Yes, that Grim Reaper album was my 2016 album of the year. That album, as well as those from Rising Steel, Revenge and Iron Mask are all part of an MP3 CD compilation that I been listening to in my car since January 1, 2017.

I gotta pick up that album. I think I mentioned in another thread I got to see them last year touring in support of the new album. Unfortunately the turnout fell short so I'm not sure they'll be back, but they were a bucketlist band that I had to see live at least once and they were awesome.

I haven't seen Grim Reaper live so I envy you. Their new album is well worth the purchase price. There isn't a bad song on it.

Since you like Thornbridge, check out the Winter's Verge album above. For some reason those two albums remind me of each other.

I previously stated that Grim Reaper's "Walking in the Shadows" is my 2016 album of the year, and nothing's dislodged it from that position yet. I haven't purchased any 2017 albums so far.

My latest 2016 release is "Wild Beast Show", the seventh album by Russian power metal band ARIDA VORTEX. The strength of this album got them signed to German label Ice Warrior Records. Their new label is re-releasing "Wild Beast Show" and will also release ARIDA VORTEX's eighth album.

I have no review to quote from, so I'll provide my own. Although I'm not a fan of the two minute instrumental that opens the album, the rest is chock full of catchy and memorable songs. They push the heavy metal envelope a bit with some of their song intros, but thankfully for purists like me, they never stray from the beaten path for too long.

My latest 2016-ish album purchase is "Evil Unseen" by ENVENOMED (Australia). I found "Evil Unseen" a refreshingly melodic take on the thrash metal genre.

Craig Rider at the Metal Temple gives the album a perfect 10/10 rating and writes:

I realize it's a stretch to call this next album "2016-ish", since it was originally released in 2003. But "Diary in Black" by RAWHEAD REXX flew under my radar until now, and is simply too good not to list here. I think the fact this album is still in print (at reasonable prices), after all this time, speaks volumes as to its quality.

Marty at Metal Reviews gives the album an 84/100 rating and writes:

This album has all the elements for a great heavy metal album: great big fat riffs, killer fast and melodic lead guitar, pounding double bass drumming, a killer bottom end and a great vocalist. It's great to see bands like this carrying on in the Judas Priest Painkiller tradition of metal that was firmly implanted on the metal world with that album. Diary In Black is the type of album to put on full blast while driving in your car. Not only are the songs great and well written, it has that killer "sounds amazing in the car" type of sound. Some dismiss this type of metal as being not very original and of being shallow and superficial. Granted, it doesn't sound very original, but this is pure fist-pumping heavy metal, nothing more, nothing less and there will always be a place for bands like this provided they do it well....... and they do a killer job indeed......

SAVAGE MASTER's "Myth, Magic and Steel" was one of my favorite 2019 albums, and my latest 2016 album purchase is their previous album and sophomore release, "With Whips and Chains".

When I listened to "With Whips and Chains" for the first time, I recognized many songs from this video of SAVAGE MASTER - Live at Sanctuary, Detroit, 8/16/19 (MULTICAM!). Since I watched that video only once, more than a year ago, that tells you a lot about how memorable the tracks on this album are!

Robert Williams at Metal-Rules.com gave the album a perfect 5/5 rating and wrote:

The metal is true to form and instantly addictive. Massive hooks that sink into your flesh and command you to bang your head...
