Which sequel do you dislike less? One is a painfully unfunny comedy while the other is an often hilarious, yet serious minded, propaganda piece on the dangers of nuclear weapons. I like Superman IV more as the cheap nature lends itself to repeated viewings. If I were to watch Superman III again, I would probably just get bored pretty quick.

Superman IV. At least it tried to be a real movie and re-capture the feel of the first two entries, while Supes III was just a misguided effort all around. IV also gets bonus points, since Lenny Luthor has grown up and will be playing Lex this season on Supergirl.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. The movie had the misfortune of having its production budget cut in half, but it felt like the filmmakers were making a honest effort to capture the feel of the first Superman films although it felt recycled and tired. Superman is at his best when he's diplomatic, and Nuclear Man was a pretty decent villain.

Superman IV. III had contempt for its audience and was the 1980's equivalent of Batman & Robin.

I like III better. III at least had the junkyard fight scene and more importantly it felt like a finished movie, the same cannot be said about IV.

Part III has a few moments I like, especially the junkyard showdown.
I cannot think of a single scene in IV I like, other than to make fun of.

SUPERMAN IV (4/10) has the same tone as the first 2, some of the same themes and even some moments with witty humour. Christopher Reeve was a co-writer and he clearly wanted to fix the mistakes from SUPERMAN III (3/10). Also, NUCLEAR MAN is a worthy adversary.

Superman IV sounds memorably bad but I still hadn't seen it yet. Even as a child, part III was just boring to me.

III
Reeve as Bizarro Superman is excellent. I think the movie gets a worse rap than deserved. C+ IV is completely unacceptable D-

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is "so bad it's good," while Superman III has almost no redeeming qualities. Ross Webster is one of the lamest villains in movie history and Richard Pryor is completely out of place here. And then there is this...

I'm one of the few fans of Superman III - to the point of considering it the last good Superman movie (excluding The Richard Donner Cut of Superman II from consideration for the moment). It's obviously more blatantly and outrageously comedic than its predecessors and lacks their epic scope and feel, but it manages to entertain me nonetheless. I liked the Smallville setting, the supercomputer plot and the third act was a lot of fun. And Richard Pryor was hilarious throughout.
Superman IV rehashes elements from the first 2 movies - and does so badly. The effects are dire, the plot mindless and uninspired and it doesn't even succeed in making me laugh. T'was a shame to see Hackman's Lex Luthor wasted on this mess. Probably my second least favourite superhero movie of all time and the only one of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies that I don't like.

As Movieman well said, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is "so bad it's good,"
Superman III is "so bad it´s terrible"
After Superman and Superman II (both masterpieces IMO), we get this:
It´s shocking...

Yeah the opening credits to III are pretty terrible. Who the hell would rather see a bunch of people walking around than the epic space credits from the first 2 movies with the iconic score?
