There's also THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR. That is usually the one compared to the Matrix.

I like The Matrix better for its ideas and action while I like The Truman Show better for its humor and a more interesting main character. But I prefer Dark City to both.

Artistically, these movies are too different to compare. One’s a dramatic comedy, the other’s an action blockbuster. I really like both, but if I had to say which is better, probably The Matrix.
Can’t say much for the others knowing I haven’t seen any of them.

No mention of EDtv (1999)? That one seemed more like the cinematic doppelganger of 'Truman Show.'

-The Matrix (1999) - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up)
-The Truman Show (1998) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down)
p.s. I think The Truman Show would have been better if they left Andrew Niccol direct it (he was supposed to but I think the studio did not want to take a chance on a rookie director at the time from what I have read) as I tend to like his style as he's got some solid movies (Lord of War(10/10)/Gattaca(8/10)/S1m0ne(8/10)/Good Kill(7/10) etc) in my book.
