Sony has so many options for a hero in a Spider-verse without Peter Parker leading it or showing up that it's ridiculous. All those Spider-girls (including Gwen), Miles, and even Ben Reilly. I mean, Into the Spider-Verse is really helping them in establishing characters.

They could use all the characters, including Spider-Man, in a multiverse setting --- and leave 616 Spider-Man in the MCU.

If they make good movies they can do it! Venom is not the best they can do and already they have the beginnings of something. With an 80 mill domestic/ 200 mill world opening weekend I think its fair to say they aint doing too shabby already. Its possible. I'd already like to see a Venom sequel.

They're diluting the brand and over-saturating the market. The price to pay for this "fun" outing is the hastening of the demise of the genre. I get it, Spider-Man is practically propping up their entire studio. They can play in their multiverse sandbox but, they can't deny Marvel Studios access to the same characters. All Venom's success demonstrates is that if you put a Marvel logo in front of it, you're more likely than not to have a hit on your hands. General audiences don't get the difference between Sony Marvel and MCU Marvel. It's too easy to sucker them into a seat under false pretenses. That's okay though. They will learn. We will teach them. Hee hee hee...

If only they could go back in time and simply continue the iconic Spiderman series they had ten years ago, saving us from these inferior reboots and spin offs.

Including the MCU rebooting Spiderman for the second time in a decade and inevitably rebooting X Men for the second time in a decade...

Sony can get another actor or drag one of the old timers out of retirement and have a go. We'll keep Holland. Both Studios can do competing Spider-Man films and we'll let general audiences see which ones they like better.

I won't be seeing Venom or any of their Spiderverse movies. But I also don't have much love for the Homecoming series, though I do like Holland in the role. For me, on screen Spidey died with Spiderman 3.

The MCU deserves full access to the Marvel toy box, if people don't like what they're doing with something, they can skip that installment or the entire franchise (for all I care). I'm for the reunification of all Marvel IP under one steward. And, I don't care who that is so long as they're competent and well capitalized.

The inevitable addition of the X Men makes me nervous though. I'm fine with a new Spidey in the Avengers movies. I can skip his solo outings if I dislike them. But the X Men will probably dominate the whole cinematic universe once they show up. I am not looking forward to that. I've seen enough X Men movies already.

Don't worry - Disney execs don't get their business degrees via correspondence from prison. They know the X IP is deeply overexposed. X-Men will have a radically different orientation under the MCU and a slow-as-molasses roll out. I don't think they'd do something as shit-for-brains dumb as say, develop a Kraven the Hunter film where he goes on his 'last Hunt' in his first movie.

Maybe bring them out in phase five. I do however, want a Fantastic Four movie in the MCU ASAP!

IF they can make good movies. I think they will go the way of the DCEU. Shaky foundations, patchy quality, and eventually the audience will lose faith and not turn out, as with Justice League. PG-13 Morbius, Kraven and Venom films does not fill me with confidence (and Venom was terrible in many other ways).

Same here and, we'll get one that sees them as explorers and problem solvers rather than traumatized hipsters or dull paper cut outs.
