Who's seen it? What do you think of it?
I saw it on TV when I was 8 years old, the summer Men in Black came out because they had the promos on Sci-Fi channel during the commercial breaks. Even for every single death scene being massively edited for TV, it was still a very scary as hell movie and that night I got up at every sound, thinking the Blob was outside the window or something.
I LOVE the movie, not as great as the original, but still love it, and a very interesting way to update the story from a mysterious alien being in a meteorite, to being a MANMADE alien being in a meteorite.
This movie went THERE, it broke that sacred rule about not killing kids in horror movies...but I got to tell you, even as an 8 year old, Eddie's partially dissolved corpse looked like an old man and wasn't very convincing whatsoever.
I know that Rob Zombie had plans to remake The Blob yet again, I don't know what ever came of it, GLAD it was never made, hope it IS never remade because it will NEVER be done right again.
That said though, who watched it and always hoped there'd be a sequel?

I dig it for its shlocky feel. But it's not one of those movies I feel a need to revist. I'll catch it if it's on or if someone else wants to watch it.
Though I do give it thumbs up for having the guts to kill a kid in a gruesome way.

One of my choices for best remake of all time. It's lots of fun, although I've never been clamoring for a sequel.

It's a super fun horror flick. The whole third act with the blob causing chaos in the town is great. Plus, Shawnee Smith is very tasty.
I'm glad there wasn't a sequel, since the ending works better like that imo.

Someone further up the thread praised it as a remake, and I agree. Anyone who likes 80's horror should check this one out...I consider it a classic. Glad they didn't franchise or sequel it out, but I wouldn't mind seeing what havoc 'the blob' could wreak in modern times. The concept itself is pretty open to interpretation, since the blob is not portrayed to have any traits other than hunger. I'd be into seeing a new telling of "The Blob." No thanks on a direct sequel to either the original or the 80s take...

My reply in the 80s horror thread from last week:
SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Good pick, and a really solid horror movie. One that certainly surprised me several times (in a good way that is) with including things like killing off kids and what in the beginning looked like one of the main characters, who ends up dying in a rather horrible or grotesque way, not much later on. And then of course the special effects still look good, as do the lovely Shawnee Smith.
7,5/10 was my rating a couple of years back, and I still think it lies there. Another positive thing about the film is the great ending song, Brand New Love by the band with the fitting name, Alien:
Sorry about the obviously spoilers!!!! Somehow that function ended up taking away half of my post and I had to write it all over again. Tried again, and it does not work. Instead it just wipes out most of my post.

Talking about horrible killing of kids, how about 1986 Maximum Overdrive where a kid gets runover by a steamroller? That's pretty grisly and before the 1988 Blob movie.

I do like the special effects. But besides that its just meh.
It just doesn't have the charm of the original.

Word around the Campfire is "The Blob" is being remade again starring Samuel L. Jackson. No joke.

This is a perfect example of a good remake, the tone is scarier than the 50's version.
Not sure we need a Rob Zombie remake, I did always wonder why we never got a sequel to the '88 version though.

A very good remake. The original I thought was so-so--they did a good job re-inventing it.
Funny when the guy goes into the pharmacy and frames his friend for the condom purchase-and then when the guy meets her father, she says: "I dont know why he disliked you so much!"
It begs the question--what happened to Chuck Russell?
Eraser wasn't bad either. I liked the Scorpion King too. He's done just about nothing of note since then.

Very good movie.
I always appreciate films with Del Close in them.

Good, fun horror flick. Awesome special effects.YES! Incredibly well made, and damn if it didn't deliver some of the most nasty and painfully evil death scenes as well, I mean some of those are surely right up there among the best of what the 80s had to offer. I really need to have myself a re-watch with this sometimes soon, but may just hold on until summer time begins, as this for me have all the things going for it as a "typical" great late night summer horror film, right up there with the Friday the 13ths films. Very nostalgic and fun filled.
