The Sigourney Weaver films? Sure. Well, at least the first two. The others are "watch at your own risk" even though they have their fans.

Yes, at least the first two, because they're really good movies.

Anyone who hasn't seen Alien and Aliens shouldn't be allowed to call themselves movie fans.
Same for anyone who hasn't seen Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc.

Halloween is often considered a masterpiece of the genre and is even praised by critics who normally hate those kinds of movies. You can skip the sequels, but I highly recommend the original. I am a bit confused as to why you even asked whether you should watch the Alien movies. Are you unaware of how beloved at least the first 2 movies are? If your are aware, then doesn't that kind of answer your question already? If you are not a movie fan then why are you on imdb 2?

I've never seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I don't care if not seeing it means I'm not a movie fan.

But i can honestly say that i will never watch Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Why Never? I've watched several movies, only because, everyone was talking about them, and I wanted to be able to understand what they were talking about, and to be able to join in on the conversations that they were having... Don't you want to do the same?

I've never seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I don't care if not seeing it means I'm not a movie fan. It's just something that is beyond my comprehension, unless you are still a teenager or something. I certainly won't argue with someone who doesn't like the movie, but it's kind of required viewing for a movie buff imo. I assumed most people around here were movie buffs. I wasn't trying to be rude, I just don't understand why someone would refuse to watch any movie that is considered a classic and one of the best movies of it's genre.

Whether you like them or not, they are all considered classics of their genre and loved by many people. Why someone would avoid them isn't something I am able to fully understand.

Perhaps people know from experience that they don't like movies in that particular genre and have read enough about them and have seen trailers and clips and so they know that they simply do not appeal... classics of their genre or not. I too have never seen, and have no plans to see, any Halloween, Elm Street or Texas Chainsaw ( OR anything by Quentin Tarentino for that matter. )

It should really be more "recommended viewing" than "required viewing". You shouldn't have to watch something just because it's considered a classic of a genre. You should watch something simply out of interest or recommendation. I don't think people want to feel like they're being given orders on what to watch.

The first one is one of the greatest films ever made IMO. The sets, the tension, the atmosphere, the realism... It's all so very, very good.
Aliens, meanwhile, is the Die Hard of 80s sci-fi movies.
Alien 3 and Resurrection are also worth checking out, but they're no masterpieces.

The difference is that I am SUCH a movie fan that I watch movies even if I have a good idea that I won't like them, especially if they are classics. That is why I said, I can't "fully" understand. In fact I almost don't even want to associate with you anymore because you refuse to watch those movies and perhaps because our tastes are so different.

I think it is just it is hard for me to relate to movie fans who don't appreciate films from every decade and from every genre and sub-genre, and I get a certain irrational annoyance at people because of that.
