Didn't particularly like the 1st one so yeah, I'm definitely skipping this one all together . Denzel is freaking 63 years old. Him & Liam Neeson need to stop making action films . Denzel yes, Liam NEVER I liked Liam even in the (oh so bad) Commuter. Its his voice though. That does it for me.

You were right. This movie was boring!!! It had cool atmosphere though. The last scene in the hurricane was awesome.

Im still excited. Better such movies, than this boring superhero bullshit. Uh oh someone doesen’t like good movies. Either you are too young to understand what good movies are, or you are the most naive person in the universe if you think, superhero movies are good.

interesting. I have met people like that before. Its not what I would say but I guess I get it. For me Equalizer 1 had too much of the social undertones (oh what a good and caring person he is and what good he does for troubled youth and community) and they went full retard with this subplot this time. Whereas Wick is just a retired assassin forced to go back but never tries to convince us he thinks or we should really think he is a good person. Plus the music and camera were still better in John Wick 2 than Equalizer 1 I would say. I get why the IMDB rating would be higher, Denzel does have a lot of charisma and he IS a great actor. And ther are 2 scenes that area really well done. but they are unique in a 120 minute movie thats full of "look at what a good person with a good heat this killing machine is" what burgs me the most is that they only use the watch/time speeding/slowing trick a few times here, where to me that was the most appealing part of Equalizer. As of now the rating has moved up. It's 7.2 now. IMDb ratings influence me a lot. As long as it stays above 7, there's every chance I'll watch it. As viewers we just couldn't shake of the fact that Denzel is a good guy in The Equalizer 1. To a lesser degree we felt the same about Keanu. We were rooting for these guys. The camera works were clearly better in the John Wick movies. Everything about them was slick. Besides, Keanu has more style and looks a better fighter than Denzel. I really liked the music in John Wick 1. Since I have OCD, I felt empathy and could relate more to Denzel's character in that aspect. Like you, I found the wrist watch sequences fascinating in The Equalizer 1.

Actually it wasn't so terrible. It just wasn't what I expected. And i was partially feeling the old man vibe to it. It was kinda like when van dammed tried to go all soft in nowhere t0 run.

But there were just too many other plot lines focusing on other things than him kicking ass. I thin thats what made it boring for me.

Agreed, it was terrible. I can't believe Fuqua and Denzel teamed up and gave us something this awful. It's like they had three bad scripts and couldn't decide which one to use, so they fused them all into one movie. At least we still have the first one.

I think there could be one good short movie there if a lot of it was edited out Agreed. They should've started the movie with the killing in Brussels and made it clear this was the main plot right from the get go. Kill Susan earlier in the film and have McCall have to fight more than just four guys to resolve it. The B plot with the kid just didn't work. That could've been it's own movie as well, with McCall having to intervene with a gang turf war or something.
A gang turf war seems like a story big enough for McCall to get involved. Instead he beats up a few dudes, grabs the kid and walks away! He spends the whole movie preaching to him and it's just silly that those guys never come looking for revenge. And don't even get me started on the old guy wraparound storyline. If ever there was a pointless story beat in a film, that was it. Totally unnecessary, we already know MCCall is a good guy who helps people. There are two different plot lines showing us this, as well as the opening sequence.
Due to Denzel's popularity (wouldn't you watch him do just about anything?) as well as the popularity of the first Equalizer, this movie surprisingly won the BO this weekend. I expect a huge dropoff in week 2 as fans like us unfortunately have to spread negative word of mouth.

What a bummer. You can skip the first hour and will not have missed ANYTHING good. that is if you saw the first one. You can sit in the cinema and fall asleep during the second hour and will not have missed anything REALLY good. I advise you to wake up for the final minute as that has some value to it, albeit its probably not what you would expect the final scene of this movie to be. To be fair - it has one good fight scene, toward the end, that has a cool atmosphere that is a bit like the Silence of the Lambs final act atmosphere, but everything before that is boring to stupid. Completely lost all its sex appeal from the first part. Now its just a generic "really good killer vs some slightly bad but still very good killer" movie, that happens to have 3 good actors in it. Oh well. Maybe next time Denzel. 3.5/10 from me. What did everybody else think? Not that good at all. I didn't see the first one and saw this last night on a giant screen. It started off ok, but as it progressed it started to degenerate. I found the presentation jarring, uninteresting and yes, often boring. It had trite dialogue and the showoffy camera work that had no real meaning or grounded context to it, other than to impress. If the substance isn't reflecting in the style, the end result will be ultimately hollow. The kid in it couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, Denzel was a brooding bore and I really don't get the overall point of the film. It was all over the place.
I was thinking of Eli Roth's Death Wish while watching it, from earlier on in the year. Both films had a similar theme, however, Roth's film was made with no pretense about itself and didn't make itself out to be more than it wasn't. It was a well made B grader, this one was B grader which tried to deceive us with some phony spit and polish. I didn't really connect with it at all.
yeah for those who had NOT seen the first one this one can be :ok: to even mildly good. Its just a big downgrade from the last one.

I don't mind Superhero movies I enjoy them but they are overflooding the Big screen and Small screen. films like Skyscraper. Equalizer 2. and Mission Impossible Fall Out are a welcomed reprieve from all of the superhero films. even if they aren't good

Let me try and gauge your level of bias in this, did you like the first one? I'm trying to gauge how well your opinions could align or differ from mine. Knowing if you hated the first or whether you really liked the first one will help me gauge as to whether I'd expect your opinion to reflect mine. I liked the first film.....even though he's like 55 years old (a 25-30 year old assassin would be more believable)....I enjoyed the original.

I liked it. I expected an action-packed thriller like the first one, and it certainly wasn't that, but it was still plenty entertaining in a low-key way.
