I said I would survive. I know how to run. How's the guy with the knife gonna kill you if you always stay a hundred feet ahead of him? Also I know where the police station is.
...but then there's these guys...
....But unless I face these two, I should be okay running my ass off! No way you would survive Mister! There is no way in seven hells of Sundays that you are a virgin. You would be the first to be offed for being the filthiest bugger in the movie.
Oh1 That was a thing? Then, yeah, I'm dead meat.
But wait, ho's die a lot in horror movies...

I guess that was pretty gross. Missing half your brain and all.Colt was pretty sexy, certainly I liked him more (physically and personality wise) than Mr. Douglas Breen from "The Fan", who may have been cute but was just super snobby and effete. His crush on Lauren Bacall seemed suspicious and more than a little ridiculous. What would it have been like in bed with Douglas Breen? Very boring and somewhat strange and offputting would be my guess. What about the boy killer from "Prom Night"? He was cute and sympathetic. Yeah, that would be taking advantage of someone with a disability.
I didn't mind Douglas Breen's effete manner in The Fan. It wasn't flamboyant, just an obsession he had with a female movie star which he took to the ninth degree. The film was confused regarding Douglas's sexuality, it didn't seem to quite want to go there, announcing that the psycho antagonist was gay. He would pretend to be gay only in one sequence, to suit his agenda. Dressed To Kill had similar confusions. Transexuality was a large aspect of its theme, but it only referred to these men wanting to be women, as being devout heterosexual. And we don't use Transexual any more, but Transgender. It was so weird, it was confusing. And I don't know what Miss Bacall's thoughts about herself would have been - what me in bed with this cute. but psycho kid with a grandma complex? - It wasn't exactly the most flattering setup. And she might have even thought - this kid wants to be me! Can you imagine? How insulting! He's not attracted to her, he's attracted to her vanity mirror! That's interesting, btw, because I showed my friend "Dressed to Kill" tonight. I was all riveted up for the elevator scene, and I still think it was maybe DePalma's best single sequence, the close-up of Nancy Allen's face when she sees super creepy "Bobbie" in the rear view mirror and that weird, unsettling thing the soundtrack is making, just gearing up for a really intense scene, and my friend's first reaction was "this is total 80s style porn!" which was hilarious because (as he had never even heard of this movie and is a good ten years younger than me) he was absolutely right. De Palma did have that pervy voyeur thing down pat. Anyway, I was horrified by Angie's demise in the elevator, whereas my friend said the blood looked like nail polish. He thought it was cheesy.... Sigh.... Can't win for losing around here. No, Douglas Breen wasn't flamboyant, I just knew that I liked his female co-worker who was trying to be friendly with him, which I always think it's nice when you have friendly co-workers, and then he just dismissed her. He just wasn't very likeable. At least Colt tried a couple of times to rise to the occasion of giving a semi-friendly snort. But, with Doug Breen, it would something like me if I'd had my high school locker lined with color pictures of Carmen Miranda. He had no humor. But for me, that movie's all about Maureen Stapleton, anyway. She's just so darn warm and cozy and down to earth. It is impossible to not like Belle. This is the movie they should have given her the Oscar for, not "Reds"...

The paragraph you have written about your friends critique of DTK would be ideal to discuss there. I will refrain from putting in my 2 cents worth about DTK at this stage.
With The Fan, one of the main themes of the film is the narcissism\vanity that is apparent in both Douglas's and Sally's characters, but to differing degrees. Psychopath's are narcissists, whereas not all narcissists are psychopaths. Breen and Ross were at opposite ends of the scale, in the sense that Ross had the opportunities that Breen was denied, plus he was deluded. He had no talent. He was attracted to her vanity and that is a great point you have brought up. If you look at it from that aspect, then Breen's sexuality is a moot point. It was never really meant to be sexual with him, just envy of what Ross represented and was afforded in her life. And by his psychotic and stalking behavior, he ironically turned Sally into a killer as well, even if it was his own demise at her hands. It is actually a very dark and disturbing film and does have that brooding and gritty early 80's feel about it.
You have just made The Fan appear to be a better film than what it really deserves to be. Now, Breen and Colt really did need to hook up, physically, that would have made a hot and delectable pairing. That said though, the prissy Breen would have likely s<>t his pants, being anywhere near Colts presence.
Yes, Stapleton is excellent and the The Fan and Reds being released in 81', both character surnames of Belle and Emma were Goldman. She deserved an Oscar for at least one of them. Well in Reds, her role is quite diminutive considering the massive runtime, but she makes her presence known and I hardly think the Academy was going to award a film about show business that took a dark and nasty approach to celebrity status and obsession.
Breen and Colt hooking up... It's difficult and kinda hot to imagine it. There was one scene in VH where the blonde girl who goes home with Colt says "Wow, you'd like the whole damn world to yourself, wouldn't you?" and he actually smiles (a real smile) and says "Yeah, I think I'd kinda like that." His reaction got a smile out of me, because it was unexpected and kind of cute (given that Colt is a violent killer) and gives him the edge in likeability over DB. I can't imagine Colt fawning over Breen, and I'm not sure that Breen would think Colt would be up to his "superior" standards. But if they actually DID get together, it could be very hot, indeed. I will defintiely have to check out your DTK vs BD thread, Mr. Toasty. I like both movies so much. So I will wait to say whatever I have to say over on your thread. I knew that Stapleton played a character named Emma Goldman in "Reds" (which I've never seen, the whole affair looks like pretty dry toast to me) and of course I've seen "The Fan" 20 times, but I never would have made that connection between the two characters' surnames. Nice catch.

I would be the one murdered in the shower what makes you say that? It just sounds the most likely because that's the only occasion I would be alone and most vulnerable. I wouldn't just wander off in the middle of a forest or whatever because I'm not stupid, but I'm still female and physically weak which makes me an easy victim. I always thought it would sound fun to be in a scary movie because you get to run around and scream as loud as you can lol.

I would be the one murdered in the shower The shower in horror, can be symbolic of the washing away of ones sins, as in Psycho. What have you been up to Monicah? I actually never saw that reference before.. lol. That's interesting. 😂 But I'm innocent I swear lmao

Don't you dare say that. Brain over Brawn can in many cases be so much more powerful. I dont know if im really that intelligent though -.-

I voted for survive. If I knew I was inside a horror movie and if luckily I've seen the movie, I would survive, because I would have an escape plan. But if it's a movie I know nothing about or if it's something like Cube where you're trapped and it's unpredictable, then I'm surely done for.

I wouldn't be in a Horror movie. I would do what Robert Englund did in 'New Nightmare' when he found out Freddy had found a way to come into the real world and leave town.

I would do what Robert Englund did in 'New Nightmare' when he found out Freddy had found a way to come into the real world and leave town. and we would watch you run into the demon/murderer/giant killing wombat on your way out of town. thats the point. there is NO ESCAPE. Unless you mean you would survive…because you would outsmart or overpower the demon/murdered /giant killing wombat?

I would be one of the first to go. I'd attempt to commit one of the deadly sins of horror films and be the dude that tries to set up a threesome with a couple of randy co-eds. Boom, dead!
