In a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Avatar co-star Sigourney Weaver notes (in response to a question about that Alien sequel directed by Neill Blomkamp that never quite came together) that she has already wrapped work on Avatar 2 and 3 and is already “busy” on Avatar 4 and 5:
We almost started to do it when I was working with James Cameron. But by the time we were put off by Fox, Neill had gotten so many jobs that we’d have to wait probably. I’m busy doing Avatar 4 and 5. I love working with Neill and I think he’d do a terrific job, and James Cameron really thinks it’s a great idea, so you never know. Right now, I think Neill’s got like three projects going at once.

WAIT! So James Cameron was aware of what Neill Blomkamp wanted to do with his " ALIEN" Movie that he was going to make and he liked it ?

Of course you can't really trust a word that comes out of Cameron's mouth after Terminator Genysys, but it stands to reason he would like Blomkamp's pitch considering it would utilize his characters as opposed to killing them off in the opening credits.

Wow, Cameron might actually be more delusional than George Lucas. Tough call on that one, but both are living in their own worlds oblivious to what people want or think about their work.

His last film is the highest grossing film of all time. And his previous one is the second highest grossing film of all time... So I'm not so sure about what people want or think about his work. I've said it before: don't bet against Cameron and his ability to smash box office records and deliver on sequels.

I've always been more looking forward to Avatar sequels than new Star Wars. Disney called my bluff & I'm winning.

I haven't heard anyone talk about Avatar since 2010. It was a fun experience to see onscreen in IMAX 3D, but the characters and story are blah. Here's hoping Cameron can surprise us with sequels and make them more engaging on a character/story level.

Water is his element.

I didn’t like Avatar when it came out, and I still don’t like it.
So, uh, no, now is when I’m going to start worrying…

I think Sigourney either meant 2 and 3 or the Hollywood Reporter quoted her wrongly.
Cameron said if 2 and 3 is not successful enough he wont make 4 and 5.
Which is why there is that 3 year gap if they were to film no.4

James Wan should have taken some lessons from Cameron.
That Aquaman underwater scenes looks incredibly fake!

I'm very much looking forward to Avatar 2 (and probably the other sequels as well if the 2nd one delivers ). I'm a huge Cameron fanboy so I trust that he knows what he's doing .

Yeah that long gap between The Incredible movies really hurt it a the box office riiighttt?

Why are they even filming 5 films back to back? Nobody knows if these films will even be successful anyways. People will likely tire by the third entry or so.
What if it flops like Solo? The studio is taking a big financial risk by doing this.
