I'm pretty sure a PG-13 movies can have 2 F words, as long as they're not used sexually. For example, Ocean's Eleven has 2 F words and it's still PG-13. As Good As It Gets has 3, but I think the official "rule" is one. I always forget that's PG-13. It also has some partial nudity.

I think it's safe to say that the MPAA has made some odd choices here and there. It seems to me that Insidious follows the PG-13 rules though. I think The Dark Knight is more deserving of an R-rating than Insidious and The Dark Knight doesn't even have an F-word. I don't remember the specifics of The Conjuring enough to make a comparison.
I haven't seen Insidious, but I remember reading The Conjuring was rated R just because it was scary. It doesn't really have any language, violence, or sexual content that would warrant and R rating. So basically The Conjuring should have been rated PG-13.

I remember the movie "Be Cool" joking around about the limits of F-word usage in a PG-13 film.

I am pretty sure the only reason Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo is rated R is because it is about a gigolo. The movie has no nudity and no F-words as far as I remember.
Psycho (1960) was given an R-rating in 1984 and I don't think that rating is warranted.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is another one that is rated R, but I think should be PG-13/

In the context of the OP, PG means pretty good.

The Matrix movies. They're rated R, but they're PG-13 movies at the most. They're isn't even any F bombs or explict gore. The Dark Knight trilogy is more violent, and that's PG-13.

Sinbad & the Eye of the Tiger.
It was Rated G and had all kinds of violence and some nudity of smokin' hot 70's women.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - People shot in the face, melting faces, exploding heads, chopped up by airplane propeller, impaled by ancient booby traps.

Star Wars was rated U (the lowest rating) in the UK despite the severed arm, burnt out skeletons and that bone crunching sound effect near the beginning. The latter still makes me squirm a little.
E.T. was also a U but had some (mild) expletives and the Uranus joke.
The '70s, before the PG-13 (in the uk, 12) rating was introduced - were way more lenient, with the likes of Jaws and Bad News Bears getting away with a lot more than they would have just a few years later.

The blood made the difference. Plus Matrix Reloaded has an Zion orgy that had boobage & nipplage. The producers wanted an R movie and made sure there was just enough to get it.

Superman: The Movie (1978) features child nudity. Always forget that until I watch it and think--jeez, big budget child pornography for the whole family.
But technically he's an alien so maybe it doesn't count.

I realize you are joking to an extent, but child nudity IS innocent and non-sexual. Only a pervert would see child nudity in a sexual way.
