And what about Michael Hordern as Admiral Ackbar?
He was El Cid's father. I could envision him shouting "It's a trap!" with a Shakespearean flair.

drystyx Of course actors "act" BUT there are just some parts that are physically wrong for a certain actor. Picture IF you can Don Knotts as Don Corleone sure.. He could have said the lines but would it have "worked' ?
Same with Ford as Luke.
NOT the same "argument" as Tom Selleck vs Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. They are the Same "type" and they would have been different Indys but they both would have "worked".
BTW .. "bubble-boying" and "geeking" and "dumb calling" dilutes your credibility somewhat. (imo) Just wishing that acting isn't acting doesn't make it correct. All the incoherent babbling from you and your lynch mob doesn't change reality. It just makes you prove my point. Actors act. That's their job. If you bubble boys can't handle it, then you're simply control freaks, and you want to control things that you aren't provoked one iota to control, so you're bubble boys, pure and simple, and deserve no respect for being that insane.

Must be some sort of invisible writing that you are reading that I cannot see because NONE of us have said anything to provoke this sort of outburst. Ford would have been physically WRONG to play Luke Skywalker IN OUR OPINIONS … case closed . All of your yelling and abusive verbiage won't change that ! NO amount of "acting" would make Don Knotts a credible Godfather ! Lynch mob … only things I can do is at that ! Sorry, but my schedule for dealing with crazy is currently filled .. get in line !

Did I miss something ? This was a fun thread and suddenly this drystyx is yelling at JUST me and quoting and being nutzoid, imo. Anyone even know what a bubble -boy is supposed to be ? or where the "lynch mob" and "control freaks" attacks are coming from and should anyone seriously care ?

I have to say no, but it is only due to his voice being too low. Even though we've heard Mark Hammill get his growl on for the Joker, he typically is not speaking at the bottom of his range. In "A New Hope" he's speaking quite on the high side (though it was only whiny to me when he was worried about those power converters). By "Return of the Jedi" he's speaking average to lower.
Ford has a great baritone plus he speaks near the bottom of his range in many of his roles. Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Christopher Lee, Clint Eastwood and countless others do the same. I think Ford could play the part just fine, but the optimism in his voice would seem out of place. Sort of like Mark Walhberg in "The Happening." His voice isn't particularly low, but when he spent the entire movie speaking higher than you'd normally hear him, it seemed like less of a natural performance.
Also, I'd take an alternate universe version of Admiral Ackbar portrayed by Burt Young.

He didn't have that boyish innocence that Mark Hamill had. WHOMP, there it is....

IF the role of Luke Skywalker as written and filmed is THE LUKE SKYWALKER and the only Luke Skywalker .. NO .. Harrison Ford would / could not successfully have played him AS WRITTEN. (imo) It would be essential for him to be presented as a completely different type of character and type of person for Harrison Ford to have successfully played Luke Skywalker. (imo)
BUT that being done, Hans Solo would also have to be re-written so as to not have two Harrison Ford type characters as co-most-important-characters. (until Admiral Ackbar comes along and changes all that !) (imo)
