These days almost all the albums I buy are by obscure bands. I did buy Judas Priest - Firepower (2018), but I can't tell you the last time I bought an album by such a well known band. For examples of the obscure bands I support, see my favorite 2015, 2016-ish and 2017 albums.

If I understand correctly...
Around 1974, four musicians, were working in the US Air Force as "Missileers" (Missile Crew Members)...
Remember those two Air Force guys at the beginning of the movie: WarGames (1983), who were supposed to turn the launch keys? They were Missileers!
...They were stationed at FE Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming... and formed a band called "The Groobers". They wrote and sang parodies about life as Crew Members and their tours of duty in the Nuclear Missile (ICBM) Silos...
SOME of the songs were done like what "Weird Al' Yankovic became famous for...they just wrote new lyrics to existing music! Other songs might have been all new songs, but I can't be sure.
As I understand, they toured several Air Force Bases, and quickly became quite popular among the Airmen and Officers stationed at them.
In 1975, they decided to have an LP Record produced called "Missile Duty's Pleasin'...?" which featured all of their songs.
I'm not sure what happened to "The Groobers" after the LP Record was produced...I can't seem to find any more information on them. They just seem to have disappeared from "History". But, many people who were in the US Air Force at that time, fondly remember the group and their music...
How do I know about this "most obscure band"?
When I was growing up, My Dad was in the US Air Force, and he too, started out as a "Missileer" in the Mid-1970s... The same time, when "The Groobers" were touring the Air Force Bases.
Somehow, he had borrowed an LP Record from someone he knew, and copied the music to his Reel-To-Reel tape recorder, and also copied the music to an 8-Track Tape.
As I was growing up, I frequently found myself listening to "The Groobers" on that 8-Track Tape, either at home, or in the RV/Motorhome, as we were on Vacation or moving to another Air Force Base.
As I grew older and moved away from home, I found I missed listening to the Album...
Eventually, I found an LP Record on Ebay, and purchased it. A friend of mind had a turntable that could connect to a computer, and we copied the music to MP3 Files.
I still have the music on my MP3 Player and listen to the music from time to time.
I understand that some of the songs have been uploaded to YouTube...
Some of you might want to check them out...
But if you are not very familiar with Air Force or "Missileer" terminology, they might not make a lot of sense to you...
Just make sure, that if you look them up... You search for "The Groobers".
Google likes to trying to show search results for "GOOBERS", the candy. LOL!

Other than my own group, Uncle Dodo, I would say 'The Smubbs' and 'Valhalla'.

That I've actively listened to and enjoyed, maybe Langfield Crane.

Now that the world, his wife, and their pet dog have albums out on bandcamp, I don't even know what counts as obscure anymore. I've got physical albums by people I've never heard of, which have no other ratings on rateyourmusic, but I don't know if they're more obscure than online-only things.

Not sure.. I guess not too many people have heard of 'Throbbing Gristle'? I doubt many fans of industrial music haven’t heard of them. Love them.
