This has never happened to me personally, but I'm curious if this has happened for anyone here.
The two closest for me are Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and It Follows, which I hated the first time but now I think they are okay.

I have had movies I like increase in score here and there but in terms of movies I initially score a 5/10 or less (which is my Thumbs Down ranges) I rarely give another chance.
I am sure there have been occasions where a 5/10 will shift to a 6/10 on the rare occasion I do give a movie another chance. but if I score something a 4/10 or less (which is my below average at best range)... my chances of giving these movies another chance is pretty much next to nothing.
but with that said... even those movies I score say a 5/10 and give another chance, it's usually movies that just happen to come to mind that I have not seen in a long time that I got a slight urge to give another chance thinking it might shift to Thumbs Up range which usually boils down to movies I have not seen in probably 15-20+ years or something like that.
p.s. I think 'hated' is a pretty strong word as if something gets in that range, then naturally, I won't be giving it another chance since ill greatly dislike it. but if by 'hated' you simply mean 'dislike' or Thumbs Down level, then yeah I have given movies in that range another chance once in a great while. but as a general rule for me... anything I score a 6/10 or higher ill re-watch and anything I score a 5/10 or lower I won't re-watch. that determines my basic Thumbs Up vs Thumbs Down on movies in general.

hmm probably Darren Aronofsky's Noah . When I first saw it in theaters , I was taken aback by those stupid rock monster characters lol as well as some of the clunky dialogue and couldn't take the film that seriously . Then I watched it a 2nd time at home and became a pretty big admirer of it . (Biblical films are not really my thing tbh but what Aronosky pulled off here was impressive as hell. Esp the storming of the arc part)

I don't usually feel strongly enough about a movie to "hate" it. There have been a few I didn't like on the first viewing but later changed my mind. Sometimes it just has to do with my false expectations as in a film made from a novel I've read and I expect the film to be just like the novel.
One example is Barfly (1987). At first it was depressing because he's nearly a homeless man whose only interests in life are drinking, fighting, writing poetry and listening to Classical music. But starting with the second viewing, I was desensitized to the shock and it became humorous because he's such a sarcastic smartass. It's possibly Mickey Rourke's greatest performance. Faye Dunaway also delivers.

The English Patient and Ice Age but watched them again because everyone else seemed to love them …. THEY were right ! I must have just not been in the right mood the first time.

Yes. My go to example is The Ninth Gate. There’s a lot of subtlety that I didn’t appreciate in the first viewing. It actually took about 3 viewings for me to say I liked the film. But something kept drawing me back to watching it and I found I liked it more and more each time.
Pulp Fiction is another one. But I think it’s mostly because I was like 10 when I saw it the first time and the whole interweaving storylines that aren’t chronological was something I couldn’t wrap my head around at the time.

Friday the 13th part 6, 7 and 8 - I seriously changed my mind since then. I wasn't always a Friday fan.
Blade Runner and Taxi Driver - Well I didnt hate them really but I was not a fan until I saw them the second time.

Who is that noddy who waffles ad nauseum, yet never answers the question...every flipping time!
Anyway.. interview with the vampire - from contempt to minor admiration. And the Jonathan Demme movie, beloved (1998) - it's like the color purple on bad acid - went from 3/10 to 8/10; which is a rare and inexplicable change of opinion.

Wedding Crashers. I guess cuz it was hyped up to me like it was the funniest movie ever and a lot of times when people do that it makes you just not like a movie when you first see it.

moviemouthIn that case sticking more strictly to that word (i.e. my 1/10's), I damn sure won't be giving those another chance! hell, two out of the four movies or so I gave a 1/10 I pretty much never seen but I just know they will end up on a 1/10 had I seen em. NOTE: my 1/10's basically mean those movies I find worse than boring as boring is generally the worst crime a movie can commit but there are some that go beyond that to more of that hate level. but those level of movies are next to non-existent that I don't really count these in general.

Ang Lee's Lust, Caution
When I first watched it I thought it was painfully slow and I really couldn't get into it, but then I rewatched it years later and since then it has actually become my favourite Ang Lee movie.

I can think of plenty of films that I didn't particularly like the first time around, then came to love them later on. But I can't think of a film I hated outright then eventually liked.

I didn't like The Thin Red Line on first viewing, though I certainly didn't hate it. I liked the cinematography so I watched it again to better appreciate that aspect of the film and came to appreciate several performances (Penn, Koteas, Cusack, Chaplin) and the theme of unity in opposites. However, repeated viewings made me thoroughly dislike Adrien Brody's performance. His character was supposed to be the center of the film but Malick cut him down to a few scenes. Good move.

Napoleon Dynamite comes to mind. It's still not my favorite film or anything but I absolutely thought it was the dumbest movie ever made. I watched it again and I started picking up on the humor they were going for. Now I even like Nacho Libre and Gentleman Bronco too (more Hess films).

I remember it being rumored that Malick was working on a 6 hour cut at one point in time (early 2000's) on the old imdb board. I bet a lot of that footage was of Brody's character. I agree with your assessment about him in that film. I saw this movie at the theater on its first run. I didn't hate it either but I was a little surprised that it wasn't more of an "action" film (I didn't really know anything about the book at the time and just thought it was supposed to be a "pretty" Pacific campaign war movie). It's one of my favorite "modern" World War 2 films now however. Between Caviezel and Nolte especially, it's just well played.

The Chronicles of Riddick has really grown on me over the years. It's hokey, but fun.
