No question what James Gunn tweeted years ago was sick and offensive. That said, I want to know if you could go back in time and prevent him from getting hired by Marvel to direct Guardians of the Galaxy, would you? The consequence of doing so would undo Guardian of the Galaxy's mega success and potentially hand it over to an incapable director.

Probably not because I don't have a attachment to the source material.
I do like that his guardian films triggered the fuck out of the the more radical comic fanbase.

NOPE! He's the one who made the GOTG franchise what it is. Period.
He had the foresight to believe a movie with a talking raccoon and walking tree as main characters could actually be appealing, he had the foresight to cast Chris Pratt who at the time was a chubby shlub on Parks and Rec (Pratt OWES his career to that casting decision 100%), he had the foresight to include 70s music to such great effect, and he had the foresight to turn a super hero movie of unknown characters into a sci-fi epic with heart and humor. This is all him. And then he did it again for Vol. 2.
I had my doubts about both him and Pratt, but I've eaten my words and give kudos where they're due.
He made terrible jokes, but as far as we know he did not make terrible ACTIONS. One is stupid and unfortunate, the other is a crime. There's a difference.
Marvel/Disney and all yall's turning your backs on him now are hypocrites.

He made terrible jokes, but There is no but. Hes a public figure and with a big following. He has to pay the price. Gotta laugh at all these people who feel sorry for him. The guy is alredy a multi millionaire, spare the tears.

I certainly hope you never make a joke that gets you fired. Good luck casting stones.
Just to be clear, it's not him specifically that I feel bad for. Its the notion that we now live in a society where ANYone could be ruined because of jokes. and I mean anyone. Who knows, maybe one day it could you and me!
I dislike Roseanne Barr for personal reasons, but even with her recent issues I thought firing her and cancelling the show was over kill, and I think this is over kill too. In the #metoo movement the people accused actually DID something, but in this case we're talking about jokes, not actions. Awful and offensive jokes to be sure, but just jokes after all.

for supporting such an disgusting guy. Who says I'm supporting him? Saying that he hasn't done enough to get fired is not the same thing as saying I encourage what he did. If I fired every employee I had who did something in their younger years that I disagreed with I'd probably end up firing 90% of my staff.

Hello, There is an alert in the news service about the firing thing. Actually, I do not know what sad 'joke' achieved that, and I'm not about to look up. Save for negating the haulocast, which is forbidden by law here, there is no police for thoughts, and being a cretin is not a crime. You'll just hurt yourself, someday. As long as people are not forced to share poor taste in humor, so be it. When a tv show is crappy, people can turn the set off. When a joke is crappy, people can not laugh. Not when you ask, was the gardians a good show ,did we like it? I watched a dvd which was buggy, so I did not saw the whole thing. Imho it was far less bad than every each issue of avengers. Though... Without the jokes and the music, there's not much interest. Till later, T
