Who would be the actor or actress that was the greatest at singing and dancing and acting?
They probably should have a top-selling recording,
Perhaps won an Oscar?
Be well-known for their dance routines.
And we will throw in comedic ability as well.
Does someone come out on-top?

I don't think there is one person who can be singled out as being the greatest singer/dancer/actor of all time, that would be tough!
Fred and Gene were the best dancing men, not so great in the singing and acting departments. Sorry, can't come up with anyone else!

I am leaning heavily towards Judy Garland, she had all the gifts.
As far as actors taking into account all the factors together, I would have to say James Cagney, certainly a gifted actor and dancer and could do comedy and sang quite well for the stage.
Vaudeville probably had alot to do with the vast talents of these two stars.
Doris Day is in there somewhere, definitely the singing and the comedy and dancing, and a fairly good actress.
It's tough to balance them out, take Frank Sinatra for example, singing- legend, Oscar-winning performance in From Here To Eternity, could do light comedy, but not really known for his dancing?

I agree with those who have mentioned Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and James Cagney. They could do just about everything.
But I would like to bring up Julie Andrews. She is an amazing talent.

Male contenders
Fred Astaire - dancing 10. Singing - don't underrate his singing .He sold millions of records and the great Bway composers loved for Fred to debut their music, because of his no frills voice and clear reading of the lyric. Acting - he was awfully good in On the Beach and Ghost story.
Gene Kelly - Dance 10. Singing - thin but pleasant and effective. Acting - thought he was underwhelming in straight films.
Bing Crosbie- dance- clumsy but he could hoof a little and learn routines. Singing -10 Acting - his Oscar for going my way was romantic comedy but he had good drama roles in which he was very effective. I like little boy Lost.
Frank Sinatra- singing 10. Dancing - Kelly taught him and he could do more than just hoof. He moved well . Acting - very effective in comedy and drama with Manchurian Candidate a career high.
Russ Tamblyn- Dancing - well he may have started as a gymnast but he did Jerome Robbins choreography in West Side Story Acting - Oscar nominated for his role in Payton Place as a sensitive teen. Singing - pleasant effective voice
Sammy Davis Junior- singing - big full voice , commanded many styles sold millions of records Dancing- commonly acknowledged as one of the greats from tge golden age of Tap. The challenge he performed shortly before his death with Gregory Hines is spectacular. Acting- never got the chances he should have had because of race. He was always good but had a tendency to overplay. Unlike Sinatra, he was highly disciplined and could have done more .
Judy Garland - Singing 10 Acting - her Oscar nominated roles in Star is Born and Judgement at Nuremberg were the tip of the iceberg. Unlimited possibilities . Dancing - very effective with Mickey, gene and Fred. Always looked a little clumsy with a partner but did more than hold her own.
Debbie Reynolds - acting 9 I can never take her seriously in dramatic moments. Too much Shirley Temple comes through. In comedy she is as good as they come. I'm sorry she missed the age of screwball comedy she would have been great. Singing- well her marriage to Eddie Fisher blew up when her recording of Tammy went Gold. Not too shabby. Dancing- she was more athletic than a dancer but after Gene Kelly got through with her, I dare anyone to say she couldn't dance. Good Mornin from Singing in the Rain was good for anyone
Rita Moreno -Acting 10 played comedy drama equally Dancing -see West Side Story. The dance assistants say she was pretty rusty when they began rehearsals . All the more remarkable that she gave such such a thrilling performance . Singing- as far as I know, always dubbed.

Ooo yeah Cagney and Julie Andrews. Too bad she couldn't do more films that utilized her skill at British music hall comedy.

I may be one of the few people who really loved "Star⭐️" with Julie Andrews. Believe it or not, my 8th grade English teacher took us on a field trip to see it during the road show run at the Fox Wiltshire in LA. He also took us to Universal Studios, which made him a pretty cool guy. He borrowed some of my movie books from me.

Sammy Davis, something to consider there as well, should we also place Mickey Rooney and Rita Hayworth in the running? Two supreme talents that could cross over easily enough, And Rita did comedy- I should take a really good look at her comedic roles sometimes. You still have yet to decide, the lifetime award goes to?

Gene Kelly is the obvious answer, but Donald O'Connor gets overlooked a lot, he could really get his freak on, man!

...should we also place Mickey Rooney and Rita Hayworth in the running? You still have yet to decide, the lifetime award goes to? Rooney was astonishingly talented, although he had a tendency to overplay dramatics after his Andy Hardy years; with proper directorial restraint, he could be quite good (as in Requiem For A Heavyweight or The Black Stallion). Hayworth never did her own singing, so that lets her out of the "triple threat" brigade. I lean towards Garland: as singer or actor (either comedic or dramatic) she can't be beat; as a dancer she was fine, but her prodigious natural ability may have been her biggest drawback in that area. About 35 years ago, Gene Kelly told me that she could watch a dance routine run through once and know it cold, executing every step on her first try. But by the time she worked with taskmasters like Kelly or Astaire, her clout at MGM was such that she could get away with less rehearsal than they could demand with other partners. As Kelly said, "Nobody could make Judy do anything unless she was ready to do it." But he maintained tremendous admiration for her, adding that, "She was able to take something from every performer she worked with, and to give something to them too."

...for dancing, Eleanor Powell was second to none...!!!

There is something about Eleanor Powell’s dancing that I find uncomfortable. The only film I really like is Broadway melody of 1940. Of course her Begin the Beguine is as good as it gets. Astaire admired her tap skill enormously.
It’s something about the goofy way she threw her legs around. I wish she had danced more with really top notch choreographers. I think she could have done anything they planned. Her singing and acting weren’t top notch so I don’t see her as a threat to Garland Astaire or Garland.
Ginger Rogers wasn’t much of a dancer without astaire( see Stage Door) . Her voice was barely passible but she made the best of it. Her acting of course was out standing , despite her over eagerness to prove her dramatic chops.
Nanette Fabray? Wonderful singer, acceptable dancer and terrific comic actress?
Shirley MacLaine? Didn’t have a lot of dancing in film but she did a fabulous TV special in which she held her own with Fosse choreography. Her voice was a comicc voice but she was good in the roles she had. Of course à fine comic and dramatic actress.

Gene Kelly is the obvious answer, but Donald O'Connor gets overlooked a lot, he could really get his freak on, man! Agree, Gene Kelly was a better dancer than Fred Astaire, and had more charm
