To be clear, I'm not defending Gunn's past sense of humor. Some of what he said was awful, and had I known about those things I would have thought he was a jerk too. But I believe him when he says that he's sorry, and that he's a different person now, and that he wasn't "living' those statements. And I think firing him from the franchise that he made so popular is over kill.
Marvel/Disney was perfectly fine hiring him in the first place and letting him make them 2 of their most popular and money making movies. They should have helped him make his apology and stood by him. Both the far right and the far left have gotten out of control. We need to bring things back to the center a.s.a.p. Reason has to prevail, not extreme reaction.
I agree, especially with the comment about how bad both sides of the political spectrum. But i'm not going to lie, i REALLY fucking the right. Like you have no idea how angry i get at those fucking assholes. But yeah we should encourage giving people a chance at redemption, but giving how we're living in a outrage culture, i unfortunately don't see it happening anytime soon. |

Well, Gunn didn't think all that stuff will come back to bite him one day. The whole thing is quite understandable and Marvel/Disney knew how this was a bad look on their hands. The whole issue wouldn’t have bothered me this much if this wasn’t started by a Pizzagater named Mike Cernovich. Yeah, that too. I don't understand how this is a debate. It isn't even about whether or not you personally find his jokes distasteful. The guy made rape and pedophilia jokes in a public venue and now he's in charge of family friendly entertainment for Disney? There's no way they can keep him on and look parents in the eye, they had to get rid of him.
Everything about this sucks. The guy that dug this stuff up is a creep, I hate that it's somehow a political issue (isn't everything these days?), and some of these comments are a decade old; but none of that changes anything. Disney, DISNEY is not going to keep a guy on who made jokes about kids touching his 'silly parts.' He's gone and the MCU has to move on.
I'm just curious to see what the future of the MCU will look like, since it was supposed to be leaning heavily on the cosmic stuff that Gunn was in charge of.
