I've been re-watching Wes Anderson one a month as usual, this round is commentaries. May is Fantastic Mr. Fox for me. That's awesome. I had been doing that as well. Went through all my Wes Anderson Criterions over several weeks. lols well, I have been doing this for more than about 2.5 years now. I was in a life funk & I turned to my love of his movies instead of just always youtubing or podcasting. It's just become a thing for me now, just 90 minutes or so a month, & his library is up to 9 films now so the turnover isn't as quick as it seems.

The Stoned Age with director/writer James Melkonian and Co-writer Rich Wilkes. It was an interesting commentary that went into detail on the low budget production such as the choice of using Blue Oyster Cult when they couldn't get the rights to Led Zeppelin. One of the better commentaries especially for an independent comedy movie.

Ray Morton - King Kong (1976). Too often he sounds he is reading from prepared notes but does offer a pretty good listen.

The Hot Spot (1990) [2021 Kino Lorber KL Studio Classics Edition] Commentary: Entertainment journalist and author Bryan Reesman Hits the ground running with his mouth moving a mile a minute, but got used to it after a while (or maybe he slowed down) and was an enjoyable listen. He especially was well-informed about the locations from the film; I can't recall whether he extensively leaned on Google Earth as his source or actually traveled out there to confirm which buildings/businesses/landmarks were still standing. Would have been nice to have gotten William Sadler to do a commentary track of his own, based on his brief interview contribution.
Silent Madness (1984) [2020 Vinegar Syndrome Edition] Commentary: Director Simon Nuchtern, with moderator author Michael Gingold A frustrating listen. Audio disappears so often that I thought the disc was defective and was cutting out. They seemed not to have much to say, so I turned it off after a while. Disc also features a commentary track by The Hysteria Continues! podcast crew, so I will listen to that for the rewatch.

Rick Baker - King Kong (1976) That must be a good one.
It isn’t scene specific as it comes from a presentation Baker did on the film. Still worth a listen, though. He mentions two other actors were hired to play Kong. One of them was the guy on the receiving end of Dirty Harry’s “Do you feel lucky, punk?” speech. The other would later write the screenplay for Blade Runner.

Silent Madness (1984) [2020 Vinegar Syndrome Edition] Commentary: The Hysteria Continues! podcast crew A more disciplined presentation than their podcasts, with less of their usual teasing sexual innuendoes. A fun listen, as they keep up their banter, peppered with various factoids, with only a couple of brief pauses.

THE GIRL ON TRAIN. Director Tate Taylor shared a interesting details about filming from time to time, but for the most part, he would either complement whatever actor was on screen or he would stay silent.

Robocop
Interesting that the crisis team that takes Murphy after being shot was a real emergency response unit. I thought they seemed authentic.
They also delayed showing Robocop in full to avoid people laughing at his introduction.

By his own admission, Verhoeven first threw away the script thinking “It was a piece of shit”.

Yeah, that’s good one. By his own admission, Verhoeven first threw away the script thinking “It was a piece of shit”. And he said he was on Halcyon because he couldn't sleep he was so nervous about making it. And it caused hallucinations and he probably made part of the film under them.

Orgasmo. The cast and crew play a drinking gandy and watch the movie. Sounded more fun on paper. Probably should have played along.
