have you seen the remake of 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' with Jaime King called 'Silent Night?'

Yes I saw that on TV a few years back on late night TV. I don't know how much they cut from it but what I saw was enjoyable. Better than Silent Night 3, though I haven't seen the original Silent Night so I can't compare. I have not seen any of the Puppet Master films but have just finished watching Children of the Corn 2. I prefer the first but I still liked it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Terrence Knox as I used to watch him on the TV show Tour of Duty.

Ewan McGregor Says Doctor Sleep Movie is Faithful to Stephen King's BookIn a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert promoting his new film Christopher Robin, McGregor discussed how he had taken some time off from acting but was set to return to work in September when he would be filming Doctor Sleep. McGregor mentioned the movie would be close to the source material, saying, "Well, it's very faithful to the book, the script. So, I mean if you've read the novel, that's the story we're going to tell." While he doesn't give any plot details away besides the fact that Danny still has psychic powers, Colbert and McGregor joked that viewers could just read the book to find out what will happen in Doctor Sleep. Besides McGregor, the cast for Doctor Sleep seems to be filling out. Alex Essoe and Carl Lumbly will both have roles in the film, playing Wendy Torrance and Dick Halloran, respectively. Zahn McClarnon will also have the role of Crow Daddy and Rebecca Ferguson was recently cast as Rose the Hat. Since Essoe and Lumby appear to be around the same age as Duvall and Scatman Crothers were when they filmed The Shining, Doctor Sleep may be showing flashbacks to Torrance's time at the Overlook Hotel. screenrant.com/doctor-sleep-movie-book-stephen-king-faithful-ewan-mcgregor/

Some of the earlier reports were saying it was going to be a direct adaption of the novel too and I am glad they are going with a movie that is faithful to the original novel 'cause I think it would be a mistake to change it or to make it into a sequel of a movie that wouldn't line up with the events of the 'Doctor Sleep' novel especially the Stanley Kubrick movie which Stephen King has said enough times he hated and thought didn't do justice to the novel. I personally think they should have remade 'The Shinning' with Stephen King writing the script this time and then made 'Doctor Sleep' but I think they can do this without having to do that 'cause it is one of Stephen King's most well known stories and flashback scenes will help. I think Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Fergusson are good choices too and this could turn out to be really good.

The Horror movie genre has long been looked down on and I remember back in the late 80s there were critics saying Horror movies should be banned 'cause they turned people into serial killers and were to blame for a lot of the murderers we had in society which is funny in a way 'cause it wasn't that long ago the Superhero genre was put down a lot too but now it has become popular everybody loves it including some of the very same critics who used to put down superheroes and comic books before. You should definitely check out the 'Puppet Master' movies if you are a Horror fan and like the 'Child's Play' movies. They are one of my favourite Horror movie franchises and I think 'Puppet Master 3, 4 and 5' were the best and own them all on DVD and VHS. Charles Band and his Full Moon have a made a number of franchises I like and 'Subspecies', 'Demonic Toys' and 'Trancers' are some others that are worth checking out.
Have you seen franchises like 'Critters', 'Ghoulies', 'Leprechaun', 'Demons', 'Return of the Living Dead', 'Candy Man', 'Pumpkinhead', 'Ginger Snaps', 'House', 'Phantasm' and 'Basketcase?'

Meh, I found the book incredibly lackluster. If there was one King book to vary from, it's this one. I'll probably wait for it on Netflix.

King fans who have not seen the series Mr Mercedes definitely should check it out. The first season was quite entertaining and will replay beginning next week on the Audience Network with the season 2 premier beginning Aug 22. The show is based on the Bill Hodges trilogy which I also recommend.

"psychic vampires"?
That just doesn't sound good to me...
Why not just keep it all "mysterious" like it was in the first movie?

The horror movie genre has had its ups and downs, but right now I think it's experiencing a high point. You've got critical and commercial successes like the Conjuring, Get Out, It Follows, A Quiet Place, Hereditary, and It among others. Have you seen these films? I have seen all the Child's Play films up to Seed of Chucky and like them all. Unpopular opinion, but I liked Seed of Chucky the most and think it works fin as a horror comedy. There's also going to be a TV series: consequenceofsound.net/2018/06/childs-play-tv-series/I've seen Ghoulies, Critters and Ginger Snaps but I'm not familiar with the rest. I've also seen all 3 Candyman films, and the first is my favorite. I don't think I've seen Return of the Living Dead, though I have seen the Night of the Living Dead (original and remake) and Dawn of the Dead (I will never forget the opening scene with the little girl). The horror franchises I've seen are Wishmaster, Howling (got worse and worse for me), Final Destination (I like these) and the Exorcist sequels. These are apart from the more well known ones like Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween.

I remember reading something that said the next series was going to be different than the novels but I am not sure if that means it is going to be entirely new or still follow the novels with some slight changes.

These are apart from the more well known ones like Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Halloween. Yes. It has. There have been a number of really popular Horror movies over the years that have gone on to become classics of the genre and spawned multiple sequels like ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’, ‘Halloween’, ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, ‘Child’s Play’ and ‘Poltergeist’ but for every classic there is a truly awful movie that should have never been made where vampires' reflections are seen in mirrors, dead bodies are still moving, dead people are seen walking passed the main character later in the movie, characters that hate each other are seen in the background talking to each other and laughing, crew members are visible in the background and reflection of mirrors and my personal favourite, hands appear out of nowhere to give main characters swords with no explanation for where the hand came from. I have seen some really bad Horror movies over the years and covers and descriptions can be very misleading and you can get Horror movies that turn out to be nothing like they were said to be on the boxes but sometimes it is worth going through the bad ones 'cause you find good ones that become your favourites mixed in between them.
There are another two Chucky movies called 'Curse of Chucky' and 'Cult of Chucky' and the TV show is set to continue on to them and without spoiling too much Andy and Kyle finally returned in 'Cult of Chucky' and it looks like the TV show is going to be about the two of them going after Chucky and Tiffany and Brad Dourif's daughter, Fiona Dourif is now in the series. There is a 'Child's Play' remake on the way but a lot of 'Child's Play' fans are not going to see it 'cause MGM has taken it upon themselves to cash in on the success of the latest 2 movies and make a remake while the original series is still going strong with the creators (David Kirschner and Don Mancini) and Brad Dourif and Brad Dourif has put down the remake in interviews and said he will only work on the real series. I personally think it is a dumb time to make a remake and as somebody who has waited a long time to see Andy and Kyle return I am far more interested in the old series.
There are 5 'Return of the Living Dead' movies and the first three are the best in my opinion but 4 and 5 are just a cash in on the name that were made years later and did't resemble the original movies. They are worth checking out and wow, I am surprised you have not seen 'Phantasm.' I urge you to watch those movies 'cause with the exception of the fifth movie 'Phantasm' is one of the best Horror franchises of all time and another I forget to mention is the 'Poltergeist' trilogy. I liked the first three 'Wishmaster' movies and I think they are one of the most underrated Horror franchises of the 90s. Andrew Divoff recently said he wants to return to the franchise for more movies and Robert Englund has said they should be brought back too. I agree with you about 'The Howling' getting worse as it went on and some fans didn't like the third movie (which was filmed here in Australia) but I thought that was okay. Did you know 'The Howling' was based on a novel?

It would probably confuse viewers if they used the 2nd book. Edit. I forgot you have read the first 2 books so you already know what I posted. To answer your question correctly, Season 1 was the first book Mr Mercedes. It was pretty faithful to the book with a few changes. From the previews I've seen of season 2 (or series 2 if you prefer) it will be the story covered in the 3rd book. I liked Finders Keepers but Bill Hodges and the others from Mr Mercedes seemed almost tossed in. Like it was a book King didn't finish and then combined with his Bill Hodges character.

I am missing out on a lot I LOVE the Poltergeist films including the 2015 remake which actually turned out okay to my surprise. I agree the Wishmaster movies are underrated and I've enjoyed all three I've seen. Yes the Howling is based on a book by Gary Brandner, and I read an interview where he expressed his displeasure with Howling II and the rest of the sequels. As someone who has seen a lot of horror films, is there any type you like in particular, i.e. zombie, vampire, horror comedy, religious overtones, slow burn, gory, more dread than horror, etc? Also do you have any favorite horror films that don't belong to a franchise?

Thanks for letting me know about that poelzig. I recently found out some great news about 'Mr Mercedes' which is Season One of the show is going to air on Foxtel here for the first time next month so we won't have to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it here in Australia now and I just started reading 'End of Watch' and should have it finished before the show airs here. I have a lot of Stephen King novels and have seen nearly all the movie and TV show adaptions of them and two shows I really liked were 'Haven' and 'The Dead Zone' and 'Haven' was different than the novel it was based on ('Who Killed the Colorado Kid?') but is worth checking out if you haven't seen it and are a Stephen King fan.

"but for every classic there is a truly awful movie that should have never been made where vampires' reflections are seen in mirrors, dead bodies are still moving, dead people are seen walking passed the main character later in the movie, characters that hate each other are seen in the background talking to each other and laughing, crew members are visible in the background and reflection of mirrors and my personal favourite, hands appear out of nowhere to give main characters swords with no explanation for where the hand came from" OMG can you give examples of these classics? Oh, trust me, you aren't missing out on that much and I am surprised some of the people who make these movies even have jobs in the movie industry with the mistakes they have made but the surprising thing about the Horror genre is you can have writers who make some of the worst movies imaginable that are torn to shred by fans and they still get to make more and it is good in some ways 'cause you can have writers who write garbage and then turn around and write something that is considered a masterpiece and vice versa and I don't think a lot of new writers get the same chances as old writers did but when your resume is full of nothing but bad movies which flop left, right and centre you wonder how they keep getting to write movies and when people ask them what they do for a living they probably tell them they write shit and get paid for it. I don't know if you have seen 'The Way of the Vampire' and 'Dracula's Curse' but those are two movies that have some of the things I mentioned above in them and there is one scene towards the end of 'The Way of the Vampire' where two characters are fighting with each other and a hand comes out of nowhere and gives the lead a sword and they were in a building with nobody else there and it was never explained where the sword came from.
I love the 'Poltergeist' movies too and I was sad the original actress who played Carol Anne passed away so young 'cause from what I heard there were originally plans to make six movies with that actress and 'Poltergeist 4' was going to have Carol Anne as a teenager, 'Poltergeist 5' was going to have Carol Anne in her 20s and 'Poltergeist 6' was going to have Carol Anne in her 30s with her own family and when the actress died they dropped all the sequels instead of replacing her with a different actress out of respect for her memory and for the family of the actress and while I completely understand why they did it at the time I would like to see the other three films and if they try to make 'Poltergeist' again I think they should make it a sequel to 3 with a grownup Carol Anne and use what would have been their ideas for 'Poltergeist 4 and 5.' I didn't think the remake was bad either but it sadly flopped and there were plans to make sequels to that too but they were ultimately dropped. The 'Poltergeist' remake is one of those few that I found enjoyable and there have been a lot of awful Horror remakes but occasionally we get some that are better than the original or enjoyable and I think it was the latter.
I heard Gary Brandner wasn't a fan of 'The Howling' sequels and I don't know if you saw 'The Howling IV: The Original Nightmare' but that movie was based more on the original novel than the first movie but it wasn't well received. Then there was the eighth movie, 'The Howling: Reborn' which was based on 'The Howling II' novel by Gary Brandner and it was meant to serve as a reboot to the series and there were plans to make more movies again but it flopped and the franchise has had a lot of bad luck even though it has had 8 movies and I often wonder how some franchises like that get so many movies that flop when more successful movies that were very popular get knocked back when it comes to the writers wanting to make sequels and the studios are odd with some of their choices. I like a lot of different types of Horror movies and I have seen all the types you mention but I tend to like slasher movies most. I have a lot of favs that aren't part of franchises and some that come to mind are.
