QueenB I like your avatar dogs because they aren't wearing stupid hats or other people clothes and because they look like awesome dogs .. and this coming from a cat person is a great compliment ! No, none of my dogs would ever stand for that. Once I tried to put reindeer antlers on their heads for Christmas and they weren't having any of that. I get why some people put on a dog sweater in the winter but my dogs have all been big dogs with a double coat and don't need it plus it would be hard to find a sweater in their size. And yes, they are awesome dogs and I love cats too.

I have to admit I really enjoyed INTERSTELLAR. For me, it's up there with the likes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, BLADE RUNNER, CONTACT, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951), GATTACA, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, THE MARTIAN, METROPOLIS and so on and so forth.
And I would imagine my avatar is a publicity photo of him as the Bandit from the first film in the trilogy, SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (1977).
Interstellar was unforgettable and thrilling, especially towards the end. Of the films you mentioned, I've seen and liked 2001: A Space Odyssey, Contact & Gattaca. I've also seen the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still which contrary to popular opinion, I liked. The Martian is on my Watchlist. I never knew that 2001: A Space Odyssey had a sequel.

They're very enjoyable, but I personally refer the RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA series of four novels.

Marv - You have an appreciation for Sorsha from Willow (1988) and I know in the past you’ve said you also liked Antje Traue’s Faora from Man of Steel (2013) – these might be two somewhat ‘obscure’ characters to focus on, but it’s always nice to meet someone else who knows what you’re talking about when you mention someone who seemingly not many people have heard of. I’ve seen posts of yours I like and agree with too. twothousandonemark – You’re another poster whose knowledge about different subjects ensures I always check out your posts that I see. You mention things I would’ve, but also bring my attention to stuff I was unaware of and introduce me two these new things (whether they be photos from movies or just random facts about things). I find your posts to be well-composed, darksidebeadle – I very much appreciated your ‘What Films did You Watch Last Week’ threads and am sorry I didn’t keep up with them/continue posting in them, but I admire your dedication to keeping them going. Also, you’re the first person I met on here to know of Footrot Flats (both the movie and the cartoon strip), and I always appreciate other fans of Horse the cat. ant-mac – Your contributions to lots of different threads are most welcome, but especially on the Classic Film board. It’s also nice to meet a someone else from Australia who can get what we’re on about half the time. bravomailer – You too make many great contributions to the Classic Film board (and other boards). You post quite a bit of stuff that I like and I wish I had as vast a knowledge about movies as you. QueenB – I admire your succinct/straight to the point replies that you post in threads. I’ve found myself reading what you’ve posted and thinking to myself, “Yep, I totally agree with that.” and sometimes I wish I could be more to the point and not ramble on so much. I also think your avatar is excellent. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/44y2dvnvd/blush.gif) Aww, thanks. I'm always accused of just sticking to yes or no answers without giving much else as far as detail goes. Or even answering a question with a question. I don't mean to do it or even realize that I do it until someone points it out to me. But I do enjoy your posts as well. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Oh and my avatar is my mom's dog on the left and my dog on the right who has since passed and I still miss her everyday. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) I certainly didn't mean to imply that short posts are in any way a bad thing. I hope that wasn't how what I said came across. I know people would probably prefer it if I was more succinct/got straight to the point, but I tend to ramble a bit. I guess I just type how I talk (more or less). Anyway, thank you for saying you enjoy my posts. I enjoy enjoy yours too (and I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I still miss my previous dogs all the time, although we have a new one. I don't think you ever forget your previous animals, as they mean so much). I wasn't sure if I would post in this thread again, as it seemed as though my saying nice things about people apparently ticked off other people (and possibly even some of the people I said nice things about). I'm sorry if anything I said offended anyone or made anybody uncomfortable in any way. I freely admit that when I've been typing my posts in this thread, I've just typed whatever first came to mind and consequently some stuff that might have sounded fine in my head may have come out the wrong way in typed/text form and been taken out of context. My deepest apologies if this has been the case for anyone. It's only upon re-reading posts of mine that I notice mistakes, typos, etc that I've made (of which there are usually many - hence my editing of my posts). Also, just to reiterate, I haven't been listing name in any sort of order or ranking. So please don't feel left out if I haven't mentioned you, I am just listing names 5 at a time...and there are *many* to list. I think that, including this post, I've mentioned about 50 people so far (if my calculations are correct, that is...though they often aren't). I'm not sure if I should even be posting in this thread anymore if it makes some people upset, but if I don't...then 50 was a good number (and sorry to any I didn't mention thus far). I guess I'll just see.

They're very enjoyable, but I personally refer the RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA series of four novels.
I googled Rendezvous With Rama and the Rama series. From what I've seen these look like really interesting books. I've never read any of Arthur C Clarke's works. But I've read a little of Isaac Asimov's. Thank you for the fine introduction into those books and movies. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/yiysx57rt/smile.gif)

Here is my next 5. lostinlimboWe haven’t talked to each other that many times on this forum but the times we have on the Horror and New and Upcoming sections I enjoyed and I think you are one of the most knowledgeable Horror fans on here and it has been nice meeting another Aussie who is a big fan of the genre especially of some of the smaller franchises like 'Puppet Master', 'Demonic Toys' and 'Subspecies' which a lot of people in our country sadly don't even know exist and I like your avatar and look forward to talking to you more about movies in the future. Hauntedknight87I am surprised nobody has mentioned HauntedKnight87 in this thread yet. Apart from being one of the friendliest members on here you have also been one of the most unbiased on two sections that are known for fighting between DC and Marvel fans and I wish more fans were like you ‘cause at the end of the day we are all comic book fans no matter what company we like the most and it is a win for all of us when even one comic book movie is successful ‘cause it leads to studios adapting more including movies of titles under the smaller companies. I think you have been a good moderator too. FridayOnElmStreetAnother Horror fan who not only has great tastes in movies but in music too and you have an impressive amount of knowledge on the genre and have watched a lot of movies I haven't seen myself and I have enjoyed talking to you on here and reading your posts and I like a lot of the Horror pictures you have been posting on the "Post A Random Photo' thread. I don't know where you find them but some of them are very creative and funny.ellynmacgI appreciate the kind words from before and feel the same about you. We haven't spoke much on here but you have always been very kind when we have and I like your posts. One of the main things I like about this forum compared to the old IMDB Boards is a lot of people are much friendlier here to one another and there isn't so much fighting and cyber bullies who are just going around looking to cause fights with people. anthonyrocksAnthonyRocks you do rock. Don’t let anybody tell you that you don’t. lol You are one of the biggest contributors to this forum and I always like seeing your threads and this forum wouldn’t be the same without you ‘cause you are such a big presence here and one that is very welcoming to those around them.

I have been really busy over the past few days and just haven't had any free time to write on here until now. There are still a number of other members I plan to get to on this thread but for now my next 5 are going to be. I should probably put that^ at the start of each of my posts in this thread - as I too only get the chance to type out posts for this thread every so often and there are still more people I'm yet to mention. You're welcome Chalice and thank you. I appreciate the kind words and have to agree with other members like hardball who have said despite your name you are a very kind and friendly person and your username sounds funny and would suit you better if you called yourself Chalice Of Good 'cause you aren't evil.
I hadn't really taken notice of any 'irony' in my name until it was pointed out to me by yourself and others. The origin of my screen name is as follows... Long answer: My screen name came about due to a misheard quote. I used to watch a show called Just Shoot Me!, but at some point I stopped watching it. One of my friends (who hadn't stopped watching the show) filled me in on what had happened and told me of this piece of dialogue that had supposedly taken place in one of the episodes I’d missed: "We used to be friends, Dennis. Don't you remember when you called me during Buffy? When Angel found the chalice of evil?" From that point on, I got a little obsessed with this "chalice of evil". I'd find ways of working it into things, etc. It was just something silly that I liked the sound of for some reason. Anyway, I eventually ended up seeing a repeat of that episode and it turned out that the thing was in fact not called the "chalice of evil", it was called something else. But since I'd gone all that time thinking it was called the "chalice of evil", I stuck with that. After watching the episode 'Scarecrow' in Season 1 of Supernatural, and seeing Meg's mug o' blood that she was talking into/making a 'phone call' on, I thought "the chalice of evil" would be the perfect name for that. It was after 'Scarecrow' aired here in Australia that I first started posting on the IMDB boards. Short answer: It sounded better than Cup_Of_Badness. Yeah. I have just been so busy lately and haven't really had much time to write on this forum and I was thinking about posting two lots of 5 posters when I was on here last but decided to hold it off. Wow. Thanks for letting me know the origins of your username Chalice. I have always been curious as to where that came from but that is an interesting story how you came to use the name confusing it for another line about Buffy and Angel in an episode of 'Just Shoot Me' and it sounds like you were destined to use the name and one thing you can say about it is it is very original and sounds like it could be the name of a Horror movie. It is also better than your first pick too. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/jjG0zQr6/Pikachu-Normal-Sprite.gif)

You're very welcome, mate.
I've read both the 2001 and RWR book series multiple times... and just mentioning them again puts me in the mood again. Straight after I've finished my current read through of John Garner's 007 novels. I also need to spend more time with Isaac Asimov. And I've also had a hankering recently to investigate HP Lovecraft to a greater degree. So many authors, so little time...

They established an oral agreement, the "Clarke–Asimov Treaty", that when asked who was best, the two would say Clarke was the best science fiction writer and Asimov was the best science writer.
Once again, I never knew the James Bond novels were written by more than one author. I suppose you must have read the Ian Fleming novels too. HP Lovecraft is a familiar name yet I'm unable to name even one book of his. Regardless of the Clarke–Asimov Treaty, their fans might have different opinions. But it's clear that these great writers respected each other. Another thing that I found out from this thread is that there are a number of Australians here. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/kjbgixk49/smile2.gif)

Another thing that I found out from this thread is that there are a number of Australians here. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/kjbgixk49/smile2.gif) Ian Fleming was on the top of his game for all of his full-length James Bond novels, except his last. It was released after his death and you get the impression it isn't quite as polished as the rest. The other authors since have had varying degrees of success, but none of them can compare. And as for Raymond Benson, I won't have anything to do with his work. As for the films, they long ago became a complete joke and have nothing to do with the novels.
![](https://i.imgur.com/HdCUQWP.jpg)
The first novel, CASINO ROYALE, came out in 1953. There were no gadgets and although Bond had already earned his double-zero prefix, he killed no one in that first story. People died, but he didn't kill anyone. He played high-stakes cards and suffered one of the most horrific torture sessions in espionage history.
In the many of the Fleming novels, there were no gadgets. Bond relied on tradecraft and his wits. For example, a hair across a cupboard door, a matchstick stuck into a drawer, talcum power around the locks on his suitcase was how he maintained security in the field. He had very few interactions with M's secretary, however he viewed M as a father figure.
The 00 Section, manned by himself and two others, had it's own secretary, Lola Posenby, followed later by Mary Goodnight. However, Bond's number one treasure was his aged Scottish maid and cook, May. She was a stern, iron-willed woman, who didn't approve of all his gallivanting about the place and fooling about with married women. And he didn't always get the women at the end of the story...
Also, this is pretty close to what James Bond's personal car looked liked in the early novels...
![](https://i.imgur.com/b1HYHoV.jpg)
It was an old car in 1953, but it came equipped with a supercharger. During a car chase, he's lay the windscreen down flat, putting on driving gauntlets and goggles and hang on for dear life. By the end of the chase, his face was often encrusted with dead insects.
Very suave...
