He didn't have that boyish innocence that Mark Hamill had.

Too cynical and cowboy-y. Luke needs to start innocent, and Ford doesn't do innocent.

Nah. I love the guy, but he's too gruff and - as CK100 mentioned earlier - lacks that much needed boyish innocence.

Who can say... Although I suspect if he was acting at playing the young innocent farm boy, whilst being much younger himself, he may well have acted the part differently from playing the cynical, older character he did play.
The director may well have said to him - you need to play this young, innocent boy who's about to embark on a life changing adventure as a young, innocent kid rather than an older, more cynical space cowboy.

This was Harrison Ford 5 years prior to Star Wars! He just doesn't have the naive boyish look even back then. Can't imagine him saying "But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!"

If he was 5-10 years younger at the time? NO, this is a dumb question.

Is everyone here a bubble boy who has idea of even what acting is?
Actors act. That's their job. Yet there are always these geeks who think certain actors can only play certain roles.
Dumbest question of the day here. Of course he could play Luke, unless he couldn't act. Cripes, it isn't even stage acting with one take on a scene on stage. He does something un-Luke, they reshoot the scene.
Have any of you ever been in Theater for one production?

“Tuskens. Why’d it have to be Tuskens?”
Seriously—no, obviously (can anyone see Ford saying the Skywalker dialogue?—I’m particularly thinking of inside the hut with Alec Guinness), but it would have been hilarious.

drystyxOf course actors "act" BUT there are just some parts that are physically wrong for a certain actor. Picture IF you can Don Knotts as Don Corleone sure.. He could have said the lines but would it have "worked' ?
Same with Ford as Luke.
NOT the same "argument" as Tom Selleck vs Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. They are the Same "type" and they would have been different Indys but they both would have "worked".
BTW .. "bubble-boying" and "geeking" and "dumb calling" dilutes your credibility somewhat. (imo)

You might as well be asking if he could put on blackface and make a good Lando Calrissian.
