Here are my favorite albums released in 2024, and I've linked to a sample song from each album. P.S. Here are my favorite 2015, 2016-ish, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 albums. I look forward to your commentary and your contributions. IRON CURTAIN - Savage Dawnwww.youtube.com/watch?v=tbYzQBrQ6kg (Sample Song) www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWmjYotBjhw (Full Album) Country of origin: Spain, Formed in: 2007, Genre: Speed/Thrash/Heavy Metal For more information: www.metal-archives.com/bands/Iron_Curtain/3540291490My inaugural 2024 purchase is "Savage Dawn" by IRON CURTAIN. I had previously heard their albums "Road to Hell" (2012) and "Jaguar Spirit" (2013), but wasn't sufficiently impressed to buy either one. However, as a piece of paper inside the CD shrink wrap notes, "The fifth album presents the Spanish metal maniacs more powerful, professional and heavy than ever." And indeed, "Savage Dawn" made me open my wallet. Behind the Veil webzine gives the album 8/10 and wrote:

Judas Priest released Invincible Shield 2 months ago, in early March. Not bad, but probably not as good as 2014's Redeemer of Souls, and certainly not as good as 2018's Firepower.

Judas Priest released Invincible Shield 2 months ago, in early March. Not bad, but probably not as good as 2014's Redeemer of Souls, and certainly not as good as 2018's Firepower. I saw Judas Priest on their "Invincible Shield" tour exactly a week ago, as noted here and here. They played "Panic Attack", "Crown of Horns", and the title track, from their new album at the show. So far, I have yet to listen to the "Invincible Shield" album in its entirety. The main reason I put it on the back burner is that I compile MP3 CDs to listen to in my car. When completing my latest compilation (mostly 2022 and 2023 albums), I only had enough room for one album of about 42 minutes. And depending on which edition you buy, "Invincible Shield" is either 52:32 or 01:03:33. So, I went shopping for a shorter album, and instead purchased "Savage Dawn" from IRON CURTAIN (clocking in at just over 38 minutes). The second reason I have yet to listen to the "Invincible Shield" album in its entirety, is that, as you noted, it's simply not as compelling as "Firepower". That 2018 release, metaphorically speaking, grabbed me by the throat and said, "You will buy this album." By contrast, "Invincible Shield", metaphorically speaking, waved at me and said, "Hi, I'm a new Priest album, maybe you'd like to buy me." And my response has been, "Yeah, maybe, I'll get back to you on that."

Yeah, I saw them a couple days ago and they performed those same songs from the new album. I must admit that although I initially wasn't that impressed with "Panic Attack", it has grown on me. As for the title track, is it just me, or was anyone else reminded of "Too Bad to Be True" by OZ from 1984?

I assume cars nowadays would also take a USB stick to read music from. You're probably correct that new cars would be able to read music from a USB stick, but my car that doesn't offer that option. Also, my car is not the only place where I listen to music. Another key location is my basement where I have my stereo equipment and my exercise equipment. I listen to the new CDs I buy down there while I work out. A USB stick is not an option there either. Finally, I think it's important to support the bands you love by purchasing their albums - particularly those young, up-and-coming bands that will carry on the tradition when the originators of this style, like Priest, are no longer with us. For example, in my 2023 album thread, I featured Nightwolf, who in their own words are a "Brazilian Heavy Metal band influenced by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Dio, and many others." I believe that any fan of Judas Priest would love Nightwolf. I knew after literally two seconds, that I was listening to something special. I have reproduced the relevant portion of my 2023 album thread below.
