I guess he's entitled to his opinion. I doubt the guy saying he liked Stan Lee was throwing shade at oxygen or trees.
Wasn't Bill Maher in Iron Man Three?

"I’m not saying we’ve necessarily gotten stupider. The average Joe is smarter in a lot of ways than he was in, say, the 1940s, when a big night out was a Three Stooges short and a Carmen Miranda musical. The problem is, we’re using our smarts on stupid stuff. I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to suggest that Donald Trump could only get elected in a country that thinks comic books are important."
Nice. It's a shoot, brother!
ETA: what did you consider "controversial," @hauntedknight? The stuff about Lee?

This is the type of attitude I was trying to tell people about. Up until say 95ish the vast majority of the mainstream look down on comics and comic book properties . Superman 1,2 and Batman 89 help crack the ice. There is still a shit ton of people out there that have no respect for Comic Books or the movies. (their numbers are shrinking) They barely see the difference between The Dark Knight and Batman and Robin. They would give The Dark Knight a 2 and Batman and Robin a 1. There is more of them out there than you think. Comics and their offshoots have made strides to gain respect in the last 30+ years. That's why I am baffled at the opinion that MCU has caused damage to the Genre.I know people have to say this and act a certain because their loyalties lie elsewhere. I still think they believe what they say, though. Bill Maher's attitude toward Comics (and movies) was most adults from my Dad's Baby Boomer Generation. The older GenX are not much better with their opinions on Comics and Movies. It was the young GenX (70-77) that slowly started to build mainstream acceptance of the art form. Now the X'ers are controlling things. We wanted comic book movies and Hollywood obliged. With all the bickering back and forth about Mountain Troll Doomsday, Martha, Dance off, Turds, Nipples, the Mustache, and sad Batman, I don't think the younger guys here get it, but it's nice to have bad moments in movies. That means there are good moments to compare it to. Most comic book movies, shows, etc were all bad. You'd have to search for the good. I don't think some people get the harshness growing up without comics being mainstream. Only one other kid in a 1400 person high school read comics. I got beaten up my second day as a freshmen because I was reading a comic. I had a D&D nerd bully me because of comics. (we became friends later and he taught me how to play.) My mom through out my collection (she says by mistake) because she hated them. I didn't know one adult that had a positive thing to say about comics. It went Neutral to bad. If the books were held in contempt what do you think the movies were? We are lucky the golden age of comic book movies is upon us. Starting with Blade through X-men and Spiderman amplified by Nolan's trilogy, broadcasted on all channels by the MCU and boosting the signal Wonder Woman resulted in Comics are no longer the badge of shame you wore because you like a art form. The MCU brought the genre to the Masses more than any other series of movies. People scoff at that and say that's what's wrong. MCMARVEL are DUMBING this down for FAIRWEATHER FANS. It sickens me. I see this as the same bigoted attitude that was used on us to bring us down because we liked comics. People were Elitist to us, but now we have Comic Elitist snubbing their noses at people who like, enjoy, and support comic book movies. Being an Elitist and calling the Masses Dumb is the same fucking attitude that a lot of us fought through to get here. Every time I see the Dumb Masses or McMarvel it drives me up the wall. The people that espouse this think they are the "true fan" protecting what's precious. What they really are doing is squeezing the life out of their object of love and trying to kill others love they deem inferior. This toxic horde wants a Bigoted Segregation to feel Self Important that's why they always separate them self as "true fans." They don't see they are doing the same thing that bullies used to do

It's the same snore fest as it was last time. I mean how many hundreds of thousands of hours of research and papers have been dropped into the subject. People have PhD's in the subject and this guy can't look past the drawings as stuff for kids.
In a way or two, he is right. Comics do take complicated moral dilemmas and filter them through a user friendly interface that's colorful and relatable. The problem is all he really does is state the obvious but with a tone that suggests that it's actually a problem. It's not. Art and expression will always be the thorn in the side of oppression and the liberator of imagination, and sometimes he just doesn't get that art is art. It's almost too old school. He's forever calling people pretentious and stuffy, often correctly mind you, but them seems to effortlessly fit the bill himself by doing the last angry dinosaur routine.
When he interviewed Stormy Daniels the other week, he makes the point that he loves strippers, has a regular place he likes to visit in some other state, but also bemoans the direction porn is going pretty much since the internet took over and doesn't understand why Stormy Daniels doesn't do anything better than shaking her tits. Her answer was she loves shaking her tits. How does someone brag about patronizing a strip club and defend porn as an industry from critics (especially religion) but miss the fundamental aspect that someone like Stormy Daniels shakes her tits because she wants to, not because she has to? What is he missing in that equation? He loves strippers but they could all do better?
His particular brand of sarcasm sometimes is just what the doctor ordered, but on occasion he's the most annoying part of his own panel.

They got the backing. Kevin had the script ready. Mosier was going to part time Produce it. They had a crew ready in I think Pittsburgh. Then 2 days before Kevin and Jay were going fly to Pittsburgh Jeff flaked out. And said he didn't want to do it. He had said the same thing about 2 but eventually did it and loved it. Kevin said there are 4 people that have to be in the movie Randall, Dante, Jay and Silent Bob. You can't do it without those 4. Plus since the first 2 Clerks movies was about Dante's Love Life and the 3rd was gong to be about Randall's. Dante has got his shit together. First movie he gets motivation to change his life, but falls back to old habits. He breaks that in 2. Randall came to terms about his shitty life in 1 and but falls back on old habits. The jail scene is when Had his epiphanious moment, but he would've fallen back to old patterns so much it is straining his friendship with Dante who is a father now.

Fair enough Bill. I can do it too. For instance, I don’t think it’s a huge stretch that Trump got elected thanks to people who got sick of people like Maher. It’s more complicated than that but it’s just as absurd and dickish.

I wonder why Jeff pulled out. Maybe he thought the demands of the role would be too much for him? No official reason. I'll try to keep this short. When Clerks went to Sundance. The actors, Dave Klein, Mosier and Kevin work on a deal if they were bought. Nobody was paid for what they did. Miramax bought the film. Kevin gave the contract for who got what. Immedately after Kevin started to Make Mallrats. He wanted Jeff in it, but Jeff refused because Miramax hadn't paid anybody yet. He wanted to but he thought they should get paid for one before you start another. Jeff had to get a lawyer to get Miramax. It was worked out during Chasing Amy. That's why Jeff is in Dogma. You can see Jeff's love hate with acting/movie making. When Kevin asked him to do Clerks 2 he didn't want to dishonor the first one. AFter reading the script he wanted to do it. Kevin asked him to do Zack and Miri make a porno and he had no qualms he jumped into it. I should bring this up on the set of Clerks Jeff and Lisa Spoonauer started dating. She played Catlian Bree. (the girl who fucks the dead guy) I know they were married for 6 years but I don't know how long they were together. I want to say they they divorced during Jay and Bob Strike Back. They were really close after they weren't married. They both were each others best friend but it was like a brother sister thing. Lisa had lots of medical problems Idon't know if it was cancer or not but she had radiation treatments. Kevin is to nice a guy to broadcast it but someone found out that he flipped the bills for her treatment. She died in 2017 about 3 months after they were starting to film. I think Jeff didn't like the script to much. He probably didn't like that he would have to put the whole movie on his shoulders as the stories are going to be about him. Lisa was really sick and was dying while he was going to shoot Clerks. That had to be fucking with him. And if everything goes perfectly he probably would have to hire another lawyer to get his money. He had to do that before so... In January or Febuary the will start filming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. It's about hollywood is rebooting Blunt and Chronic so Jay and Bob have to get to Hollywood to stop it from being made. Kinda meta. What I hope happens is Kevin gets Jeff to do a small bit in Reboot. That way Jeff can see how good doing Clerks 3 would be. Can you tell I'm bit of a fan. I saw Mallrats in theater my freshmen year in college. I was hooked then and there.

It's mine because I fought for it growing up. It now suddenly being for everyone made what I went through meaningless. CBMs was still niche until Avengers. My mom hated anything sci-fi because they all had Darth Vader in it. All of it. Now she'll watch Black Panther.

My sister mentioned this
You all must not watch Real Time much. He REALLY doesn't like comic book movies & has trashed superheroes a few times.
Though, yeah, loves his marijuana. And strippers.
So yeah.
Like all of us, he has his opinions.
He has been cancelled over it before
He has come out against a lot of stuff. Christians. Muslims. Religion in general. Marriage. Children.
June last year bitching about superhero movies. He's getting old & curmudgeony
