Ha! Well, I certainly can relate to that. It is definitely why I just adore William Castle movies, because they are so atmospheric, but completely cozy and non-threatening. Mr. Castle is the Agatha Christie of horror films. For example, I cannot watch the "Saw" movies at all because they are just too much for me. Ditto "Hostel" or just about anything that comes out today. (Though I can't wait to see the new "Halloween", though that is only because of JLC return as Laurie Strode.) I don't even want to watch "American Horror Story". The most intense director I can enjoy is Dario Argento. But he was in a class all by himself. His murder set pieces are like gorgeous nightmares. In his prime, he could do some really breathtaking stuff. That’s me in a nutshell as well, dirtypillows. I can’t watch Saw, or Hostel, or American Horror Story. I just can’t. Which stinks when people tell me how good they are (except Hostel), etc., etc., and I have to make up excuses or be honest and say I’m a wimp! Anything with gore turns me off. It’s not terror, it’s not even horror, it’s just revulsion. How superior is the Hitchcockian approach of showing nothing and letting the mind play tricks. (Though I’m also looking forward to this new Halloween, by the way.) I should probably take a look at more Argento stuff. I’ve seen a lot of Bava, whose work I really enjoy. I love Mario Bava! Love, love, love the man! He is my favorite film director, along with William Castle. He is to color what WC is to b&w! If I could somehow get Mario's 60's giallos to inhabit my dreams, I would never need to wake up! I could eat "Blood and Black Lace" for dessert for the rest of my life.

Sigh, all the jump scares of Green Goblin from the first Spider-Man movie. Now you’re gonna laugh at me

That's a photo of one from Classic Who.
They looked much better. Less rubbery...

Oh, Gameboy, I love me some Karen Black. She could make me laugh, cry and shudder. She was an excellent actress and very under-appreciated. I just watched "The Pyx" last night. She was cool, spooky irony personified. Ahhh, the depths... Have you seen "Day of the Locusts"?
Well, I can't say if I saw the movie in its entirety, but I do know that I definitely saw the ending. That little girl-boy was a royal brat and I felt no sympathy for her. I've heard it's a very good movie, though. I think it was a novel first and sometimes it gets compared to "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?", which I did see and loved. Was Karen good in the movie?

Yeah, she was great. It's based on the book by the same name. It was good to see her playing Mother Firefly in the Rob Zombie movies. I never saw "House of 1000 Corpses". But Karen seemed to love to work. She was in a lot of stuff. My favorite performances of hers are "Come Back to the 5&10, Jimmy Dean" and "Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?", where she gets a chance to use her beautiful singing voice. Her singing voice had a very unique sound to it.

Karen Black was a very exotic beauty, very unique looks. Yes, I did see "The Devil's Rejects" and it was well-done, but exceedingly unpleasant and mean-spirited. I will never watch it again. Absolutely agree with what you said about Karen Black's looks. I think she was most beautiful in "Portnoy's Complaint". And I don't like utilizing cliches, but KB really did become the character she was playing. In her acting she had depth, intensity, imagination and amazing range. Just look at her in the second segment of "Trilogy of Terror", playing the two sisters. Wow. Actually, she ran the gamut in all three segments and had everybody fooled.

I should go back and check up on the classics. It's about a Jewish boy's sexual hangups. It's quirky and I've never been a big fan of Richard Benjamin, but it does have two of my favorite actresses in it, Karen and Lee Grant.
